I mean honestly what will I lose? The day I get this game doesn't even seem like it'll ever exist, it's like this game is one of those Machinima movies that were supposed to have a sequel but it never happened and never will.

A pretty silly what if. GTA is R*'s and Take-Two's bag of money. I think the plug would have to be pulled on both companies for this scenario to play out.

It's not gonna happen. GTA:V won't get cancelled. At least, not in the way you might think. GTA is a major I.P. for Rockstar and it isn't about to die and I'm going to explain why.

 

If it were a new and far too ambitious a game that was unestablished, nowhere close to release and was soaking up money with no end in sight, then if the company was in trouble, cancelling such a project to concentrate on titles they were better able to deliver might be something that could happen. But GTA is not in that position. In fact, if anything, it's other less established projects that are likely to be cancelled in favour of GTA.

 

So what if Rockstar and Take Two were to run into bother? Because even if Rockstar and Take Two were to collapse and the administrators brought in, then the chances are that someone like EA would come in and try to buy Take Two and/or Rockstar on the cheap. Even if that didn't happen, GTA is still a major I.P. worth a significant amount of money, so if the company was broken up and it's assets sold, GTA and all the materials of GTA:V thus far would be one of the most valuable commodities that could be sold.

 

So GTA:V won't be cancelled. GTA won't die. Because even if it wasn't under the Rockstar banner any more, it would still continue.

 

Now there. Is that hypothetical enough for you?

Here's a fun fact. There is a GTA game that WAS cancelled. Grand Theft Auto 64, from the sounds of it, was meant to be a port of the original GTA game to the Nintendo 64. However, R* scrapped production and cancelled that title.

What? That's the first time that I can't agree a bit with you, dude. The Grand Theft Auto series is Rockstars biggest cash cow and the series is big enough that Rockstar could cancel all game series expect GTA. Agent for example was a different story because it was a new IP. Even there it isn't sure if it's cancelled because there were tons of rumours that this game is a PS4 exclusive now. Anyway I think it's nearly impossible that GTA V will be cancelled because we have a trailer, 12 screenshots, some other type of info and more will come soon.It's possible that the game will be delayed to FY'14 but cancelled? It's very unlikely, don't you think?

 

This topic and the poll are just stupid in my opinion. I think there is absolutely no way that GTA V will be cancelled. Just because Rockstar don't spoil the sh*t out of the game, people think the game must be automatically cancelled.

Companies have went bankrupt in the middle of making a game before, and everything got cancelled, but I don't see it happening to R*, not right now anyways. But if it DID happen, it would just be sad---kinda like a close friend dying. Then what would we play?? I can't believe that noone else has stepped up and created a game equal to GTA---to atleast compete with it(SR3 don't count because it's terrible). I'm talking about a legitimate contender. There's money to be made there.
