Police Radar Circle? should it change?

We saw a change from the GTAIII series in how we get away from cops. In Gta III we raced frantically to a pay'n spray. In GTAIV we hauled ass out of the radius of the police circle.

Did you like the way GTAIV handled the police chasing you within the radar circle? why or why not? what would you change?

I wish it'd go back to the classic way to be honest because it felt harder than the current way and it was fun driving there once you figured out how to get there without a GPS, but I have a big feeling they'll stick to this new method.

In GTAIV should this be changed or should it stay the same? do you like GTAIV's cop radar circle or not?

I like the classic way. In IV it was way too easy to escape the cops. In SA I would have long 6 star chases.

I believe we'll see something much like the system we had in IV, but with the necessary tweaks. I felt it was a natural step forward from the III-eras way of handling it. smile.gif

yeh i agree. i like the old way. i know that using a pay n sp ray is unrealistic but i think it is a lot more fun than having to just get out of a circle on the minimap.

Geralt of Rivia

I say keep it like GTA 4.

I don't know why you guys say it's too easy. maybe on 1 or 2 stars, but there's so many cops that getting close to one will reset the whole circle.

It's fine like it is

I like this method, because in the III era (as far as I know), when you got two wanted level stars or more, the only way to get rid of the cops was using the Pay n' Spray, and that was kind of a tedious method, and this new method adds realism, too (that doesn't mean I like realism that much, it's just a game isn't it?)

Hands down, the post i have quoted says it best. Maybe instead of a circle it should be a triangle.

I like the new method, since it is more fun than memorizing the route to the nearest Paint 'n' Spray or Bribe. If it's below three stars, you can take a chance gunning it and escaping the circle that way. Above three stars and you can be a bit more crafty, swapping cars and sneaking out of the search circle. One thing I'd like them to add would be the option to get into the boot of a car when it's parked at a red light, and then escaping the radar circle that way.

I never really paid attention, but apparently if you change cars whilst having police after you in GTAIV, and no cop saw you, the radius size decreases a bit.

I like the GTA IV way. What I'd like to see is the return of spike strips! Those were so awesome in Vice City (especially if you had the special taxi that could "jump" over it with its hydraulics).

Changing cars can remove the search radius entirely as long as you escape it without drawing attention to yourself by driving erratically, running red lights, etc.

haha, triangle. That's a good one

I find the GTAIV was good but sometimes even at 4 stars it felt too easy. I like having heated cop chases but I found if I drove in straight line long enough, I would eventually lose them. I would like to see a system where you would have to evade the cops and actually lose the cars that are physically chasing you rather than a static radar perimeter on your mini-map.

You mean like China Town Wars? I'd love to see something like that, nice idea

Kent Traffic Cop

The old system was better.

The new system is just plain stupid... "Oh he's not in the circle anymore, guess we should just give up looking for him, even if he did just shoot someone in the face." How ridiculous is that?

Up to and including 4STAR was easy to get away. The only good feature was the new Pay 'N' Spray system whereby the cops weren't "blind" anymore and you couldn't go in there with them watching.

This is a great thread. I don't like ANY of the previous methods of evading police, but the radar circle in GTAIV is the better way, except that it needs a major overhaul. I say KEEP the system, but instead of an unrealistic amount of patrol cars just spawning up, including on the wrong side of the highway, they should slowly increase as long as you remain within their scope of vision, and slightly beyond.

I want to be chased and cornered, but also have options to hide and escape without them "magically" knowing where i am without seeing me. If i can hide, the radar should drop to a minimum, but remain at a one star level until you get to your safehouse, or a clothing store, where you could change your clothes. Switching cars would give you an opportunity to get back safely, unless you did something to get the cops attention, then they would notice you as a wanted criminal.

I never liked that cops would just stop looking for you because you outran them. You should have to work to stay out of their sight, and sneak to your safehouse. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it makes your actions have consequences, and adds more to the feeling of a realistic open world.

I think they should add the Red Dead Redemption wanted system. It worked well and was more realistic in terms of the "law" being able to chase after you again for the same thing. I.E. - In GTA IV, if you got out of the area in time, the wanted level would go away and a cop that was chasing you could just roll right by you afterwards and not even notice they were chasing you five seconds ago.

