SMG
Guidelines for the R18+ classification for computer games have finally been released, nearly four months before the classification comes into effect 1 January, 2013. Games will receive an RC rating if they contain illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards; detailed instruction or promotion in matters of crime or violence; or the promotion or provision of instruction in paedophile activity, amongst other criteria. http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/43...lines_released/ So even though the highest rating available for games is being increased from MA15+ (15 years or older) to R18+ (18 years or old, the legal age of majority to be considered an adult), an adult, apparently, is not capable of dealing with the issues of illicit activities in a video game. Past GTA games have had plenty of these themes mentioned (Not sure if in game jokes would be classified as Paedophilia) and this was fine for 15 year olds to play. Only hope is if GTA V is rated/released before this comes into affect on 1/1/2013 otherwise it is going to be so crippled (particularly relating to crime or violence) that it would be unplayable. It is a shame that the black market will be the only option for GTA fans and local retailers are going to suffer as GTA is usually the #1 game seller, and at a time that the government is saying that local retailers are hurting hard due to online sales that use grey imports so they want to tax us more to protect them. SMG
A RC rating means that it is "Refused Classification" and illegal to sell in Australia if it has not been rated. Be careful what you wish for gamers.
Pyrrhic
If it is f*cking banned over here I will officially be the most pissed off person on GTAF. It is utter bullsh*t if it is and I will f*ck the government's brains out if they do. Either way I'm blaming it on Julia.
Verdant
I pray that it doesn't. Australia is starting to hit rock bottom on video games. There are going to bring in Rated R games, but I don't see the point in banning GTA V. Rated R games will be more of the impact on banning games. John The Grudge
It seems to me that they simply refuse to accept that a game can be made for adults only. Obviously an adult can not be driven to commit crime by playing a game. At least not a mentally well adult. Nor are their morals tainted by playing violent games. So it's clear to me that such harsh measures are designed with children in mind. It's a little like banning cars because it's dangerous when children drive them. Really there's no way to justify these measures in a logical manner. Simply put, it's stupid. These measures are designed by individuals with no understanding of the gaming industry or the games themselves. They're decisions are based on their baseless, totally subjective opinions and dubious, if any, research.
r0eladn
I think its a good thing if V gets banned somewhere. That shows only that the game is bad ass. Too bad for the people in that country though.

I suspect this is all happening because the authority on this matter happens be a bunch of old, dense and smelly fuddy duddies, enforcing their own personal views on everybody. Well then they better ban it in some hole like Sierra Leone I doubt that there's even a GTA copy there. @John the Grudge - I absolutely agree, all the people on the board are a bunch of Jack Thompsons. I think there should be at least 3 people under 30 for it to work properly, as they're the people who know what they're talking about.
Doland J. Trump
This government is really starting to pi** me off but I don't think V will be banned if IV wasn't banned...it wouldn't make sense.
SMG
I think its a good thing if V gets banned somewhere. That shows only that the game is bad ass. Too bad for the people in that country though. No it doesn't mean that the game is bad ass, it means the country it gets banned in is backwards. There will be hundreds of titled banned under this criteria so it does not make GTA V special. If GTA IV and prior were to be re-rated, they would also be banned. It is like saying that a book is bad ass because it is banned in North Korea, which it isn't, because practically everything is banned in North Korea. Not to mention that I don't want to be treated as a criminal if I am caught with a copy of GTA in my possession. then download it We shouldn't have to pirate the game if we feel that developers deserve to the compensated for their work. I would rather grey import than pirate. Legit download-only platforms like Steam would probably be forced to block Australians from purchasing to comply with the laws. Some of us also prefer not to screw our local retailers which in turn is screwing ourselves when there are less jobs. It is actually likely to be more crime from less jobs than to be more crime from any effects of adult video games. It is actually a fact that crime goes up as unemployment increases, but there are no facts that adult video games cause crimes. Actually it would make sense, as there was no R18+ rating at the time of GTA IV 's release.

jamieleng
That's what happens when you go to war with the 'Mighty America'. Aus-US War. For such a seemingly relaxed & easy going people who suffered subjugation at the hands of the colonial authorities, your lawmakers can be pretty uptight. I mean I constantly read posts here about how expensive the games are in Australia. Well generally for games i love i want them on release day rather than sitting around having the game spoiled for me in the two weeks i wait for the game to arrive. Also the fact that they have penalties for importing games that are banned. Also think of the inconvenience if you're a PC player, you can't use steam so you either pirate it or get f*cked around with GFWL.

SMG
Wouldn't that cost you less anyways? I mean I constantly read posts here about how expensive the games are in Australia. Some people would rather spend the extra money to support the local economy. If everyone grey imports, local stores will go out of business. If local stores go out of business, and there are no local jobs around because of this, what will the ex-staff do to keep food on their plate? Mooch of welfare benefits that everyone else has to pay for while they are not working? turn to crime? What will the student who is 15 years and 9 months do if they can't get part time work? turn to drugs instead of building a work ethic? I grey import when the local market fails, but if I had a choice between spending $50 locally or $50 overseas, I would pick local to keep the economy in order. r0ck3t0wn3r
Hey look, If it gets banned I will just be buying it from oversea's which will be better than spending $120 on the standard edition of one f*cking game!

junkpile
I got a question, what if the game gets banned in whatever country, f.e. australia... is it impossible to import it via ebay, amazon etc? Finn 7 five 11
What about digital downloads on consoles too? Well guess that's out the window as well. PS3 is region free yes, the 360 however is not. Fortunately UK has the same region code as 360 and there is a shop tailored to selling games to Australia for less from the UK for both ps3 and 360, so if anyone needs a reputable place here it is. - http://www.ozgameshop.com/ DLC works fine as i have some games from there that i didn't want on release date or as a download, but i hear some games DLC doesn't function properly when bought from overseas. I should also add that shipping is usually in excess of two weeks.
r0ck3t0wn3r
And sometimes in the case of the newest Mortal Kombat, They are actually illegal to import and they will be confiscated, but it's mostly for retailers who try to sell it, So to get Mortal Kombat I just Waited for it to come on US PSN and then I bought it on my US account. I ordered RDR GOTY edition from Zavvi UK & it took 5 days to arrive. In my tiny country it took an online retailer 5 days to get a small product to me? EBay sellers live & die by repeat business & good feedback, so you're likely to get a better service.
