End to end of map in real time

Well I've been playing Just Cause 2 lately and all I have to say is I rather have a smaller map with more detail like GtaIV rather then a large map with isolated areas like in Just Cause 2. I would like to see a map similar to RDR in term of size.

I just crossed the RDR map from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. I used one of the fastest horses and the infinite stamina cheat and it took about 10 minutes. The main thing I noticed is how perfect the size of the map is. You can make the trip, but you probably wouldn't want to travel that far if you have other options. 10 minutes is a long time in a game, especially if you're just traveling. If it was too much bigger, the trip would seem impossible.

And JC2's map was too big and uninteresting. I probably would've loved that game if the city was more dense like GTA IV, and if the shooting mechanics weren't complete sh*t.

while watching the trailer i realized either the Draw Distance is gonna be amazing in GTA V or the map is short as hell

user posted image

Now in this pic notice that the Hills back there seem very close to the Pier its either an illusion on the games Engine or the map is really small or moderate.

P.S. i don't know how to resize pics in this forum

You wouldn't think those hills in the background are the end of the map, right? Behind those hills is where the magic is going to be rolleyes.gif.

Let's get one thing straight, GTAV WILL be bigger than Just Cause 2! sly.gif

Anyway on topic, It took me about 7 to 10 mins to cross Just Cause 2 map in the fastest jet, so in GTAV I expect to take around 15 to 20 mins! biggrin.gif

Well I HOPE! inlove.gif

I'm surprised this is such a big debate. I mean, does it really matter how long it would take to cross the map? Just as long as the map is HUGE and there's plenty of sh*t to do in between, I don't care how long it takes to cross it. I do know the Mercenaries 2 map took forever to cross. Let's just hope there's plenty of fast cars, boats, planes and helicopters if that's the case. 'Nuff said!

I hope it will take 48 hours to cross the map by car (in-game time). I don't know how much 1 in-game hour in GTA IV corresponds to real time but if you know you can make the calculation.

1 hour = 1 min.. so about 48 minutes... wouldn't be bad if it had trip skip... I'd like to be able to make actual Road Trips

That's all I want tbh, enough room to have Road Trips online, i think about an hour in real life would be a bit too big.

First San Andreas ever took me 10 minutes to drive across.

You don't need to respect speed limits in GTA. suicidal.gif

I can't really say in terms of minutes just HOW long it should take. The longer, the BETTER. Map size is one of the most anticipated things for me. I'd like it to be lengthy enough that air travel is not just for fun, but almost a necessity.

No, it would be 96 minutes. 1 hour in GTA is 2 minutes in real time.

How long should it take to go from one side of the map to the other? Well, how long's a piece of string? ph34r.gif

Anywayz, it's not about how large the map is, but how well the space is used. So no more than 10 mins IMO smile.gif .

I want a city I can get lost in

Maps that are too big to memorize with plenty to do

And Back country that i can find myself in the middle of Bumfuk nowhere.

That being said I want a map that takes at least 30 min to cross corner to corner by car and 20 side to side.

For those of you who keep insisting that a large map is not a necessity, think again. One of the best things about the GTA experience has always been taking in the environment. Remember the feeling you had the first time you played GTAIII? I guess i should only speak for myself, but the thing that i was most impressed with was finding new areas to explore. Every time i thought i saw everything, i just kept finding more space.

Obviously, there needs to be detail, but Rockstar has never failed in THAT department. Anyway, i've looked forward to seeing how much more we had to explore with every addition to the GTA franchise. Simply knowing that this will be the largest ROCKSTAR map to date, is exciting to me. Story and character development is important, but has always been secondary for me. The real hero in the GTA universe has ALWAYS been the environment. I hope that the map is big enough that even after several months of playing it, we could STILL find things that are fresh to us on the map. For those who find the length of time too tedious, there has always been a "skip" option.

Just to speculate how long it might take to cross the map end to end in a car in real time. I'd say San Andreas took around 8 to 10 minutes by car from Los Santos to Bayside or the desert airstrip, without crashing ( or stopping to mess about on the way for the hell of it ) but obviously the new map will be far bigger so I'm hoping for at 30 minutes this time round or maybe even more, that would mean even a jet would take 10 minutes at least to cross the map.

Im playing SA at the moment, it takes longer than 10 min, especially if you take it round rather than horizontally, and i think it takes less time in RDR with a horse not a car.

The reason why GTA IV remained small and couldnt compete about Maps with Modern games was that the City was just beautifully detailed. While JC2 is huge but it wasn't that detailed as IV and R* did said it was their first shot at an HD Open World game so i expect GTA V to be detailed as well as BIG.

OFF TOPIC : anyone heard how big is Hong Kong lately in SleepingDogs?

What if the map is huge AND incredibly detailed? Don't make too hasty conclusions.

Bigger map doesn't mean better game. Vice City had the smallest map, and it was the best game.

You must be kidding. 30 minutes? That's like Just Cause 2 if not longer. I don't know. I don't have this game. tounge.gif But there is no way that it'll take 30 minutes to cross the map in GTA V. You'll have to deal with big disappointment, my friend.

I agree with CJB, because the drive would be pretty boring.30 minutes..no way dude. But nice idea. icon14.gifcookie.gif

Well from I last remember it took me about 8-10 minutes to cross San Andreas from LS to SF, from LS to LV about 5-7 minutes. In RDR from Tall Trees to Southern Mexico the spot where you see the horses on the map it took me on the Kentucky Saddler 10-20 minutes.

LA Noire if the map wasnt like steps it would take about 15 from Downtown to North Hollywood.

LONGEST DRIVE I HAVE EVER TAKEN was in Test Drive unlimited in the race that took all the way around The Island of Ohahu in Hawaii, I was in a Maserati Mc12 doin 135 consitenrly and it took me 30-60 minutes that sh*t was crazy.

LONGEST WALK I HAVE EVER TAKEN was in RDR I walked from Tall Trees to the Mexico border that took almost 3 hours next was Fall Out 3 end to end map walk took 5 hours

for both I left a rubberband on my controller and checked in every 20 minutes with my iphone stopwatch in hand.

So to impress me R* should at leadt make it 20-45 mins intersecting,

2-3/12 hours going around the map.

Anything the size of San Andreas and Red dead redemption i am happy with. And its already confirmed to be the biggest open word they have created. So i cannot lose.

Whatever. It will clearly be more. Or possibly less.

I forgot how long it took in Red Dead from the top right of the map (or Tall Trees) to the bottom right of Mexico.. but if I had a guess I'll say double that time

From Blackwater to Escalera=26-/+ min with a good horse

erm... I know exactly what race you mean, because I have the game and I did it, but I think it took like twenty-something minutes confused.gif