I like the new system. I hope they will keep it like that. I don't know what would be the point of switching off on an old system again... If you don't want new things, keep playing the old games.

exactly, It was definitely a better solution than driving all the way to the other side of town just because I accidentally side swiped an old lady into an office building.

I remember pushing through cops violently in GTAIII to get into the pay'n spray just have them leave you alone like nothing happened haha. I would like to see some better ai when sneaking away from cops instead of them mysteriously gravitating towards you like 73duster mentioned.

Keep it the new way. The classic way is sh*t.

The old way will never return. Games are most often moving forward rather than reincarnating the ways of the past. I mean do you like the way GTAIV handled it? and why? what would you change?

I have to agree. I see Red Dead Redemption as something R* will borrow from for GTA V and this is one of the things I liked.

In GTA IV it was stupid that when out of the circle cops gave up looking and in real life that doesn't happen. dontgetit.gif I liked the old system better but as other posters have said R* will build on IV and won't take a step back so to speak.

Can you even escape cops above a level 3 in older GTAs. I could never seem to escape unless i found those cop cars

All you had to do was drive into a Pay N Spray.

Agreed, as soon as you reach the second star theres only one way, to pick up a star or to sprint to the paint n spray, harder but so so boring, i think they should improve the police ai and nothing more i feel that is both funny and more logical to have an radius.

This. You need to be wanted 'til they catch you. Also if you're being pursued in a car, you should also have to switch cars. It's stupid that you can get out of the circle with the same sports car, and then run into a cop 30 seconds later after you lost your wanted level and not be wanted even after escaping 4 stars.

the one thing I hated is you could go into an alley completely unseen (IE:NOBODY alive on the street.) and yet the next cops to come/spawn into the circle would always be able to beeline it straight over where you are. that needs to be fixed, it was terribly annoying. Yes I understand, you are in the search radius, but they shouldn't automatically know -exactly- where you are.

there should also be a -wanted- tag on the vehicle you're driving, so even if you escape the search radius, cop cars within that island/metropolitan areas will detect the flag on your cars, and attempt to pull you over (or, if your wanted tag is a higher level, engage in a pursuit.) say you escape a 6 star radius, cops will auto-flag your car in any area of the map if they see it/the license plate.

Solution?

Pay & Spray.

go to a customize shop, get your plates randomized.

steal a different car.

buy a different car.

say you get flagged in a car you already own? drop it off in a safehouse, let it sit for a while (1 ingame day.) It'll be safe to drive the next day.

Say the Police see you on foot, you get a wanted level and escape the area. wanted level 2-4 will be an island wide search/check on people matching your "description"

IE: Shirt colour/style, pants colour/style. haircut, race, shoe colour, odd outfit (IE: special outfits (chicken suit, burgershot outfit, military/S.W.A.T gear, etc)

easy way to deal with this?

change your clothing, haircut, makeup, etc. you'll be safe if you re-equip said clothing after 1 game day. or if you sleep in a safe house overnight.

1 and 2 star crimes (not weapon related: IE bumping int a cop car, assaulting a ped, theft.) can be paid off at the scene of an arrest, and can get your wanted removed. however, some cops may not be willing to do this. The chance of them accepting the bribe is different per area, as well as what you wear. In a tux in the business section of Los Santos? bribe the cop and they just might treat you like a respectable businessman. Wear dirty thug clothing however, and you will be more likely to get booked for bribery, it gets in depth, adds more strategy and calculation to the game, as well as yet another way to spend your money.

I hope so getting out of the police radar was a fun mini game itself and added some vital info as well as stealth to the game

Maybe a few tweeks on the police radar circle actually, Like putting a different colour or making a wanted level stars around the rader where the health bar is.

Probably gonna get called a Retard for even suggesting this.

Do you guys remember Driver, all cops were marked with their respective field of view on your mini map.

A hybrid of this would be awesome.

Like an Elliptical Cone of view and noise.

No? Ok.
