Do you talk to yourself?

Yes, I monologue every second of my life in a film-noir-esque manner.

I talk to myself all the time. Small talk, concerns, full length conversations and even arguments.

This just reminded me of this family guy clip, imagine narrating yourself.

I talk to myself all the time.

Although it isn't when it's infront of people. The conversations with myself have no awkward moments I guess..

I used to...Until people around me thought I'm kind of weird or something...Except for people close to me of course...

It's not weird, to talk to yourself; it's very common. Let people say what they want you do what you do.

I tend to do this in English (hence it not being my native language). I guess I figure that's a good way of maintaining my pronouncation since I hardly get to speak English here in Finland.

  • 5 years later...

This thread is old as sh*t. But I do have something to contribute, mods ( and snitches). Done some research about bumping old topics, many have said if you contribute cool, a lot of mixed stuff, so if this is locked, so be it.

I've always been an avid talker amongst myself. Everyone has done it at one point, but it became really prominent in my teenage years, as I entered the world of writing. A little back story, I'm not your typical writer, I don't do it for the feelings, and pouring my heart on to a little piece of f*cking paper. I do it because my imagination knows no limits, and there are times where I can't handle such a wide universe up there. Sometimes I do it just because I want to be somebody else. I want to be in someone else's world, seeing through someone else's eyes, and talking to myself accomplishes just that.

There's talking to myself, and then there's talking to myself in character. When I did/do talk to myself, as myself, sometimes people come into my room to investigate to see who I'm talking to. I never considered it weird, some people just entertain themselves when all else fails. But then I get random with it. I would ask myself questions, or say things, and argue with myself in another voice. Lol, as crazy as that sounds, it is what it is, your boy is a nutjob.

Then when I talk to myself in character, as many as two or three people at a time, that's where it gets interesting cause I gotta remember the different personalities, thoughts, and characteristics. One has black humor, jokingly taunts others, and has no regard for morality, and hates being around people, a real lone wolf. The other is optimistic, empathic, and seeks the good of things, and all in all just enjoys being alive with friends.

Really, it just opens up a sort of, freedom I think. I keep most of what I think about locked away, always been the quiet kid in class, but that was because I was always day dreaming. It was a major change because I used to be a super bad kid, with a bad mouth, and beat anyone up who f*cked with me.

So when I transitioned to the good kid, with the more quiet demeanor and whatnot, that's when the talking to myself became more prominent. It was still there, the bad kid I mean. You'd only see it if you really f*cked with me, if you didn't, I can be nice as you are. In reality I'm somewhat of a humble beast.

I had actually went from an extrovert to an introvert, before high school. So being able to change like that, between good and bad, between extrovert and introvert, has given me the diversity and creativity I needed.

And that's why I talk to myself. That's Alexander in a nutshell. I can get sentimental with this stuff, so I'll stop now.

No. But I've been told plenty of times that I do in my sleep.

Gremlin Sombra

I use to talk to myself excessively when i was a lot younger. Thankfully, I lost the habbit of doing it so much now.

In most cases these days I'll do it to help amuse myself when bored or at work.

Yes - all the time.

Helps to clear out my thoughts and I like to self motivate myself with positive self talk.

Wouldn't hurt for more people to try it out.

I've been talking to myself since I was a little kid. I mostly do it as a means to think through a problem or argument. Usually I frame it as if I'm speaking to some omnipresent ear; as if someone else is in the room whose sole purpose is to listen to me speak my mind (sounds a bit narcissistic now that I think about it!). I don't consider the omnipresent ear like an imaginary friend because I don't talk to myself to feel less lonely. It's mostly an outlet for my thoughts, if that makes sense.

I mumble stuff to myself often (although not in public), and if no one is home I'll randomly blurt out stupid sh*t that pops in my head. Things like stupid one liners, trying different accents, etc. I don't know what's wrong with me either.

all the time. whenever my mom and I are out shopping, I ask her something but she walks off to look at other sh*t then I'm left answering my own questions.

Do I speak to myself a lot? I probably talk to myself more than actual people. I rarely talk with other people. I'm usually worried I'll say the wrong thing or screw up since I think faster than I talk. But at the same time I have all these things I want to say, so that's where myself comes in.

Talking to myself, it's like having someone you can always talk to and understands everything you say without misunderstandings. I treat myself and my "subconscious self" as two separate individuals and I have entire discussions with myself. A bit schizophrenic I guess.
