I am calm, too by the way and was just responding to what you posted and the other responses (like the one you quoted) was to other people that responded to me (guy that called mafia members "fags"). And it sounds like I have hit a nerve with you based on my views on this so best to end this right here.

 

Apologies if the way I voice myself made me sound like a social worker there. I am studying law so I guess that's just how I am used to expressing myself. Honestly am not trying to offend anyone right now but I seem to manage it anyways.

But I will admit, I really don't understand guys on this forum who really think that Mafia is "more civilized and nicer" than street gangs, and they come up with the most bullsh*t reasoning, it does get up my nose at times. I feel that way, because some people need to understand that organized crime is what it is, there is nothing 'nice' or 'civilized' about it, whether it's street gangs or the Mafia.

Although I prefer the mafia theme the gangsta theme isn't so bad when it's done right. Infact one of the locations I was hoping for was LS set during the early/mid 80s when gang activity was in its prime.

 

I think SA was done pretty good for the most part, but because the game was so spread out it didn't feel like the theme was done to its full potential.

 

Even in GTA IV I enjoyed the PBX/Dwayne strand as it was a bit of a break from the primarily Eastern European theme of the game.

I also heard on the radio the explanation of why gangsta homies wear their pants down to their ankles. Where it got started, and this was from an expert on the topic. It originated in prisons. When a gay inmate was ready to take it in the ass, he would wear his pants low to signal other inmates. Think about that one next time one of you wants to show your underwear to the world.

Good theory, I also heard it originated from large hand-me-down clothes from older brothers. This indicated the wearer had a much bigger and stronger sibling, warning others not to f--k with him.

 

The gangsta angle is tough to do as since the mid 90's it's was brought to mainstream conciseness, distorted and exploited.

In contrast a whole generation of middle class teenagers didn't grow up emulating Tony Soprano or Tony Montana, so the Mafia theme retains some integrity.

Mexican drug cartels on the other hand would be extremely fresh and intriguing.

Although I know Rockstar will do it well, I don't like modern day G's. Well, 1992 for LA/Los Santos was when parents went mental over explicit lyrics, gangsta rap was at its peak and still relativly new, if you count Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five's 'The Message' as the first popular reality rap/gangsta track rapping about poverty and street crime. This all suited Rockstar setting their game (San Andreas) in a city where the world watched as these things took over the world. It made sense.

 

LA/V is modern day so they will take on modern day themes. World economy crisis. People being made and broken in the modern day world.

 

If it was set in 1991 or whatever, then yes. I still want to see them but not as the main theme. Unless it was set in the right time line.

The "gangsta" theme was fun (a bit) in SA. But the reason people like SA is due to its replay value. I don't want gangsta nor mafia. It is becoming too common. But I'm no expert at the matter at hand. So, I wouldn't mind the gangsta stuff. I know R* is working hard on it.

This way you could easily explain the ability to fly planes, helicopters, drive tanks and know how to kill a person, hand to hand and with a weapon. Something like a guy like Casear out of San Andreas, but not part of any gang or crime group. However he would have dealings and run-ins with both street gangs and Mexican drug cartels, and have the opportunity to build up his own gang and criminal empire. For those wanting ex-military, he could even have once been in the Army for short while to get away from a life of crime, and returned to LS with nothing there for him, and he falls back into a life of crime.
