Raynos
OP. GTA 3, You were seriously a nobody. Your voice always fell on deaf ears. in GTA. You Had to be afraid of cops because you were an escaped convict. You were seriously a low level thug out for revenge. In the other GTA games, you're most serious and EXPERIENCED. A hardcore negro in SA would not fear the POlice, they would do drive-bys at the cops. GTA IV, Had it perfect. Yes, There were no "Dangerous Places" expect for the police areas. Ya know, as soon as you enter and you get 4 stars and 10 cops shooting at you with M16s? GTA 3, The gang areas were f*cking annoying, especially once you've completed the game, you just can not go there, you cars get shot to sh*t and blows up before you can pull over and jump out! Sure, you could use your Bulletproof Hummer, but not if you were on foot. SO really.. What is it with people these days? They want everything HARD. Old School bullsh*t. I've been gaming for a while, I was 14 when playing GTA 3. I like how gaming has evolved now. So FAR I'm happy with the direction of GTA. It is going in a GOOD direction. I do not want to go backwards! IMO GTA VC was the BEST. GTA 3 WAS the best for my first ps2 game. GTA IV is far Superior and I can only hope that GTA V improves rather than cheaply increasing difficultly as you've suggested.

I thought this was about making the cops say serious stuff instead of humor, and making peds sound much more terrified when you do crazy sh*t.. not about giving the cops RPGs and laser beams from their mouths. ArvutiN7
I don't really think that the cop voices and pedestrians really matter too much. I am way too busy escaping from cops, instead of listening on what they say. And frankly it's annoying in GTA 3, a lot of places where you go your car gets shot to sh*t by the lighting fast shotguns. I liked it better in san andreas where if you were in ballas territory etc they would still act hostile, but not wipe you out in 5 seconds. And I don't really understand how liberty city in GTA 3 sounds scary. It's not even supposed to be scary
CoreGunnit
Whilst GTA IV is my favourite in the series, Stopped reading at that. We have seen GTA 3 visited again this gen with GTA IV and honestly I hope that's the last time we see Liberty City. Now that San Andreas is been revisited so to speak in GTA V I think the next GTA game should either be Vice City again or even better something completely new. Vice City is my best GTA game to date and although I'm a little disappointed R* have decided to skip going back there for now I honestly would prefer somewhere new next. Why did you 'stopped reading'? Any good reason?

It's not even supposed to be scary It was totally scary when I was 11 years old, it felt like anywhere there could be danger, like the game could somehow sense that was a rookie and was out to get me. Even the traids seemed scary. Of course, years later its not very scary bit i went back and played it again and realized it does have a form of grittyness that even gta4 cant top. gta4s grittyness is more sad and sullen but gtaIIIs seriousness is totally different. Its menacing and jokey at the same time, always striking a perfect balance.
significantother
While I do agree that GTA 3 was very dark, scary and mysterious, I do not agree on this whole re-visit GTA 3 thing. I think Rockstar is heading the right direction. You say you want realism, yet when you run over a pedestrian in GTA 3 it sounds like your guy just ran over a freaking tomato and not a human being, or something. The humor is fine. I do agree that the police in GTA 3 sound more imitating, threatening and sound like real life police, but, there is no need for changes.

In that second Little Jacob mission, where you have to drive his car and you have the opportunity to pin someone between a wall and the bumper, it does not sound like you squished a tomato. It sounds like someone that is in agonizing pain just dented your car. I feel with the realistic touches GTA is now far better equipped to make jokes about the world around us because it is such a good reflection of the world around us. I'm not saying we need fuel, or jail time, or crazy amounts of gameplay elements that don't make sense. But I trust R* with the direction they are headed. They know what they are doing. I actually agree with this, III achieved the grittiness far more than IV did, III felt a lot more menacing, dark and scary than IV. I always felt that III had a greUteat storyline, good voice acting and a good story, IV came close in some ways, but for me IV f*cked up a lot with dialogue, as in it was too much, nothing was to the point, there was no guessing/reading inbetween the lines. Sometimes less is more Rockstar, particularly with dialogue. Edited September 14, 2012 by finn4life

GTA III was a menacing game for its time, but I always felt the story was more about what was going on around Claude rather than Claude himself which made it kind of dull. For a game without the Hollywood stardom of the GTA III era the voice actors done a great job in GTA IV. It felt more real instead of like a movie script IMO. Well i guess it's a difference of opinion, i think IV was crappy in storyline and Niko was just an annoying cry-baby. III felt more like a storyline with multiple protagonists, it's like Claude was an extension of the other characters and that felt more real for me. But like i said we will never ever agree, you love the sh*t out of IV whereas i didn't as much and loved GTA III.

I think GTA III was great for 2001 in terms of story telling, but I'll always maintain R* outdone themselves with GTA IV. Niko came across as so genuine and believable rather than feeling like an actor reading from a script. I don't know, but what others see as "crying" I see as raw and genuine emotion. At times Niko didn't even feel like a video game character. I respect GTA III for everything it done, but I'm not afraid to admit I enjoy GTA IV more. It is just pointless for anyone on here to even try and convince you to accept any very negative criticism of IV and Niko himself. But I respect the fact that you are not afraid to admit it, and you do at least explain yourself in a coherent and constructive manner most times. I kinda agree with Zee though. I would say that GTA III did feel more scary and intimidating than GTA IV. Not by a great amount, but yeah I think III felt that way. In III, the streets just felt more dangerous - you would see people getting robbed, shot, and beaten up in streets at random - I remember walking the streets and being very wary of all what was going on around me, not knowing what might happen next, to me or someone else. I can always remember the Mafia v Triad war, when the streets in Liberty City at in III just exploded with gunfire from the shoot-outs. I really missed the feeling of all that in III. I did like Niko as a protagonist, but I too thought he was a tad bit too depressing. Yeah it may have fit the storyline, but it did get on my nerves a little bit. But for most part, he was a good protagonist, just not the best one by far.
Loves GTA
Can't say i see it that way at all really. Cops in GTA IV crack me up: 'Permission to blow his head off' 'I'm that bad-ass nigga yo momma warned you about' And this is a white fat cop saying, LOL! And there's many more. And personally i don't want to see Liberty City for a long long loooooong time. We've had that enough now with GTA III, GTA LC Stories and GTA IV. I'm so damn glad we finally get some real variety in environments in GTA V. The fat white cops never make that statement. Only the black "in shape" ones.
