r0eladn
Is it illegal to import a game like V from the US for example?Cause if its not, i dont see a problem. Technically, if a game is refused classification and is therefore banned it is illegal to own a copy of the game, whether it be physical or downloaded in the country. Hmm..could be problematic. "I got 99 problems but a game aint one, if your having game problems i feel bad for you son." No seriously, pretty messed up. We'll just have to wait and see. We can't actually get it from anywhere other than the UK and NZ, as those are the only other places that use PAL (other than a few smaller places in Europe i believe). Since Australia is inhabited by people with criminal genes, since in the past all the criminals were sent to Australia, maybe its a good idea to ban every videogame that could give them ideas. Adriaan
Doesn't matter, live in Europe, NOT in Germany, thankfully That's what you think. Maybe they now have to figure out cuts to the game just for Australia, which require development and publishing resources. Everytime they are spending their time and effort on just this, it is taken away from what they would have been doing otherwise - thus affecting the final outcome of the game for EVERYONE. Romans Cousin Niko
Why is the Australian government so pissy about these games??? Then again I guess that in a country that is so far away from other countries it is easier to enforce banning since I've heard all about border control in Australia. Then again 'again', I'm sure that if you're determined to play V then you will somehow.
Lock n' Stock
It won't be banned. Only the most explicit games (e.g Manhunt 2 in the UK) will get banned, which won't happen as much now that the R18+ rating will be used.

Yes but the R18+ rating has only been re-introduced this year for video games, before it any games that were deemed to be that violent that they were given an R rating would be banned instantly. But the thing is, the new ratings for what is rated R and RC (refused classification, banned) are much too strict. If you read the first post in this thread you'll find that any game that now contains illicit drug use for a reward will be RC, therefore banned and illegal to own. Tense
They won't RC for GTA. Even under our current soft arse system, only the most abhorrent games are banned. With the increase to 18+, there'll be more leniency even for those games. I don't ever recall earning anything for puffing a blunt in GTA, or using drugs at all for that matter (other than drinking in IV). Sure, others characters do, but that has nothing to do with the gamer. I don't think that's Rockstar's style. In any event, its cheaper to order it from the US anyway. Wjlld
Game classification and price, compulsory bicycle helmet laws, alcohol and tobacco legislation, horrible public transport fare issues (Melbourne) and passenger restrictions for P plate drivers (1st year license). Nanny's lost her marbles and putting the smack down. All of those things are the way they are for very good reasons, bar game classification. (I can't comment on Melbourne transport issues). Chances are if GTA V is said to cross the boundaries of the classification, the game would be edited like GTA 4 was because it would be lost sales for Rockstar. I'm just saying we do have a bit of a nanny state. As for alcohol and tobacco legislation, I may have been a bit vague. I support regulation of course but just look at Alco-Pop tax and plain packaging of cigarettes, it's just a little bit of tax grab and cut down of personal choice. The compulsory helmets law is just absurd. The safety of bicyclist depends on his experience and route taken. It led to the Melbourne bike hire service flopping because you had to buy your own helmet. (facepalm). Just look at international helmet laws. In my opinion people should be allowed to do whatever they want as login as their not endangering anyone else's lives, this includes smoking, wearing a helmet and wearing seatbelts. 1. Smoking - should not be allowed in public areas, but although I would never smoke because it is stupid people should still have free will about what they do. 2. Wearing a bike helmet - I don't think should be compulsory, they're only endangering their lives and if they're stupid enough to ride without one then it's their fault. 3. Wearing a seatbelt - again, although I would always wear a seatbelt I don't think it should be compulsory becasue people should have free willФиС gain it is their fault if they fall adm die. If this nanny star leads to video games, which it inevitably will, we're just going to turn into another crappy country to add to the list. The government have no right to censor what we can and can't watch, and they must be pretty stupid to think that because of illicit drug use with a reward were going to go on stupid drunken rampages and blast everything in our sights. @finn - I honestly don't give a sh*t where he's from. Man, that guy must have some nerve coming here to the forums making jokes and stuff, like wow, i mean, what kind of arsehole makes jokes? Better yet, what kind of arsehole can't take a joke even after being told it is one? I'm sorry to be so rude, but you are acting like an asshole romping around the forums insulting people over jokes, seems slightly hypocritical to me. Anyway back on topic. You've hit the nail on the head. Well you are right, it's their own stupid fault if they choose not to do these things, but the funny thing is that even if it is entirely their own fault the government still has to pay for it and is expected to, a doctor can't refuse a patient because it was their own fault they now have severe injuries from not wearing a seatbelt, they still have to treat them and the government still has to pay. All those rules are in place to reduce cost for the government and they are enforcible so some revenue comes off the side too. You live in the governments country which was built by them and you expect its services, therefore you abide by whatever rules are set in place. omggtav
wow what a sh*tstorm in a tea cup. After actually reading the guidelines the only way GTA V will be banned is if the have porn, torture, rape, beastiality, a how to guide to doing drugs etc. When they refer to drug use for reward they mean, "shoot this heroin up to complete the mission." When has this ever happened in GTA? Chill the fark out.
