SmC12
Well like has been mentioned all work places are stressful. Especially in a competative market like Game Development, it's extremely complex and things take time and hard concentration, so when management and publishers interfere with the work it will obviosuly become unbearable for some people. However you have to realise that this is extremely biased, from an employee who does not enjoy working at Rockstar. So that paints a negative picture of the entire company, as if everyone who works there is miserable. This is a small minority out of the thousands of Rockstar employees who probably love their job and workplace. But of course nobody likes tough work and being on the lower ranks of an organisation, it's the same for any company.

True, but i do remember reading about how some people got sick because of the inhumance working conditions and times they had to work. That some people were actually suicidal and what not. But like you say, there's no doubt plenty of happy employees there too.
Finn 7 five 11
I guess none of you guys read the whole thing, rockstar is better than most other developers, they are getting paid properly at least, just about every other company under pays workers so at least it's slightly fair. The problem is incompetent managers and too many levels on the company, so developers can't communicate with higher UPS and vice versa, most companies need an overhaul, less managers who do sh*t and more money for competent workers. From ubisoft, more levels mean more problems. " When I joined, there were three levels between me and the VP of the department. When I left, there were six levels (three new ones were created)." Valve was the only place lacking problems and it's because they encourage competitiveness without the bullsh*t (politics). Valve scored 5 only one other company came close.at 4.4 all the rest were bad at 2 or 3. " Pros – good quality of life, and being surrounded by creative people. there are many reasons to work at valve. the standards are pretty high, but they push you and really make you strive for the newest, best thing. there is no formal management structure, and responsibility is given on a competence level or if one asks for it. there is lots of room to try new things, so you feel like you are learning all the time. i have been at valve for many years and found it to be extremely rewarding, both in a business sense and personal one. Cons – very competitive internally (high standards). Advice to Senior Management – more insight into what's happening at the company, future plans." Inaudible-Whisper
My friend works for Ubisoft and he has similar horror stories. Poor management, terrible hours, overworked and underpaid. But at the end of the day he's overjoyed to be working on something he is passionate about. A lot of people can't say that. That isn't too say big improvements can't be made for employees. I didn't know that. Let's take Naughty Dog for example, i saw several videos where they gave a studio tour and the whole vibe, the whole atmosphere seemed absolutely awesome there. They have a dog walking around there and they all act like they are family. I don't know the company, but i really doubt ND is this bad, with 'this bad' i don't only mean the Rockstar example, but all those other companies that have these dire working conditions. Gtaghost22
Conclusion: Rockstar cares about gamers, some of it's employees are just lazy whining f*cks. At least you're getting paid good and proberly you sad f*cks, who cares if they are "overworking" you a little bit, quit the job then instead of whining you bunch of low lifes, oh wait... you can't, because you KNOW they're the best. Edit: Valve is f*cking 5, like really wtf? i like Valve don't get me wrong, but 5/5 is just pure f*cking bullsh*t. Edit: it's from Kotaku, well, nevermind my post then, that site is ran by attention-seekers and all they care about is hits, obvious flambait is f*cking OBVIOUS. And why wouldn't Valve get 5/5? Their working environment is insane. Nobody has a boss and you can work on any project you want. A job shouldn't make you depressed/suicidal etc. I am sure they enjoy the field they have chosen and enjoy on the product they are making for us....that doesn't mean they should put up with such BS or find another job... OT: I think it also has to be pointed out that both of these are from former employees of R*. I am not saying it is lies, but eitherway. RED_
To be perfectly honest, there's two interesting points there. 1) The bit saying that projects can be sidelined for a few years if it's not the game they are focusing on. *cough*Agent. They said GTAV was being worked on around the time of IV so it makes sense. 2) Someone can disappear for an hour break and nobody would care; there is nothing wrong with that. I worked at a place where I could leave for a drink or for a walk whenever I wanted. As a result they expected a lot of work. You were hired and fired within a few weeks if you didn't do well. They give you these liberties but they expect the work. I can't see it being any different at Rockstar. They probably have a way of measuring performance so it doesn't matter how many breaks you take as long as you get the work done.
ajrunke
I don't get how a workplace can be too casual.. ? If that's a problem, wear a suit to work and it's fixed. People with sh*t work ethic wouldn't understand it. See, people with great work ethic get pissed when they see some sh*t employee dragging ass all day long. A job shouldn't make you depressed/suicidal etc. I To be fair though the guy has a point. Things can't be that bad if these employees are still working there. It's a bit like me going to work there and having no clue what I'm doing only to say "I have the right to have this job so make things more easy for me or I'll cry and the internet". Also I'll admit if not stayed with a job for a long period of time and don't have one now so maybe that's why I have the opinion I do? Either way it's first world problems. Gtaghost22
Guys, why are you debating? Yes, i overreacted a bit but who gives a f*ck? It's from Kotaku, bunch of attention-seeking c*nts on that site, all they care about is f*cking hits, if you follow gaming news you will know what i mean, google thier Gran Turismo 5 scandal, motherf*ckers faked a video to convince people that load times are x3 times longer than it's actually are, after they got caught, they were like "it's not our video, we just found it on a forum, or it was sent to us by a youtuber" so you admit you stole it and didn't credit the owner? bunch of lying motherf*ckers, i hate them so much. Kotaku = sh*t /thread.

Vanzant
If somebody doesn't like their job they can go elsewhere to work. That's how I see it. A bunch of whining doesn't really deserve a thread here as many have agreed, it's probably made up sh*t. In any way or fashion not GTAV related.
