Are leaks possible?

Yeah, the guy had to be arrested and charged; it's a big deal to violate your contract in such a drastic manner.

I hope Xcommunicated gives me one more response, though I could see why he wouldn't, y'know, taking care of 56468541651 fake leak posts.

**Attention: There's a very low chance of any leak being legitimate -- please think before you post, and use common sense.**

We should change the heading to what I just quoted. That's all I'm saying.

Edit: and I don't think I'm "nitpicking" or "asking for too much" -- the disclaimer is false in 3 different ways ... give me access to the FTP server and I'll fix it in 2 minutes (as would anyone else who knows how to use Notepad).

I think people are forgetting about Deepthroat...... ph34r.gif

I heard that Dethroat actually worked with R* as a marketer to get people interested in IV.

It all seems a tad drastic if you ask me... FBI, Banning people.. prohibiting free speech.. Christ, it's only a game after all.

If you're going to steal something from your workplace, make that game available online for anyone to download, and violate a confidentially clause in a contract you signed, that justifies being arrested for.

Yeah, by all means. All's I'm saying is that stopping people from talking about it or face the ban hammer... and theft with illegal file sharing is something the police could handle by them selves.. FBI is usually a bit more busy with terrorists and what not.

All this for a game... It's not like you wouldn't of been able to illegally download that game game if you stopped this one man from steeling a copy either. He just did it a little sooner is all.

@mvega0422

I still think the original remains true. The San Andreas thing I talked about was an employee at the Take-Two plant.

There was never any instance of a Rockstar employee going out and leaking game details - meaning explicitly going out and writing up blog or forum posts. The multiple protagonist and Hollywood thing... if true, was leaked by way of games journalists.

Here's your response:

Yes, leaks are entirely possible and the disclaimer at the top of the forums is there merely to deter people from posting the 99.9801% of rumors that are complete bs and not actual leaks.

So the reason for a false disclaimer is to discourage kids from discussing certain things? Why can't we be honest about it? Seems similar to the government propoganda regarding "reefer madness" just to get people to fear cannabis.

Well, for every actual leak there are 56468541651 made up rumors. My point is that an actual leak is so statistically low that it's not worth enduring everyone and his retarded dog posting endless rumors in hopes that one of them actually turns out to be true.

I hate to argue, but I can't resist making a painfully obvious point.

It should be the moderators' job to rid the forum of too many "leak" posts. It seems as though they put the disclaimer there to save them work. And don't give me that sh*t about how "it's a tough job being a moderator" because I can name a dozen people on this forum who would make wonderful moderators and put their heart and soul into the job for zero money. I'm on this GTA V forum every day for approximately 1-2 hours in total and I'm certain I read every single post. There's not a post I miss; with all due respect, it's really nowhere near as bad as you make it sound.

lolwut

I don't quite follow your logic with trying to turn this into a bad assumption that as staff we'd ever bitch about helping out the forums being a difficult job. I'll be honest on the matter. It ain't hard. At all. And I've never said otherwise.

But that has nothing to do with the purpose of the disclaimer (for the record, it was the admins that put it there, not the mods). Again, it is entirely possible for a leak to happen, but it's very, very improbable. A person has about as good a chance of winning the lottery as one of these rumors has a chance being a legitimate leak. It's totally logical to deter such a load of nonsense.

If it's a legitimate leak of information, the source shouldn't matter. The disclaimer is what we call a "logical fallacy" because they are claiming that since a Rockstar employee has never leaked information, that leaks aren't possible. Just because Rockstar employees haven't leaked legitimate information in the past, that doesn't mean legitimate information hasn't been leaked in the past.

Even worse, the damn disclaimer claims "it won't happen in the future" and regardless of the rest of the words, these six words are totally false and misleading, because anyone in the company can leak anything at any moment and no one can stop them.

I still feel like the disclaimer is wrong in several ways, and should be changed to something else that actually makes sense and doesn't go against logic.

that it's not worth enduring everyone and his retarded dog posting endless rumors in hopes that one of them actually turns out to be true.

Do you really consider it a lot for you all to endure? Isn't this forum technically loaded with endless rumors that we hope turn out to be true?

I think you should read it again...

That statement is saying Rockstar employees haven't leaked in the past, which is true. The nearest it got was when sites in 2007 were given advanced trailers and some Italian website decided they were cool enough to release it hours before on YouTube.

Nevermind, apparently no one understands what I'm saying.

This forum claims at the top of every f*cking page that game details have not and will not be leaked, and I think they are 100% wrong.

It doesn't matter who leaks the information, it really doesn't matter. It could be someone who snuck into the building; regardless, leaks can happen.

I just don't understand how you can seriously say that a Rockstar employee will never leak game details. The only people on Earth that could say that with certainty are Rockstar themselves, and even they wouldn't be so ignorant as to ignore the possibility of a leak.

@mvega0422

As I've stated above, it was an employee at the Take-Two plant. The Take-Two plant. Not those working as developers or in the publishing offices of Rockstar Games.

Even so, that example is different than the leaks that are going on and have been going on (faked linked profiles, long forum posts etc.) .

EDIT: I don't fully appreciate you deleting your comments entirely and replacing it with "nevermind". My reply above was to you're saying the San Andreas leak was an example of "Rockstar" leaking things (which you deleted after my post above).

If you can't have a fair debate over something, and play this way, then I don't see this going anywhere other than a lock.

EDIT 2: Now open to give you a chance to respond. I'll be away for a while so I'll leave this to other mods for the time being to decide on it (originally I thought it was a legitimate thread, by the way). But not when you try to manipulate.

Obviously leaks are possible but the chance of that happening is... slim. Even if it happens, there's always the legitimacy question. That's why I keep a bookmark folder with such "leaks", then we'll see who was legit or who wasn't. Who knows? It could've happened.

@Oldsmobile

It was San Andreas. More like two weeks I believe. Someone from the plant stole a copy and leaked the manual. Also, he uploaded the game for download.

That person was caught, arrested by the FBI, and went to prison.

I distinctly remember photographs of GTA IV's map and manual appearing online. They were removed from the fansites shortly after, and we were prohibited from talking about it on the forums, but I do remember it happening.

Here's a (not very good, admittedly)link: http://n4g.com/news/127860/gta-iv-map-for-ps3-leaked

Better link: http://www.gtagaming.com/news/comments.php?i=1219

Dear God! We're not still prohibited from talking about that, are we? I didn't just get myself banned, did I?

I was (partly) wrong. Only the map was leaked. Not the manual.

I can't even find the text of Rockstar's official statement on the GTA SA leak quoted on this site.

The "Rockstar employees do not leak" assertion can be made "true" by banning any discussion of an actual leak. If no one can talk about it then it didn't happen!

I wasn't talking about me personally. I'm talking about the community and guests alike having to sift through endless "My dead great uncle's half-sister's child's son-in-law who werks for Rockstar said..." nonsense.

And the disclaimer is legitimate under the bindings of the employees' contractual agreement not to leak info.

relocked.
