personally I'm a little tired of it already. yes it was sad and yes it was tragic and yet it shouldn't have happened.

although I wasn't directly affected, to be perfectly honest. and so I tend to agree with Bill Maher when he says that our obsession with 9/11 is kind of pathetic.

when a thousand Americans die, America acts like it's the most tragic event ever that we should never ever forget ever. never ever. ever never.

we raise monuments and sing songs and cry rivers of tears and stop everything we're doing to pray and watch TV specials and listen to speeches.

ugh.

meanwhile, hundreds of innocent civilians die every few months (thousands every year) in Iraq and/or Afghanistan thanks directly to the wars that we started there. wars that were not even necessary. wars that were started under false pretenses and attacked the people who didn't actually attack us. Iraq and Afghanistan were not responsible for 9/11.

but no one sheds a tear for them aside from their own families.

the media in this country completely ignores the civilian death toll.

no songs, no monuments, no crying, no TV specials, no speeches.

such utter hypocrisy. the irony would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

I honestly don't give a f*ck, I mean it was so long ago now. Plus I'm Muslim and hate America, third good that they killed 100's, f*ck everyone who thinks it was bad.

Bit harsh, don't you think?

He is obviously trolling, isn't that obvious? Real Muslims would never say that, watch this video...

No, i'm not a muslim, but i know the differnece between real ones and trolls, i have many muslim friends by the way, very nice people...

On-Topic: R.I.P to all the people that died on 9/11

Yea dude they ran it live all day like it was f*cking video game footage, we were all watching people die in massive explosions with commentary from news anchors in the background and it was all intended for the viewers pleasure. Stop bursting into every thread announcing how tolerant and non bigoted you are, we get that you're the chief of the peace police, stand down already, it's enough for Christ's sake.

I was in New York on 9/11. I was 11 years old. My father was supposed to be in a business meeting in the WTC at the time but took a sick day. I was at school for most of the day thinking he was in there.

It was a very bad day.

I thought you were British? Oh wait...

I feel for the victims and their families. However, I also feel for the 6000 people who died from AIDS in Africa that day and every single day since that day that we have been remembering that day for the 3000 deaths that happened that day.

I wonder how much more ahead we'd be if society would divert the energy spent dwelling over the past to things such as fixing the problems we have now.

I was in 3rd grade and i didn't know about it till i went home. My dad was working in midtown that day so he wasn't near the WTC. In the 1980's though he used to work in it. R.I.P. to all the victims, and i hope nothing like that will ever happen to us ever again

(I've SEARCHED for this topic, i didn't find any topic like this or related).

There's one literally every year and someone always goes ahead and starts way before the actual date and it's always the same with "where were and how old were you?"

every year

Well, it is important to reflect you know. smile.gif Every year, new people come forward with their experiences. It's important to hear everyone's stories, because for all we know, there's people out who lost someone on that day and haven't come forward yet with their story for whatever reason (age, shyness, etc).

On a lighter note, it certainly is cool seeing the progress World Trade Center One has made recently. Last time I heard, the steel skeleton was completed and they're now working on sheathing the structure in glass. Every time I see the new tower in some commercial or a panoramic shot, it just seems so surreal because for so many years I've gotten used to seeing nothing in that location.

I'll probably be criticized for saying this, but it's now become a lifelong dream of mine to visit the memorial and the new towers when they're all finally completed.

I get where your coming from and yes there is a big dark side to the wars, but they were harboring WMDs and the terrorist group Al Qaeda and were perfectly capable of topping their previous project.

Iraq was the worst of the two because Saddam basically came out and said they had WMDs and intelligence proved that their government kissed Al Qaeda's ass.

Well the same can be said for other even larger countries *cough*

Anyway. If you guys notice, most of the not so enthusiastic responses here are coming from members who have been here for a while. You can only say "RIP to everyone" so many times before you wish people would stop bringing it up. I don't think a new topic needs to be made every year. Hell, if I could find the original topic I would dig it up, but I can't be arsed. It might make you guys feel that warm and creamy patriotism ooze down your face when you say "It was so sad," but the rest of us have said it enough and seen it enough and remember it. Don't worry guys, we wont forget.

they were harboring WMDs and the terrorist group Al Qaeda

this isn't true.

http://csis.org/publication/terrorism-and-...war-afghanistan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_and_weap...ass_destruction

there were no WMD's and Al-Qaeda doesn't operate exclusively out of any particular country. they're an international terrorist group. they have members in Yemen and Pakistan and even parts of Northeastern Europe. but you don't see the US invading those regions.

just because they happened to be hiding in the mountains of Afghanistan or on the Iraqi border does not mean that the state of Iraq or Afghanistan was intentionally harboring them.

these are classic misconceptions.

the Bush administration lied about WMD's. if they weren't outright lying, then they simply didn't have a clue.

either way it's extreme incompetence on their part.

It's funny that your're saying that when the united states is probably the most hated country in the world at the moment.

Your Government exploited such a horrible event by attacking an innocent country and killing almost a million people while also stealing valuable resources and in the process killing or injuring thousands of your own soldiers.

That's why my dear friend, I don't find it sad.

Well, I doubt Canada (or any other country) would (fake)mourn for decades after the event and make a topic about it just for the sake of... making a topic about it. There was a time when it was genuine, now it's just something that people train to do every year: Pretend to have sympathy for those who died.

It's been Eleven years and a war, and you got the guy, so, I think that the US (or the people who are fake-mourning) should move on and tend to more pressing issues. To those who are genuinely mourning for a good reason, well... the date is significant to them.

But making a topic for the sake of saying 'I made the 9/11 11th anniversary topic' is almost as disgusting as saying that 9/11 was funny. You see, the people who make these threads just to say 'I made the 9/11 thread' are 'capitalizing' on 9/11 (by using it for 'e-fame') and making a joke out of it.

You're not acting like a normal human, you're acting like an annoying one who pats himself on the back every chance he gets in front of strangers on an Internet forum. Simmer down now, boy.
