I'd like more of a "psychological" loneliness  biggrin.gif

It's lonely at the top ... bored.gif

I want to be the big boss at the end of the game, with all the almighty dollars and almighty cash flow colgate.gif

But I don't mind being a hands-on micromanager crime boss, who gets out there with the hoods in the street for a little action. Maybe after I complete the game, my leisure time hobby is to jack cars, kill cops, create massive damage/chaos, blow things up and shoot pigeons.

That's how I relax after a hard day of authorizing hits, planning drive-by raids on rival operations, and making underworld connections so I can extort the Los Santos power players for even more power than I already have.

Personally I'd like to be a crime boss by the end of the game, or in the beginning, then lose it and get it back again. Either way I'm gonna get my hands bloody so I might as well use the money I earn and start up a business.

A crime boss, with the ability to order deaths and purchase large areas of the city, renaming buildings after myself and having radio personalities talk about what a great, charitable soul I am. We've been hired guns before, it's boring. We need to take control of Los Santos.

Voted for Hired Gun because: Hired gun = More Action. Pretty much.

Carl wasn't the crime boss at all, Sweet was.

I chose hired gun.

Working your way up to be a crime boss would be pretty cool. Pretty much everyone summed it up for a crime boss. There not really out on the streets were the action is.

Overall, we did see Tommy Vercetti who was a crime boss, but worked his way up to get there. Would like to see that in V.

Both. How? The story.

You are old boss, who is taken down by some bad people and they take over your things. Then you slowly get back up by being a hired gun.

GTA fan from the United Kingdom

I enjoyed being a hired gun in IV, but would prefer to be a crime boss in V for a change

Crime boss definitely, since Niko was always doing peoples dirty work, I think it's time the tables turned a little.

Here's what I want. I want to be the big boss instead of being a sheep all I the time.

Here's how it could work. You have a crew that does missions for you per se. You call which crew member you want to use and he comes to you. There's a cut scene describing the mission and so forth. Then, the control switches to the crewman and now you are free to carry out the mission. Fits the multiple protag element and twists story lines together. I think its pretty solid.

We won't need to choose.

Multiple protaganists.

Person out for revenge. Hired gun. Crime boss. Street gang member.

I don't need to prove anything. The evidence is out there. It is up to you to prove otherwise.

One character can not fufill a role bigger that Niko's story. And GTA V will be a progression; doing something more that GTA IV.

We are not going to get another protagonist who is a street level gang member, and owns a house is Malibu, and is a registered pilot, yet still steals TV's from houses. Multiple protaganists was a successful experiment in GTA IV, and completed that games story. It is now time for this to be part of GTA V for the start, otherwise the game could not expect to be a larger experience than GTA IV + its DLC's. I doubt Rockstar are going to release GTA V knowing that more characters will be DLC; the only reason that worked so well for GTA IV was that it was unexpected. If anything they would release additional characters, with 'Vanilla GTA V' already having multiple. If Rockstar do the same DLC again it will be a retread, and Rockstar North doesn't strike me as the type of developer who wants to be obvious.

So, what do you have to say against that?

with the risk of sounding like everything i hate; i like being the hired gun like in previous games, but i fully expect something different.

i couldnt disagree more with people saying "i want ____ just like in SA" or "i hope that they use the ____ from IV"

if you want the old games, buy the old games. i want them to come up witH something new. if we all wanted the SA features, IV would never have been made and all would be lost now.

I think it's better to play as a hired gun, but I like the way it was in Vice City, which Tommy did some hired gun work but also became a crime boss alien.gificon14.gif

Hired gun... There is no fun in being a Boss if you just sit on a leather chair and smoke cigars all day

Go from hired-gun type to running your own empire through the course of them game. Similar to VC and SA.

So that's it? Surely there are more choices that are possible. How about something other than a hired gun or crime boss for a change? How about an ex detective? Possibly fired or retired? He seems to be an older character, not exactly someone who is going to be going around running errands for someone, and trying to get a promotion in some gang of thugs.

Anyway, i'm ready for something with a different twist for a protagonist. He could just be a guy who unwittingly becomes embroiled in a battle between political and criminal factions. They could also include corrupt police officials, environmental activists and "Wall Street" activists. There is a lot more to life than the overplayed "mafia" scenario. Rockstar is very clever, and they can make things interesting by going in a different direction. I hope they do.

Start out as an errand-boy, gradually progress to hired gun. Then, as your respect builds, you get higher and higher in the criminal hierarchy. Suddenly, the big boss is assassinated, and you fight for the top spot. You then find out that the person who had your boss killed was another member of the organisation, and you exact revenge on them. Eventually, you establish yourself as the leader of this empire, and start rebuilding it after so much was torn down. You then bring down your rivals, and rule LS.

That'd make for a super long campaign...

The question wasn't "what background do you want for the protagonist"? It was whether you'd like to become a boss of your own empire or remain a hired gun for the whole game.

I can't believe that people don't like to be crime boss because being a hired gun is more fun than sitting in a chair and giving orders? This is GTA, of course that you'll have to get your hands dirty. Look at Tommy Vercetti, or even Tony Montana.

If I'm honest I'd prefer to be a hired gun. In Vice City we were a mob boss, and it didn't really make sense why we were doing these crazy missions if we were deciding to do them ourselves, rather than at the beset of an unreasonable boss.

Mostly the characters end up as a crime boss. I think the only exception was GTA IV. So it would bring variety to just let him a hired gun.

Although I don't think that's the right name for it. Claude was a hired gun, he did missions for people and not because of himself (only the last few missions were to take revenge). Tommy and CJ did do things to take a higher position (sometimes they were forced to do something, but they didn't had a choice). So I hope the motive of this story stays: make your life better. And if I hear the trailer, I think it will be that.

Also it seamed so easy. Tommy bought some fabrics, knocked some guys of a motor and suddenly he was the king of Vice City. And CJ did killed all the Vagos and Ballas himself, but still Sweet is the real gang leader.

Vice City got boring at the end. Plus once you become a crime boss the only way left go from there is downhill. The next step is to get stabbed in the back by one of your under-boss' and then it becomes a crime management game. Collect money here, send Tony on assignment there, smoke cigar etc...

The ideal would be a hired gun who works his way up to crime boss. Or crime boss who loses everything & has to become a hired gun again. Or multiple protagonists. Or not.

I wanna see a crime boss scenario for once, kinda of getting tired of beng some dumb ass hired gun that takes orders running around like a moron. I want to be able to control sh*t, just like ol' Tommy V back in Vice City. Purhaps R* should take note from the 'Boss' off Saint's Row and make a character like that. I want a crime boss that calls the shots, not some guy who holds his employer's dick while he takes a piss.

Both sides can be fun.

Boss:

Like in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, you could train your crew/assassins, then let them do sniping moves while you're freeroaming and/or send them on heist missions and gain money from it.

Hired gun:

Much like Claude or Niko Bellic. Playing both sides of the fence, no commitment to a certain side. Can be fun, too. Letting opposing parties go to war while you yourself profit from it.
