Linki
In my opinion, the great thing about GTAIV's multiplayer mode is free mode. It's just you, other players, and the city. No gimmicks, no XP challenges, no useless additions that so many other online games have. Even Red Dead Redemption's free mode felt so much more restrained and clustered compared to this, and Max Payne 3 too adopted this problem - even though I understand these are different types of games. I guess what I'm saying is I like that it's very simple and bare-bones. If you've seen some of the unique and creative events users here have mustered up, you'll understand how much imagination is being allowed in GTAIV's online. I don't see that sort of creativity in any other online game. I think this is partly because most online experiences are stuffed with distractions for whatever reason, and this kills the simplicity and joy of what multiplayer is - playing with others. I really hope GTAV doesn't go the route of recent games, but it probably will. Scripted and stuffed game types and features will be injected, no doubt, but if Rockstar keeps free mode... free... well, I'll be glad.
B Dawg
Yes the MP FreeMode is one of the greatest things in game. It should have been available in Singleplayer aswell, turning off cops, no friends calling you, turning off traffic (because you can play it alone yet you still need internet connection) Can you explain how RDR's FreeMode was like? It was filled to the brim with various challenges, special hideouts, XP opportunities etc. It also had the posse system, which was cool I guess. It felt very different than GTA, but then again, RDR feels different anyway. But I prefer GTA's free mode much more.
Eagle-Eye
The FreeMode IS awesome. It could've been better though. What annoyed me was that It lacked Cars from Singleplayer. I'm looking forward to a RDR like multiplayer in V. Instead of Gang Hideouts, it can be Small stores/Banks you could rob.

That would be nice, but I'd like those activities in SP aswell otherwise V would be focused on MP too much.
A J
Good post Linki. I agree and disagree though. I think the simplicity of GTA IV as a whole is awesome, it's unbeatable, but the lack of stuff in free mode at the same time does make it a little dull, RDR introduced some good stuff, like the posse system no doubt will feature in V, probably called the gang/crew system , gang hideouts most probably replaced by turf wars against NPC's, that can also be battled over with rival crews / gangs in the same free mode session. However there's got to be a balance, over-loading the map with activities would kill that simple enjoyment that IV brought us. I just hope V doesn't go the same as RDR or MP3 have, neither have really gave me the same buzz as IV. RDR had bad hit detection, whilst MP3 is just a third person COD wannabe as far multiplayer felt to me, small maps and many freeze issues. Anyways so long as Rockstar includes Cops N Crooks in V, I'll be happy.

I can't wait to see the stuff players organize with that game.

Guest
i'd rather GTA V uses a system similar to APB. But not as restricted as APB. Instead of forcing these things on the player they should just be options on the side.
