naught405
GTAIV.exe will not access more than 2GB memory and crashes when it gets near that. I have verified (using CFF Explorer) that it is largeaddressaware and i have the launch options set to "-norestrictions -reservedApp 0 -nomemrestrict." This is GTA IV via steam v1.0.7.0. Running on Win7x64 on the rig in my signature. Anyone know what to do?
lydianduck
Try the 4gb patch: http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php Let us know how it works! -edit- btw, you have to apply it to GTAIV.exe not launchgtaiv.exe. ALSO, keep those commandlines and add "-reserve 0" as well. Edited September 4, 2012 by Brainsick
naught405
ok i added that command and i ran the 4gb patch but all that does is set the largeaddressaware flag to yes which i already said is set (see CFF explorer,) that's the main problem. lydianduck
Maybe your game is trying to use system ram as video ram? Have you tried using a -memrestrict commandline? Look it up. I have almost the exact system, except with 8gb ram and a 2500k instead (also @4.5ghz) and I haven't experienced a single crash maybe ever, so don't give up. naught405
Maybe your game is trying to use system ram as video ram? Have you tried using a -memrestrict commandline? Look it up. Unfortunately no, in fact it doesn't even recognize shared video memory and only accesses dedicated video memory for graphical processing. I have used the memrestrict commandline and I can set it to whatever I want but it doesn't affect the amount of video ram the game uses. The gtx580 is totally sufficient though so i'm not really worried about video memory. My main concern is that the executable is flagged as 'can use >2GB ram' but still crashes when it gets up to about 1.93GB memory used. LAA is Set: memory usage: if GTAIV goes above ~1.9m then the game crashes
luceberg
How are you applying the commandlines? Save it to the games folder as commandline, not commandline.txt. Use -reservedApp 0 on it's own.
lydianduck
What about disabling Clip Capture? as far as I know it alleviates the amount of ram usage.

xDodox
Works for me but after 2GB I get the memory leak.
mkey82
Are you quite sure you should be forcing this setting? Every application is designed to use a certain amount of memory, the fact GTAIV at times like to go past something like 1.5GB is the memory leak (IMO.) In other words, if an application can use a lot for RAM, it doesn't mean it will. I had made a number of tests on the subject and what I think goes on is that the game really lets loose on the RAM usage which in my case, after about an hour, led to performance problems. After checking the RAM usage it was closer to 2GB then it was to 1.5GB. If I loaded the game at that point, the memory usage would go down, back to 1.5GB, performance would improve a bit for another 45 minutes to an hour, then it went back where it was before reloading the savegame. Of course, it's to be expected that the game will trim it's memory usage a bit after reloading as it gets to free up some resources, but in this case I believe it related more to bad memory management. xDodox
I only reached the +2GB with " -nomemrestrict " . Without it's much better, cauz i don't get the memory leak.
