GTAF Minecraft Server

No, I want a simple tutorial in plain language here on the board for the very specific install we do, because that's the only way we'll ever get Rown to give it a shot.

You just download the FTB launcher. Which can be found here. It runs like a separate game, so your normal client isn't affected at all. Everything is saved in a different folder as well, so your vanilla minecraft files are 100% safe.

I don't know which pack we are going to go with, so it depends really on Kirsty. Though I would prefer the Direwolf one.

It's these packs that I don't understand. What exactly is the difference? Why isn't there a global one?

Different mods are included. Some have more then others. The Direwolf one is probally the best, since it has a good mix of mods, and it doesn`t include gregtech.(Thank god for that). People have different play styles, or prefer playing with any magic theme items. Or they really want to play a my little ponycraft.

Is there one that will allow me to spawn 100,000 Orcs (only me btw) and attempt to conquer the map, only to be stopped last minute by 2 midgets and their assortment of friends?

When you download the Launcher go to the Private Packs button here:

And then type in the following code:

Direwolf20_1_5

Secondarily, if we're using a new map we should Biome'O Plenty enabled, it's disabled by default but easy to turn on.

With the Direwolf20 1.5 pack selected simply click the Edit Pack button:

And then enable Biomes'O Plenty by selecting the mod and pressing the enable button:

I'm more wondering what the actual difference between packs is. Like, what mods are involved, what they do. Why is Direwolf good? What is enabled?

Err yeah. Figure it would be easier to use a 1.4.7 pack, since they are all out front.

Different packs have different themes. One of the packs, is devoted to magic. All of the mods that are included revolve around magic(A mod that would be included, would be Thaumcraft), no machines or anything that can be considered modern. Another pack is the opposite, includes mods that are about automation(Buildcraft and industrialcraft) and no magic at all. Then like I said, the one about my little pony, where you character is a horse. Then there are packs that make the game more challenging, like Magic farm, which makes food extremely important.(IE if you starve, you die). And of course you got packs that make take a bunch of different mods, to just have a pack. There is Ultimate, which has the largest amount of mods. Direwolf`s pack, has a bunch of mods that he enjoys, and then he makes a video around that. That playlist I linked, is him playing through minecraft with the pack he designed. It`s a great way to learn how to play.

If you want to see all of the mods that are include in the 1.4.7 direwolf pack, here is the link.

He has released a new pack for 1.5, but it`s still in beta. Though he did say that the pack is stable, just don`t be shocked that something changes when he adds a few mods into it.

If the biome update will be 1.7, maybe we should just wait till then for a new map. Also, even though I've only been on this server like 2 months, I'm kinda attached to it. Just the settlements scattered around the map, all the abandoned houses in the wildness. My vote is no on creating a new map, or going to FTB.

Maybe a good way to solve the inactivity problem, is to have more people able to promote newbies. I see that many newbies come on and ask how to leave Dilwood. You tell them they have to wait for Kirsty to be online. They eventually get bored and leave. Maybe if we have a few people who can promote, this will bring new members. Obliviously not every newbie will be promoted instantly. The promoters will have to have good judgement to make sure they don't grief etc. Thoughts?

Well Direwolf is the one with the most mods, other than Ultimate. Ultimate contains something called Gregtech, which to make a rather large f*cking understatement, makes things insanely hard; for example a diamond pick takes about an hour to make.

Regardless of that though Direwolf's pack has the most mods and is the most up to date one, so I and I'm assuming Moth would reccomend that to any newcomer of Feed The Beast.

To anyone who couldn't follow the pictured guide I posted, here have a video:

I think we'd all like a brief rundown on the primary features of these packs. You just keep alluding to big changes. Give us the highlight reel here.

Right, in order to do that I'd have to physically show you in the packs as there's over 8000 new blocks, items and abilities added to the game.

I could give you a run down of the basics for the DW20 pack though on the server itself due to me being able to use the chatbar in Minecraft more easily, or we could use the TeamSpeak if you wanted me to give you guys a more detailed rundown.

Once again, I know I don't play a lot but I think if we tried FTB I'd be way more active

I think we'd all like a brief rundown on the primary features of these packs. You just keep alluding to big changes. Give us the highlight reel here.

Craftable spawners

Tree and bee breeding.( Allows you to get different colour woods and fruit with different trees. Bees can be used to get honey, and other items. Both have a 10% chance of mutating into a new breed of tree or bee.)

Jetpacks(Legit flight)

New weapons and tools.(A hammer that digs a 3x3 hole in stone, or a shovel that does the same in dirt are examples of tools. A sword that swings slow but does a lot of damage, or a fast sword that does less damage are examples for weapons)

New types of armour.(Includes power armour that you can make better over time)

New ores and blocks in general.

A new dimension(Twilight Forest is the one, massive forest that stays in twilight. Bosses to be fought here like a Hydra)

Craftable dimensions(Mystcraft allows you to make an age, based on anything you like, if you have the proper pages)

Quarries, that allow you mine large areas over time, but require power.

Other machines that make things quicker to get. ( no more waiting for 10 minutes to get a few stack of stone)

Furniture(Ie desks and book shelves that take books)

And there is more.

This is based off of the new pack that Direwolf has put up. BTW

Such as magic like Aurs Magicka (allowing the player to craft and build their own spells)

Thuamcraft (adds way too many awesome features like little golem slaves that do your work for you, and staffs that dig through the earth, shoot lightning and replace blocks for you)

Tinker's Construct(an awesome mod that allows you to build your own tools and customise them to a crazy extent, such as making them out of paper infused with lava and allowing them to grow tall grass when you've got twenty or more gold in your inventory, yes you can go that crazy)

And a tonne more I can't remember right now.

I believe it's either in, or planned to be added very soon.
