AI intelligence needs a serious change

It was done that way for a reason.

The reason I say this is if you play the last few vigilante missions and tbogt drug wars 50 and up you will see the true potential of the ai and it's pretty challenging. They actually throw grenades in gun fights, during car chases they blow your car up in under 30 seconds if you don't out maneuver them and one time during a hijack mission there were seriously like 10 helicopters chasing me landing a sh*tload of hits on my helicopter.

What I'm trying to say is they had the power to make the AI alot harder but they chose not to since some of the changes you suggested would make the game too damn hard for the average player.

It's not their raw weapon power, accuracy, or potency in numbers, it's the strategy and behavior we're complaining about. Such as using efficient cover, flanking the protagonist and other quirks that make them seem to be more human. Rarely do you see perimeters being set up. Quite often cops will rush down a hallway and take a shotgun to the face. Hole up in Schottler Medical for a few minutes and it all becomes apparent.

TL;DR: Cops are accurate, but stupid, when it comes to IV.

It's much more difficult to program intelligent AI for an open world game as opposed to linear games like Max Payne 3 or Uncharted which people keep bringing up.

I had the cops use the Buzzard weapons against me several times on higher star level (5 - 6). Maybe you guys need to f*ck some more sh*t up in LC?

I don't think we're talking about TBoGT here.

But TBoGT is an expansion of IV, its still GTA IV just with additional features and tweaks. Its the latest version of IV, why would we dismiss it?

Algonquin Assassin

Im bloody sick of the pedestrains runing and screaming in fear over the slightest things

"Oh no they done killed another truth seeker" No, you twat, actually I just pulled up to the curb and parked.

Yeah, but that line belongs to a hobo and they're meant to sound crazy and flip out over the slightest thing.

Actually I think it's hilarious how peds exaggerate over the slightest thing. It would be boring if they behaved like rational human beings all the time.

It was good what Ubisoft did in FarCry 2, the captain what command his squadron and tell one or two soldiers to get on a mounted gun.

I liked it and there was allot of other good features on FarCry 2's AI

AI has never been that great in any games, it's a very very difficult thing to program, AI is gradually improving with every game, only time will allow it to improve further, each GTA will be a step-up.

It kinda pisses me off too buy I just shout at them and proceed to run them over or shoot them. That's what pedestrian's are for in a GTA game tounge.gif

At least they don't jump right under your car when you are driving along the road.

As they did ALOT in Vice City. Can't remember that beeing an issue in SA anymore.

Yeah Miami I agree with that. Plus you actually do get crazy people like that in New York City in real-life.

Like others have already said...

The AI in linear, scripted games like MP3 is a lot easier to control for obvious reasons.

Open world games like RDR and GTA require a more general approach because of the infinite amount of scenarios a player might find themselves in AND because it is supposed to represent randomness that you find in real life if you just take a walk outside your front door, for example. As far as combat AI, as others have said, play the Drug Wars and Gang Wars in TBOGT and LATD. This is the true potential of the AI and that was still four years ago. However, again, the point is the average player would find this level of accuracy and tactics frustrating if that was the default level of AI and it only got harder from there.

The one thing I agree 110% on is the traffic AI.

Cabs that crash into things and purposefully SLAM INTO YOU is just old hat and needs to go.

I have a feeling R* put this function into the game because they thought it was "funny" and that the target audience... teens... Would find it hilarious, too. sigh.gif

It's not so funny when you are doing the Stevie side-missions where you hunt down cars and return them to his lockup and the car has to be in 100% condition to get full price. You might as well schedule a mandatory trip to a Pay 'N Spray since there is no way you are going to get across the maps without even a minor scratch that detracts from the amount you are paid upon delivery. Grrr...

Max Payne 3's AI was perfect. So natural and fresh each time I play a level. Would be nice to see something close for GTA V.

The AI in Max Payne 3 is REALLY clever. Enemies are often coming up from behind or flanking you when you are taking cover or focusing on another target. I hope they make the GTA V AI just as smart.

If R* doesn't change the traffic AI, I'll be very dissapointed.

In IV it's like you're not even there, cars will just swerve around you at a red light of crash into you. And the Bridges? f*cking suicide!

Bridges are annoying, they always switch lane for no reason when you are over taking them

Does anyone remember the Motorway in Las Venturas on SA? I used to call it, Chaos road.

I used to just sit there sometimes watching accidents happen, then a car would explode, then they all would explode.

I will also be disappointed, its sad that they are using the same AI from the III era

Yeah, and in front of the first Algonquin safe house (the one you get before killing playboy x, the one That Roman bought), that road is totally chaotic, every time I jump in there, there's at least 1 NPC dead inside of its car, A LOT of NPCs crash in there.

I'm sure a few people have already said this but this title is pure Department of Redundancy Department.

Anyway, RDR or Max Payne fighting AI would be cool. TLOU has some very impressive stuff but I don't expect that from GTA yet, especially since that AI is more geared towards melee than gunfights.

Traffic AI, however, needs a MAJOR overhaul. It was terrible in IV, people randomly switched lanes on bridges and highways, went 35 mph on the Alderney freeway, and rammed into the back of your car if you stopped at a red light. Mafia II had pretty good AI, the cars even recognized if you were stopped at a light and didn't get pissed at you about it, but started honking at you as soon as it turned green. But the accident avoidance was lousy and the people never gave a sh*t if you were trying to pull out of a driveway or parking space. Improve those problems and it'll be pretty cool.

Have you been on TV Tropes as well?

I seriously agree with you about the awful traffic AI (wrecked so many cars on the highways).
