Elliottallen
In GTA IV, the sound was pretty good. But, do you think they will improve on it much? For instance, screams didn't vary too much. You noticed them repeating, and they weren't very unique. However the sayings of the peds were hillarioius if you listened. There were so many. There's always new sayings that you hear, and they usually have nothing to do with what happened. You'd bump into a guy and he'd be like "I haven't had me any chicken today!" Other than sayings, what about the sound quality. The explosion sounds were kind of poor. Thinks could definately sound better in my opinion. Idk what do you guys think? Adriaan
The quality of the sound was pretty, pretty, prettyyy good. Hollywood quality. This was very evident if you hooked the game up to a proper 7.1 surround sound system. But even through tv speakers, it was pretty good. As for pedestrian VO, it's improved with every iteration so far, so who knows.
Meezarawcks
IV sound was great. V sound will be great. End of story.
dinoSAUR230
Well, I hope the cars don't all sound like vacuum cleaners *coughDiRTcough* I'm not bothered about full HD surround sound as I don't have 10 speakers or a home cinema. But some optimisation options would help those with different set-ups, TV, Surround, Stereo, Etc, like Battlefield 3.
Adriaan
Maybe there could be improvement on the engine start ups. In GTAIV they all sort of shared a very quiet generic start-up sound. They should add more variations among the vehicles, like: Edited August 31, 2012 by Adriaan
ll rdny ll
The sounds in GTA IV were decent, (besides the vehicle sounds) I hope there's a way to change the levels of different sounds in the Audio menu this time around though. The gunshots in IV are ridiculously loud. I know it's realistic, but come on I shouldn't have to turn the sound down almost all the way so I can avoid waking up everyone in the neighborhood when I play. Elliottallen
Yah the Menu sound was a bit strange to me. Like when you moved your cursor and it made that....sound (don't know how to explain it). Also when you picked up a weapon it made a similar sound. I think they should make a... less weird sound for those types of things.
Lock n' Stock
I liked the sound when you picked up money. The weapons sounds were good, but could be improved. The screams could be as well, perhaps giving each pedestrian a unique set of screams. It would take a while but it would be worth it.

So it could easily be done.
BlackLightning
I f*cking hope so. A lot of the cars (namely super cars and anything that was supposed to have a V8 rumble) and all of the guns sounded like sh*t.

Sorry buddy bud I need them to be loud like that, it just makes guns feel so powerful and realistic. You should turn down the sfx bar
calahan59
if they have to improve the sound in gtav, it will be for bikes engines. They dont sound pretty well, i would love to have an engine sound like that More agressive, with louder bass. GTAgamersquirrel
Vehicle sounds need a major overhaul, and as far as weather sounds are they just import the weather sounds from RDR.
theworldfamous
The ambient sounds and random chatter was great, but guns didn't sound quite right to me, it should be a fatter sound. I know that's not realistic, but it's better. And agree to the vehicle sounds as well. The engine constantly revving high gets a bit annoying and just doesn't sound right. But they're small complaints, the rest of the audio in IV and still some of the best I've heard in a game. It really sounds like NY.
Adriaan
It really sounds like NY. Yeah they perfectly captured the squeaking brakes (seriously, why don't people in NYC service their breaks... even people in their expensive BMWs and Mercs). While in IV that was all cool, perhaps they should remove it from more newer cars... like I dunno, brand new ones you steal from car dealerships . Yeah like the NRG 900 in San Andreas, now that sounded mean as, but for some reason the same bike in IV sounds crappy and generic.

I was more talking about the way sounds echo and the ambient soundscape, like in between skyscrapers or the sounds in the subways.... a lot of the individual incidental sounds could use some work. The brakes need a general overhaul, imo.. as does the acceleration..that all seemed a bit off.. too much traction control when taking off and the braking too hard when slowing down. I guess that squeaking sound came with that.. just like the overrevving engine. But I'm still working on my 'the most perfectest GTA evarr' essay. Car dealerships are definitely in.. now you come up with deteriorating cars... mind if I steal that?
Evil.Tim
There's two things you're looking at here. The sound effect quality and the amount of lines the random NPCs have. I'm sure GTAV will improve in both of these segments.

When Mikhail Faustin falls off the roof of his cabaret club, his scream is just a generic one from the NPC's. Maybe the voice actor didn't want to ruin his vocal chords.
