Courier.rar
If you haven't seen the latest Grand Theft Auto V Screenshots, you have to check them out. http://ow.ly/d9M3M https://twitter.com/NVIDIAGeForce/status/238335572802957312 Okay, so out of nowhere Nvidia, a major GPU manufacturer, just tweeted about the most recent set of GTA V screenshots, why does this matter? Because they only tweet about things related directly to them, IE game devs they've made advertising deals with, or people wanting to buy their products. They never tweet about console exclusive games, mainly because they have nothing to gain from it. Could this mean we'll be seeing a PC port of GTA V? Mint chocolate chip. As long as I don't have to wait six months or more like with GTA IV, I'll be happy. Hell, I'd be happy waiting two weeks like with Max Payne 3. Ryan
I saw that on Facebook earlier and wondered the same things. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come cause I'm sure as hell not buying a console just to play the game.
Adriaan
Hah, I actually know the guy who runs that! Andy Burnes. Trust me, they don't know which version it's from. They're just excited as we are. I would also like to comment that Rockstar have always made it a habit of explicitly stating so whenever they release PC screenshots, as is evidenced by the run-up to Max Payne 3. Their reasoning I would assume is to avoid backlash by their biggest market, console consumers, who would be outraged when they finally get the game and they find out Rockstar had used a superior platform to showcase and market the game. Whenever they release PC screenshots, which is really a long way off, they'll explicitly state it I'm sure.

Adriaan
But yah, apparently there are differences in the two platforms when it comes to things like jagged edges being more evident on a certain console platform in comparison to the other, so that is why you'll see some differences throughout the months to come as they release more and more assets on the game. I honestly laugh whenever a news site, like The Independent, comments that these screenshots MUST be from next-gen hardware or PC. Can't wait to see their reactions once R* actually shows a PC version...

People that had AMD graphic cards were screwed on the release of GTA IV because High-End cards could it only run on low-mid settings while user with NVidia cards could run the game on mid-high settings. A friend of mine had a AMD graphic card and he was mad on the release of GTA IV. Gtaplayaminigun
Nvidia wouldn't be tweeting about that if the game has nothing to do with PC I guess. I seriously hope they won't sh*t in AMD users' mouths. Edited August 22, 2012 by Gtaplayaminigun
Adriaan
@Carl CJ Johnsons Brother Brian That's not to say that Rockstar won't utilize licensed technology from Nvidia for a PC version of the game, like DirectX11 Tessellation: http://www.nvidia.com/object/tessellation.html (as used in MP3). I'm sure they've learned from the past and will do a proper PC release, like they did with Max Payne 3, targeting a wide range of hardware setups with plenty of user control in the game settings. They're just excited as we are. But I think the point people were trying to make was that Nvidia tweeting about a game that's not slated to come to PCs is unlikely. Of course most of us were sure V would be on PC too as non-portable GTAs always were but that does seem like a confirmation for those who somehow wanted to believe it wouldn't be - if any such person exists, but that's another discussion. Trund
Well Nvidia needs to hype the game now. I mean after all R* managed to get it to run on the RSX Chip in the PS3, probably one of the worst GPU's ever built into a gaming console.
Adriaan
@baguvix_wanrltw I agree, this doesn't shut down the possibility that a PC version of GTAV is in the works. But as Trund has said, the tech behind the PS3's gfx card is from Nvidia, so that could be the connection as well... Kirsty
A lot of games recently I've noticed (e.g. Max Payne 3 and Skyrim) were marketed on graphics cards websites during the build up and release, it could be a hint that they are getting ready to be in on it with GTA V as well now. It wouldn't surprise me if we got a worldwide release date with PC on the same day this time.

But as Trund has said, the tech behind the PS3's gfx card is from Nvidia, so that could be the connection as well... considering that these screens are not from the PC version as I understand it. I'll just say I heard one version is somewhat superior (not much) over the other when it comes to consoles. Why didn't they tweet about Uncharted 3? For a console game it looks pretty damn good, and it was running on a Nvidia graphics card.
Adriaan
Yeah, considering there are titles that looks better than this running and confirmed to be on PS3 (Uncharted 3, The Last of Us), it shouldn't come as a surprise to know that GTAV's graphics are powered by a console. It's also worth noting that the detail in art of GTAV is also superior to that of GTAIV. The artists have certainly paid more attention on the ambient art on things like the homes. Red Dead Redemption had a dedicated Ambient Art team in SD, and it would seem the people who worked on GTAV paid more attention on this as well. That alone adds a lot of fidelity. Trund
Why didn't they tweet about Uncharted 3? For a console game it looks pretty damn good, and it was running on a Nvidia graphics card. Simple: Uncharted 3 was a PS3 exclusive game, and Naughty Dog is superior to R* when it comes to the PS3. However, even Naughty Dog wouldn't be able to put Uncharted graphics into an open world game like GTA, consoles are simply not powerful enough for this! By the way: It could be that nVidia is just a partner of R*, so they're just helping R* with the marketing. Expect to see a huge nVidia logo when you boot the PC Version. Yeah just wanted to highlight that the other games I have listed have don't have day/night/weather cycles and aren't open world... so that's why there's a limit on how far they can push ageing hardware when it comes to games like Grand Theft Auto. krspkbl
You're asking the wrong question. Of course there will be a PC port. The right question is when will there be a PC port? I hope that PC gamers get it on the same day or VERY close to console release (talking about a week at the most). It must be horrible waiting all this time and then find out you need to wait even longer.
james_root
We all know there will be a pc version but maybe this means the pc version will come out after 2 weeks after consoles like max payne 3. Because only this scenario makes sense to nvidia tweet about gta v. I think the PC version of Max Payne 3 came out later because they didn't want to rival Diablo III, and the game was made on PC for the PC so rockstar says. Afterburningwheels
I hope there will be PC version, I'm never gonna buy a console to play GTA on that console, not even GTA: V. Audiophile
Hoping there will be a PC version at release. It's all I want R*. My only demand for V. I don't want to have to buy it on my 360 or PS3 first just to later get it on PC where I will really enjoy it. I had to do this with IV. It sucked.
