Lock n' Stock
Okay, I know this is not possible, but imagine if Rockstar decided to create different GTA games set in a certain cities for each state. Base the city on the one with the largest population or crime rate (and sometimes the capital as well). We already have the obvious ones like: New York - New York City (Liberty City) Florida - Miami (Vice City) California - Los Angeles (Los Santos)/San Francisco (San Fierro) Nevada - Las Vegas (Las Venturas) But if Rockstar decided to choose other states to set GTA games in, the cities would probably be like this: Illinois - Chicago Michigan - Detroit Texas - Houston/Dallas What do you think? What state cities do you think would be fitting for settings in GTA games? This may help you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._...s_by_population Edited September 10, 2012 by Gst0395
universetwisters
carcer city would probably take the place of buffalo, ny (at least it does in my mod. Officialy, im not too sure)
gtamann123
I think Los Puerta is the GTA universe equivalent of San Diego. I'm not too sure about carcer city but Detroit seems like the best for me. But it is supposedly close by LC so Buffalo or Camden New Jersey would for the geography better. But who's to say that the geography of the GTA universe is the same as real life?
Empty World
We need GTA in Detroit and Houston.
Pyrrhic
I'm going to say this again, GTA III is not based on New York City, most people on the forums know that by now. It is a generic recreation of many east-coast cities such as New York City, Chicago, Detroit and others. It is not based on one city but rather many cities combined. Lock n' Stock
We need GTA in Detroit and Houston. Agreed. They seem like good settings. A good Texas-based GTA game could have both Houston (4th largest city in US) and Dallas as cities with countryside in between, maybe even Austin (capital of Texas) if possible. Heres some more cities I thought would be good. Maryland - Baltimore Pennsylvania - Philadelphia/Pittsburgh Washington - Seattle Seattle is a very interesting city. I thought that would make a good GTA setting. I'm going to say this again, GTA III is not based on New York City, most people on the forums know that by now. It is a generic recreation of many east-coast cities such as New York City, Chicago, Detroit and others. It is not based on one city but rather many cities combined. It was mostly based on New York City, but yes it took inspiration from other east-coast/midwest cities as well. GTA IV's rendition was more based on New York. The Notorious MOB
I'm going to say this again, GTA III is not based on New York City, most people on the forums know that by now. It is a generic recreation of many east-coast cities such as New York City, Chicago, Detroit and others. It is not based on one city but rather many cities combined. This. It wasn't until Vice City that Rockstar began to base the fictional representations on the real life cities. Carcer City in Manhunt was the same. It was based on several Rust Belt cities containing certain elements of each. Many of these cities are situated close to NYC in real life so it's fitting that Carcer would be referred to as being "nearby". I think if Rockstar were to base future games in cities other than those already featured (LC,VC,LS,SF,LV) I think they would need to take place in the past. The only stories from most cities like Chicago, D.C. and Detroit that most of us are familiar with are from the the 70s and 80s (or even the prohibition era 1930s) so it would seem too unfamiliar to use to play in them in the present day. I don't know wether this is a biased view because of my age but the GTA III era games fit perfectly with my ideas of what I thought those cities were like at the time. When GTA III came out.. I thought that's how New York really looked. When Vice City came out all that I had seen of Miami was Scarface and that fit with VC, same with San Andreas.. if somebody said to me "West Coast" I imediately thought of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Boyz in Da Hood etc. and that's where Rockstar took their inspiration from. I think in 2008 Rockstar knew that people would know the cities a lot better (having their interest sparked by the previous games and other media) so the fans would not accept a Liberty City that was unlike the real NYC and they really delivered, I went to New York the same year and when I got there I was amazed at how well they nailed it. We don't really see enough of other cities to have that same feeling though since they're not as iconic and are not featured in films and things half as much as New York or LA. The only other city I could see them doing is London.. but not in a GTA game, something more linear like Max Payne (the road networks alone would turn people off, even brits). GTA has always been about satirising how other nations see America, which is part of the series appeal. In my opinion it would be too much of a risk to take Grand Theft outside the US. Well what would be a fitting period for a instalment set in Chicago? Maybe the 1930s Al Capone Era would be good for have, or maybe the 1960s or 70s. I always thought those Eras would be good ones to have in GTA games. Nowadays though, Chicago is full of gangs like the Black Disciples, Latin Kings, Outlaws Motorcycle Club, Chicago Outfit (Mafia), 14K Triad, Almighty Saints and Chicago Gaylords. I think it would be a great city to have as a setting in a GTA game, regardless of what Era it'll be in.
Pyrrhic
I would strongly dislike a GTA that is set any time before 1980, I don't want the game to feel lie LA Noire, I want it to feel like classic GTA and Rockstar were actually quite lucky to pull that off with Vice City.
