He speaks the truth people. Been a LOT worse. Still, it's not buzzing like it will be when we get some actual info. When that day comes it will be hard to keep up with the topics.. You'll refresh the page and then oh look theres 3 more pages of unread posts!

There is not much to discuss anymore, just about everything has been discussed not just once, but multiple times. you should've seen how it was in june, people were losing hope and this section was dead save for some crazy theories and people claiming they know when we will get info..

Well, I believe he thinks it's peculier because we actually have news to discuss, but we're not. Before the announcement it was just people making predictions with no backround info, so I don't think that counts.

CONCLUSION: The sad thing is that Rockstar marketing will probably learn the wrong lesson from this and starve us some more. They are probably saying to each other, "Geez, we finally gave those litte snots some more info, some great screenshots, some new settings, and it just killed the forums. It just goes to show, we should have continued our very successful GTAV Campaign of Silence strategy. Well, we will go back to that strategy noiw. They'll be lucky to see anything more from us before July 2013."

I am pretty sure absolutely zero R* employees are saying that. Are you honestly suggesting that they give even the slightest sh*t that a fan forum isn't getting as much traffic as before? lol

I wasn't using "You must be new here" in litteral means. Before posting I did see that there join date was in Janurary, does that re-enforce that fact that they've been here for a while?No.

I think the mods insistence of locking topics frequently might have contributed to it. Sometimes I feel they are too quick to lock threads just because they get heated. I was in a thread recently that was locked, but at the same time some idiot members were the cause of it too.

I can't speak for other mods, but I'll tolerate it to a degree unless it gets really out of hand.

 

Speaking from the other side of the law I noticed this forum picked right up when the screenshots were released, but it seems to be tappering off a bit now.

 

Rest assure this forum will go through hot and cold periods right up until the game's release.

As already said, people are tired of seeing the same repeat topics over and over again. I don't go on the forums as much as I used to -- maybe only an hour a day on average nowadays. I still see repeat topics where the original was created just a couple weeks ago.

 

The other reason is people are coming here when R* says there'll be more new info -- so expect the forums to be more active within the next few weeks.

I think a major contributing factor is that globally people are going back to school. That will definitely cause a sudden drop. But people also feel that the screenshot week was very satiated and they can wait for the next round of updates "in a few weeks" - rather than sitting around here and not discovering anything new given Rockstar's statement after the last batch of screens.

 

The quality of the threads have also gone down during this period. The contents of the interesting ones goes over the top of a lot of people's head and gets pushed down by the stupid ones, which get the most replies. People who only really visit GTAForums to read topics sort of develop a negative feeling towards it all by looking at these sh*t threads and their replies. Not saying all of them are, but it seems like the numbers have jumped up on them.

Precisely.. Just within the last hour or two I've seen some pretty sad topics come and go; and this is happening daily. It's all good though, info is on the way. Those who actually want to 'discuss' the game will have the chance, versus those who start flame wars and want to argue about who's more of a gangster in real life lmao. It never fails to amaze me!

There's many possibilities to this, 1. School is starting so many people here must be in college (some colleges start near the end of August) 2. They won't be back until Rockstar talks "in a few weeks or so"

haha, our college started 2 weeks ago. I still have some extra time to visit this fourm Hoping to find something cool, or have a nice discussion.

Lol same here. I'm on achedemic probation right now bc I failed an intro to c++ class so it's been homework, homework and more homework for me. I have to keep all my class averages above 70 or I lose my grants. It really blows. The only free time I get anymore is about two hours a night in which case I'm usually spending time with my wife or playing Xbox. I get on here maybe 3 or 4 times a week to pitch in my two cents or see if there's any new word on V. Assuming most people on here are really 17+, they're probably doing about the same and if their not in college then they're probably working. If not one of the two, then they're unemployed/in a slump or they're one of these spam-posting 10-13 year olds that try to make attention whores out of themselves. The good posters have minimum time to post due to having a life while the bad posters have maximum time to post meaningless BS because they don't have a life. GTA means a lot to me, but my family/friends/college mean more. Don't worry though buddy, it'll pick up when people have more time and/or new info comes out. Let's just agree that trailer 2 will be a bombshell for this forum.

There's many possibilities to this. School is starting so many people here must be in college (some colleges start near the end of August) 2. They won't be back until Rockstar talks "in a few weeks or so"

- Schedules being too busy to put up with R*'s silent marketing hype driving nonsense.

 

- The silent marketing approach is most effective in the summer when people have less to worry about.

 

- Getting nothing V related whatsoever is very off-putting to a fan base who just came from a 10 screenshot binge.

 

- We all know what "a few weeks or so" can mean, and we aren't about to sit around and learn that boring lesson twice.

 

We just have to keep being patient. Less than two weeks left until "a few".

Rockstar gave us information, and people lost quite a bit of their interest. The silence was working quite nicely for them.

Yep, for sure, some good topics that had more good potential discussion have been pushed off the first pages, sadly. I have thought several times about going deeper into the stack to make a relevant point for some of them and bring them back to life. But then I get sidetracked reading all the stupid sh*t on the first page...DOH !

And this is the root cause of a lot of the problems -- the weird, irrational 9 month gap after the Trailer, and the continuing uncertainty and unpredicability of Rockstar's "marketing" strategy. No, I'm not going to forget that.

 

Yes, I was grateful for the new screenshots, and now I have them on my PC wallpaper to make me happy, but what kind of situation is it when a company's enthusiastic (future) customers and hardcore fans have to beg and plead for info and turn on each other, and then after so much suffering, we are compelled to feel a release of gratitude for a few scraps, brushed randomly from Rockstar's table.

 

Why can't things be more normal? It doesn't make me feel good. I look forward to the (hopefully near) future when I will be very happy as the info starts coming in regularly, like it did before MP3, and in the months before GTA-SA and RDR.

Favourite songs, food, discussions about the current weather (For each members country/region/island) just a whole bunch of Off Topic communications.

However, When Info was released, We'd leave the off topic crap and jump onto discussing the fine details of a screenshot.

 

Maybe my memory fails me but I don't remember any complaining about Trees and random sh*t for San Andreas/Vice City.

It was always positive, something alone the lines of "Wow.. that car has lights on it's roof, I wonder if we can make it flash" etc etc.

Don't get me wrong though, I believe that it is important to "Push the envelope", however, from all the GTA games I've seen, Rockstar have pushed the envelope so far that its on Planet Mars right now.

Lol. Yes I joined with this account in January, but i've been here since 07(stayed here for almost 2 years straight from IV announcement-08. But I left after IV was released.

It's like me saying your new here since you just joined on the first trailer day, most people lurk around for ages before they find themself joining.

 

I know there has been times like this in the past, I'm just pointing out that at the moment I think it's so dead.

It's clear you are trying to make fun of my deluded existence, but you fail.

 

I've been here every single day for the last freaking 10 months, and a lot more back when IV was coming.

I am allowed to feel the fourm is much more silent at this point, and I'm only talking about the period AFTER the last screenshots was released, because that's when most people dissapeared.

 

And yes, I have some spare time. Cause I've read almost every single page written in the official fourm, you know it's not hard to do so within a year, unless you have some reading dissabilities.

I've been thinking about what Adriaan said about most people going back to school. When the screenshots were released this fell in line with the summer break didn't it?

 

I don't mean this in a derogatory sense, but most people who visit this forum are of highschool age and with them not being bored out of their minds out on their break and heading back to school you only have to put two and two together.

 

If R* decide to release more info during the Christmas period this forum will pick up again.
