Dangerous neighborhoods in V

I think it would be cool if it was random. You know what would send fear up my spine? That uncomfortable silence. Walking through a bad neighborhood where it's unusually quiet would make me think twice.

 

Think of RDR. You could be out collecting plants and get jumped by a cougar. This is what I'd like in GTA V. I want to be walking through some alleyway and sometimes nothing will happen. Othertimes you should get jumped by some crazy crackhead with a syrnge full of blood.

Yes completely. That subtle element of fear - of imminent attack.

 

Rockstar could develop this through random encounters - instead of having something challenge you to a duel, they could hold a gun to you and mug you - or something like that?

 

I think a balance is best. The subtley of IV's gangs was great and very realistic. However, the fear of walking through certain areas in the III area was not present. In hindsight some of this (Saint Marks) was well over the top.

 

A balance is best. Have dangerous areas be a bit more "Thieves Landing" - the police don't show up as much. Have more random attacks by other NPCs on other NPCs where you have a choice to help them like in RDR, and of course have them randomly attack you.

 

It all adds to the immersion but does not spoil your ability to explore a certain area without imminent death.

Well I know that in TBoGT sometimes if you have your gun out in AOD turf they'll tell you to put it away and if you don't they'll turn hostile but I think that was added in to put more of an emphasis on their racism.

 

The heavily gang controlled areas need to make the player feel more uncomfortable but I don't want to see the player getting shot on sight unless there's an explanation of some kind for the beef.

 

The gangs need to watch the player as they move through their turf and begin to harass them if they hang around for too long.

 

If the player draws a weapon their hostility should start to rise faster and be more deadly.

Something like that to make the city feel alive, especially at sunset and night.

I want the countryside to have some dangerous areas as well.. make a wrong move and you'll find yourself being chased back into the city by rednecks in pickups throwing molotovs at your car. 

That would work. getting chase by pickup or people with pitch forks and riffles would be a good way to increase environmental play.

 

RDR style animal attacks too but the animal has a territory like a gang so you walk into that area more likely to be mauled. That would fix some peoples issues with RDR style animal attacks too. Don't wanna be mauled don't go into that area.

 

EDIT: But the chances should be closer to 25% rate unless you pissed that area off recently. A heat level for NPC in that area would be nice.

This is another good reason to have the older guy as a protagonist it will give us a different perspective on LS. Some of the places where someone like CJ would call home would become a completely different place to a guy like Ned Luke, all of the ghetto will feel like Balla territory to him in terms of hostility, it would lead to some extremely tense experiences traversing those areas

It's just what I want too, something I hardly ever saw in GTA IV. I hope V fixes this.

 

And Training Day is a great example of a movie that could be used to influence a modern-day LA setting in V. It has all the right ingredients for it.

In IV, no matter where you drive you don't really have to worry about ppl taking shots at you and I can't recall my car ever being stolen.

That's not entirely true. There are random moments in single player where you are attacked by people you angered. They chase you down and shoot at you.

 

I also remember once stealing an armored track with a couple Jamaican guys inside. Suddenly an SUV full of Jamaican guys pulls up and starts shooting at me.

 

I guess the reason you didn't see those III and GTA:SA shootings was because there was no real gang element in GTAIV. Let's say there is a similar type of gang system in GTAV, I don't really see it being similar in AI terms. They'd have to really spot you before starting to come at you or shoot at you. In GTA3 it was really crazy, while in GTA:SA it was updated a bit and made more realistic as you know.

Yeah I want to see dangerous areas return in V it doesn't have to be territory like SA though.. more like certain ghetto streets/areas with Mexican, afro american, Chinese gangsters etc and drug dealers with guns concealed like the black guy with white t-shirt in trailer (reminded me of the wire which was cool) I think drugs could make a very good storyline/side plot maybe you could transport them in the plane to different parts of the island then load them up in your car for distribution and sell them to contacts in different areas to build your empire up.

 

The rich areas you would see a lot of for sale signs as the drug addicts f*ck there lives up and there forced to sell on.. the gang areas have more fiends robbing, mugging and getting beat up/killed by dealers/gangs they owe aswell a more dealers dealers and gangsters hanging around there trying to milk that area dry. This would show the effects on communities as you become the king pin and could make for some compelling missions/situations and also enemies for your character/s in the game, certain gangs going to war with each other over who should get better supply from you would also be cool NPC vs NPC is something that needs to be there.

 

I never understood fans saying they don't want to be a gangster/dealer this is gta a crime game we want violence and brutality!

Yeah GTA IV did have areas where if you caused problems it would erupt into a firefight. Hove beach was one of them. I remember there was a random gun battle that erupted that I didn't even initiate and the cops got involved. I just sat back a watched, it was sooo funny!

 

But on topic: Of course there should areas that are sketchy but following SA's 100 percent isn't the way to go.

I'd prefer that things remain subtle with a flavor of realism. As has been mentioned before, you're not really likely to get mugged or see daily gang warfare in a bad neighborhood. That's not really how things work and I'd prefer not to be mugged every time I walk somewhere on the map.

 

I would enjoy some sort of reputation system that would provide a chance of people attacking you.
