countrymike84
Perhaps Rockstar is emulating the outer suburbs of Los Angeles instead of the city ..then poof instant countryside like in GTA SA. Los Santos being same size of LC and the suburbs same size as Dukes-Broker.

mickawes
Rockstar major arguement to justify there were no planes in gta IV was that there was only one city. If they don t change their mind, as long as we have planes, we have more than one city. but i m pretty sure it s noy san fierro or las ventura. and fortunately ! 3 bigs cities means we xon t have mich of countryside

I just looked them up on Wikipedia since to get a quick idea of what they are like. As I have said, the state of San Andreas is great because the cities each have unique things to offer. Santa Ana As others have mentioned San Diego would offer nothing much of itnerest that Los Santos cannot provide. Las Venturas and San Fierro, however, would be great cities to include/ These are obviously not in Southern California but I thought the whole fictional state of San Andreas with these three as the main cities was pretty awesome considering how diverse they are. What San Diego does offer, however, is a border to Mexico. Drug/people smuggling missions?

Sanjiswaytocool
That's correct, you don't. Good one. There's basically nothing worth mentioning in San Diego that isn't in Los Angeles. San Diego has no character. It's boring. Most people can't name more than two things that have to do with San Diego - the zoo and the Chargers. That's it. Rockstar's not going to dedicate any significant space in a game this important to a bland location like San Diego. San Diego....Boring? Nothing more than the Zoo or Qualcomm/Chargers? Hmm let's see, Balboa Park, Sea World, Gaslamp, SeaPort Village, Petco Park, Del Mar (Which isn't that far away), Mission Bay Park, La Jolla Coves & the Seal Beach, San Diego Bay, Point Loma, Coronado. There's much more too. A better argument would be, "San Diego won't be added because what it has to offer is nearly identical to what Los Santos has to offer." Well, you get the idea. Choco Taco
Rockstar has never shown the entire skyline of a city in the first trailer for a GTA game. This picture from the trailer covers the entire city of Los Santos. The camera is in the east by an oil rig, so it's safe to assume there's no more city behind it. Mountains are to the north. The ocean is to the west and south. That can't be the only city. They wouldn't reveal it all so early.
isselman2000
Yeah, it has been told that it's only gonna be Los Santos and the surrounding area. But judging from screenshots - the game area will expand far beyond from Los Santos and Orange County. Where are you going to fly the planes? Doesn't make sense flying a plane within Los Santos area alone. So what other cities and towns might be included? San Diego? Bakersfield? Fresno? Sacramento? Oakland? Or even San Fierro and the northern part of California as well? How about Vice City too? Oh, and maybe London?

JuankAirPilot
It won't be areas like Anaheim, Long Beach, etc as they are really part of the LA metro area. Los Santos already has its own metro area, aka Mullhouland, Richman, etc. I could see Bakersfield, Victorville (aircraft graveyard), Palm Springs, Santa Barbra and Escondito or maybe a San Diego type city to the south. **before I get flamed, I know Anaheim/Long Beach/etc are their own seperate cities, but what I mean by metro area is there are no country side or fields separating them from LA, it's all filled in. I see a larger region of Red Couny from SA, with smaller cities such as Montgomery and Palomino creek just more spread out and re-named.

Tipper
This is a clip from the trailer. It would seem a bit odd to have a freeway that didn't lead to another town, right? Well, Plumber's Skyway in Alderney in IV circled around the island, just like Union Drive circled around Algonquin. But the more posts I read in this thread, the more I change my mind. I'm still convinced there will be at least another city (not necessarily a huge city, but something more than just a village), Houser's interview gave it away unintentionally. The problem is, I can't figure out which city could be included. SF and LV are too big and would require an aaful lot of work and time. Smaller cities around LA aren't interesting enough. I have nothing against San Diego but it doesn't have much to offer that LA doesn't. Plus both cities rather look alike. If you show me a random picture of both LA and SD, if there isn't any famous landmark on it, I will have a tough time knowing which is which. Is it not about ignorance, San Diego just isn't well known worldwide, unlike LA. Tijuana or any other mexican city close to the border could be interesting, add a little variety. One thing is sure, R* are hiding something, for the first time, they didn't show who the main character is (and I'm starting to think there will be more than one, even though I'm not a fan of the idea), they say it's their most ambitious game ever but what they showed us so far doesn't seem unbelievable, and they are being vague in their interviews about the location. I think they've got something big coming, something that will blow our minds. I hope so at least.
koothara
There should be at least two cities with airports.Otherwise planes are pointless and unusable.I strongly believe that there will be a second city. What if V is a next gen game and includes entire San Andreas?.Next gen consoles are said to be releasing on Q4 2013.GTA V maybe a October 2013 title.Being a next gen game solves space, size and graphics problems.Keep in mind that Sony officially admitted there are next gen games already in development.Almost all major gaming companies already purchased the DEV kits.Remedy CEO said in an interview they are 6 times more powerfull than current gen and he is very impressed with them.Taking in to consideration R* is not announced any platforms it could be a 2013 next gen game. dimitrispgr
There will definitely be other cities than Los Santos. Very Smaller, like vilages. 2 or 3. NO San Fierro, NO Las Venturas. SOMETHING LIKE San Diego. There cant be a large city in the South and only mountains and countryside in the North... They have to somehow balance the map. That would make a nice topic. How do you think the map will be structured.

isselman2000
In the parachute picture, we see the bridge right? How often does Rockstar put a bridge going over a body of water, and you are still in the same city when you get to the other side of the bridge ? they did before No they didn't. Vice City, guys. Vice City. Besides, California has plenty of small bridges that aren't the Golden Gate.
darkplague
why is it so hard to believe that once you get through the large city of Los Santos, through the expanse of land that is Red County, and across the vast desert and towns of San Bernardino county, that waiting for you on the other side could be Las Venturas...i mean come on ...this is "...Southern California and its SURROUNDING desert, hills and countryside..." San Bernardino can not be counted in SURROUNDING because it is a part of SoCal... I think San Fierro is slightly less likely to be included in that carefully worded definition due to being a bit further from the technical definition of "SoCal" but if it was, it wouldn't be too far from The Truth.... [Edit:] Just another note...what better city to expand the use of money? Edited September 3, 2012 by darkplague

FranticFatality
GTA IV had no planes because there was only one city, R* said that there was no reason to have planes because you could only take of from LC and land again in LC. Now we see that there are planes in the game that we can fly, so why should R* only make 1 city? because the city will be bigger and there will be countryside and hills... Death2Drugs
I'll give my 2 cents. SAN DIEGO: The most plausible one. San Diego is a major city of California and the United States. It is a major port city, the city which marked the birthplace of California in the Gaslamp District, and being the gateway to California make it an integral part of SoCal. There are some good landmarks to recreate, such as the Gaslamp, Downtown, Old Town, Mission Bay, and a USMC base. Something based on the Jason Russell incident would be great. TIJUANA: Tijuana is another big city. It is roughly the same size as San Diego, and is home to many parks, some new business buildings, a busy port (though in nearby Ensenada), and also a gateway to the Western World. A realistic recreation of Tijuana would be nice, rather than a stereotypical third world sh*thole, we get a faithfully recreated minicity like LC was on New York, and LS will be in V with LA. Tijuana also has some slums housing transitory immigrants, some new suburban areas, and some beaches. SAN BERNADINO San Bernardino is a fairly major city of Southern California, housing some office buildings and 209,000 people. Interesting note about it is that it is the 2nd poorest city in America (behind Detroit), hit hard by the recession. It would be a perfect area for some missions here.
