Why Trailer#2 will be air in Oct.

Okay, so I previously made a similar topic to this 2 months ago, and no one believed me and said 'you don't know anything about marketing' and the thread just died away. I thought now would be a good time to put my points across again with greater depth as people are now starting to believe that 2012 is pretty much impossible.

Anyway, let's get started.

 

Reasons why I think Trailer #2 will go live, and full marketing will start in October;

 

 

-Max Payne 3 DLC's.

 

Rockstar has shortened the time frame for Max Payne 3, meaning they want it done and over with as soon as possible. The last map pack; Deathmatch Made In Heaven Mode Pack comes out in October. Rockstar can put their full focus toward GTA V after that.

 

 

-Grand Theft Auto franchise/Vice City Anniversary.

 

The first Grand Theft Auto came out in October 1997 for the MS-DOS and Windows. It will be 15 years since release in Oct. '12.

Vice City came out in October 2002 for the PlayStation 2. It will be 10 years since release in Oct. '12.

Now considering Rockstar announced V on the anniversary on GTA III, you can expect them to do something this time.

 

 

-Take Two, schedule and marketing campaigns.

 

So Take Two promised their shareholders that the share prices will go back up this fiscal year. They also stated that they expected most of their revenew from Rockstar, and as Max Payne 3 didn't do very good, they'll have to release it this fiscal year. Current fiscal year ends March 31st.

Now let's look at Red Dead Redemption's marketing. It had 5.5 months of full marketing (from Dec-May).

Now considering the latest possible release is March, Rockstar can release Trailer 2 and start full marketing in Oct. which gives them 4-5 months of full marketing.

 

(Minor reasons):

 

-Every GTA (Apart from IV) came out in October.

 

We can deduct that October is a special month for Rockstar.

 

 

-First trailer was also announced in October.

 

 

Please try to have a civil discussion and argue/present facts to why I could be wrong.

Yeah, it's most likely a OCT or NOV trailer with a Mar-May 2013 release date, despite our So-Called Fiscal Year Forum Experts' predections.

Half of all Bioshock 2 up until now (2+ years from release) were in the first month alone. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS 2.5 YEARS OF SALES.

If we only look at the first 3 months of Bioshock 2 sales, 89% of all sales were in the first month. GTA V will give Bioshock a one month release time, this will be enough. Anyway, Bioshock won't rack up nearly as much money as V. So I still think March is very likely release

And it was a mistake because Duke Nukem was a flop, now if they want to do the same thing they can do it but the best FY looks odd if they lose money with Bioshock...

I don't agree. Because of the huge gap in difference between the two genres I don't think it bothers them at all.

That's it. But it's pretty obvious it has to start in the next months (October/November at most December) because guessing it will be released in March, April or May it would becoming scarce for the promotional campaign. <- And even this isn't for sure. ("Few weeks" could mean anything in Rockstar language)

I think Duke Nukem Forever was a flop because today nobody is interested in an purely allien-ass-kicker like at the time of Duke Nukem 3D (1996).

From what I understand they had consolidated all the previous packs into smaller ones. The last one still comes out in October, as before. So it's not really true that they want it "over as soon as possible".

Actually, it was quite interesting. Many people expected them to announce GTAV during the anniversary week, and then they didn't. People were upset, raging on newswire and here. Then, the following week, when everyone's expectations were suddenly lowered, because it seemed like Rockstar didn't use the anniversary, they surprised everyone with the announcement!

 

I think they'll probably more than likely do some special stuff surrounding Vice City during the anniversary of that game, like they did with the GTAIII anniversary week with a special anniversary trailer etc.

Yeah but then they stopped doing that. The reasoning for October years ago was that they were just following what the industry was doing which is release during the month of October which is the single most successful month of the year in games. Since then, they've moved away from that, even Chinatown Wars released at other parts of the year. Chinatown Wars is a GTA game, too.

 

I'd like to think that a company is shaped by the people who work there (corporations are people? ), and as the majority of the people who worked at Rockstar back when they used to release GTA games in October no longer works there, and that currently the NYC Publishing team is largely made up of people who joined Rockstar in 2008 and later, they don't really think in the same terms as the company used to.

 

So when you say "October is a special month" for Rockstar, that's not really true anymore in that for the people who work there now, they don't have any special feeling towards October - with the exception of commemorating past GTA games.

I don't necessarily disagree with your point, I just don't like misleading titles and since there are already topics about this subject, you can use them instead of trying to make others opinion seem less important then your own.

So, 1 year after the trailer, not only we won't get the game, but we will have only 2 trailers by then. I still remember when I hoped the game to be released about 1 year after the announcement. Oh well.

Rockstar like to do this. RDR for example was announced in Feb. '09 and released in May '10 (15 months). Max Payne 3 too but that was delayed so considering that will be unfair.

I very much doubt this. L.A Noir and Duke Nukem is fine but releasing any game nevermind there own franchise is suicide when next to GTA.

 

In my opinion Bioshock will be given a wide birth once it's out. If the before March 31st stuff means anything and the game isn't out this year then the end of March 2013 would be the time to fit it in. Personally I think we will see GTA V in May 2013 though.

 

I agree with the topic and the OP makes very valid points. I assume we will see railer 2 in October this year. A release date will be at the end of it so then all this debating on the release date can be put to bed or at least I hope so. Sure once a release date is announced the game could be delayed but I very much doubt R* will make that mistake this time and this is possibly why we are waiting so long.

You know, these prediction threads are getting stupid. Everytime when there's someone who creates a huuuuuge page filled with letters and numbers saying things like when they expect something because of this or that they always turn out to be dead wrong.

 

It always turns out different. Not once, NOT ONCE, have I seen someone here who was right with his prediticion. I'm not saying you guys are lame. You still show a lot of good, valid, realistic and/or reasonable points, but it's always wrong.
