There's one literally every year and someone always goes ahead and starts way before the actual date and it's always the same with "where were and how old were you?" every year Rown
Greenline
What? Isn't it September 8th? Anyways, it was a tragic event and RIP to all those who were affected, but... Is there really a need for a topic about it every year? I mean, last year it was understood because it was a decade since the event, and a bit before that it was still fresh, but now... There's really no need for a topic, I doubt the President/nominees will say anything about it either, maybe a little statement, but nothing big. But, again, RIP to all those affected. But, we're having people die in Syria currently, people are dying everywhere, even. RIP to all those who passed away. Somewhere in the world, someone is mourning. RIP to those. And may all who are mourning currently be given strength .

No, no, he's not saying that you have to start with that kind of title, he's just saying that it's become a tad repetitive every year.
Original Light
Last year's topic, for anyone interested: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=486575&st=0 It's a sad day, R.I.P everyone who died. Is the memorial finished yet? If I remember correctly, it won't be completed until 2013.

Adriaan
Is the memorial finished yet? If I remember correctly, it won't be completed until 2013. Parts of it is. But it's not really "open" yet. The entire area is still surrounded by these high, blue colored walls, with construction workers inside working 24/7. There's also a waiting list for getting inside and long queues. I was in New York for the first time last September and it really makes a difference being there. I remember looking around the neighborhood, watching people go by in their daily lives, thinking about how an ordinary day can suddenly change in a dramatic way. dumbassbuffet
Forgive me if this disrespectful but aren't there bigger things to worry about in the world than a single attack? I mean every single day, hundreds to thousands of civilians die in conflicts ironically based on what happens to people when they die, conflicts over land, and who owns the oil under their feet. at the same time, there's people in the developed world gorging on expensive food then wasting it by regurgitating it into a toilet while other people dig through garbage bins for apple cores because they're starving. Is that what the Mossad calls its database nowadays? Pfft, Israeli apartheid. Anyways, I hope that none of those conspiracy theorists suddenly come back to the forums. Including but not limited to, the guy who said Syrians love Assad, the guy who kept calling you 'Israeli Apartheid' and the guy who called you a Mossad agent. The world was cruel before 9/11, the world was cruel after 9/11 and the world will still be cruel when we're all rotting in the ground. I mean, when someone brings it up, I can say 'how awful', but do I really mean it? Do I really care about those people you mentioned who die horrible deaths or live their lives in abject squalor? No, I don't care. And maybe that's healthy, maybe it's healthier to trot out this fake sorrow every time September 11th rolls around. I sometimes wonder if people mark it on the calender and attack a note saying 'must remember to feign sympathy'.
Zee
I was in New York on 9/11. I was 11 years old. My father was supposed to be in a business meeting in the WTC at the time but took a sick day. I was at school for most of the day thinking he was in there. It was a very bad day. In the beginning theres a funeral and while some people are greiving, others are clearly just there because they have to be and are only upset because they are inconvenienced by it. That scene sickened me (and it sets the mood for the rest of the movie), and it sickens me when the polititions, the media, and a percentage of the population pretend to give a sh*t about what happened on september 11th, 2001 while the only thing that really affected them was that they now need to get frisked by the TSA when they fly on their exotic resort vacations. Chunkyman
To address the conspiracy theories, I think the idea that Bush planned the attacks is wrong, there is no evidence for it and it's stupidity is on par with moon landing and JFK conspiracies. That doesn't mean all conspiracy theories are wrong, though. There are some serious flaws in the official 9/11 report, and after looking at the evidence I have concluded that the World Trade Centers never even existed. When 9/11 happened I was a 3rd grader watching the TV with the rest of the class. The teacher was crying, but I just sat there not understanding what was happening. lil weasel
9/11 was 10 years ago 9/11 conspiracies are pathetic. I understand the memorial in NY is drawing tourists for picniking and generally using the mourn-ments as Chairs. Because there aren't any benches? Somebody didn't think ahead. True, there is a lack of seating at the memorial. But it's really not meant as a place where you just sit down and have your lunch...

EscoLehGo
What a crazy time that was, all the anthrax paranoia, the terror color code system, over the top patriotism, people loading up on duct tape to keep the poison gas out of their homes when the dirty bomb explodes. I remember watching the invasion of Afghanistan play out live on TV and then two years later came the shock and awe of blowing Baghdad up again delivered live for my viewing pleasure, glad that era is over. Aye, truly it was a terrible time. Only thing that kept me going was GTA games. They were like another reality I could escape to during that sh*tty time period and it was invaluable which is why despite my complaints I will always be a GTA fan. MIKON8ERISBACK
I was six years old in grade 1. I remember walking home from school (I lived and still do live in a house extremely close to the elementary school) and having a gut feeling in my head that something horrible had happened. I didn't know too much about it until I got home. Our then new 50 something inch rear projection big screen TV was tuned to CNN for the next few days and frequently for weeks after. TheTerminatorNY
I start getting sad every time September rolls around because I know all the bed memories will be brought up again. I can't stand to watch any of the footage from that day. I also don't enjoy the memorial at all, I'd rather not go to be honest but it's pretty much an obligation at this point.
