Fozzy Fozborne
Hey guys, I purchased and returned an XFX 6870 because it was too loud. By loud I mean almost unbelievably loud. Regardless, it's in the mail back to Amazon and I'm looking for a replacement. I've been reading entirely too many reviews and benchmarks and I was hoping someone could get back with some personal experience with any of these cards. I'm open to either brand and any manufacturer. I really like this card from AMD and this one from the green team. Thoughts? From what I gather they're both a bit better than the 6870. I know there's a price war going on right now, any chance the prices will drop? My limit is $220. The rest of the system follows: MSI Z77A-G43 Motherboard Intel Core i5 3570k (This is at stock speeds and stock cooler. Boo. This will soon be rectified.) 16GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Vengeance Corsair CX600 V2 (40 amps on the single 12v rail, should be powerful enough for anything in this price range) Thanks guys! SyphonPayne
7850 is faster but 560 Ti has better drivers. Either one should be sufficient until the next gen consoles come out and finally the PC will be getting console ports that actually tax decent hardware. Now there are a few games that need more power to ramp up the eye candy, could always SLI/Xfire later on if you want all the eye candy.
Finn 7 five 11
Was your last gpu single fan? I would recommend getting the dual fan this time around if you're fussed about noise, but it will probably cost a little bit more. I would think the 7850 would be quieter than the 560 because it's newer, will probably be cooler therefore slower fan speed, I think. Pat
7850 is faster but 560 Ti has better drivers. I've had both Nvidia and ATI cards and to this day I do not understand all the criticisms for ATI drivers. I have not noticed a single difference between the two. Honestly, I think they're exaggerated almost as much as the cooling issues are exaggerated for Nvidia cards. Personal recommendation would be the 7850. Especially if you're interested in playing something like GTA IV, which is going to struggle with a 1GB card (I say this from personal experience). yoječ
Definitely HD7850 - faster, cooler and more power efficient. You might wait till nVidia releases new GeForce models from 600 series, it should happen this month.
Fozzy Fozborne
Alright, thanks guys. I just didn't want to mess it up again. The previous card was a single fan card. The rumors are that the 650ti will compete with the 7850 but won't come out until October or November and I don't really want to wait that long. Thank you, though for your help. Pat
Your limit is absolutely $220, right? I don't know if you have any wiggle room at all, but MSI has the new GTX 660 for $300. This is one of the best combinations of price and performance, in my opinion.
Fozzy Fozborne
I considered that for a while, but it's too rich for my blood.

Well, other than nVidia's drivers, there isn't really anything else.
Stinky12
The cards I've owned are single fan and they're quite as a mouse. Maybe it's the amount of dust clogging the heatsink fins that's causing your CPU not to get cool air, thus fan has to go full load. For single, I personally like them blower style cooler so hot air gets pushed out the back vents. And certain motherboard software will causing a graphic card to go full load too. Uninstall any motherboard utilities or video card overclocking softwares and see if that helps.

This is the best midrange card out there as it nearly matches the 660 Ti's performance while being $70 cheaper. Here's a good review of the card. Take note on the second page how they discuss the cooler. Basically the fans barely spin up under load.
