Even if the map is 3x libery city, It would take less than 30 minutes dude.

I think I remember some magazine saying IV took 5 real minutes around the whole city in a boat. Double that for V? Maybe triple. The bigger the better.

You must be kidding. 30 minutes? That's like Just Cause 2 if not longer. I don't know. I don't have this game. tounge.gif But there is no way that it'll take 30 minutes to cross the map in GTA V. You'll have to deal with big disappointment, my friend.

Thats in a Jet on JC2.

Here he's asking how long it would take a car, there won't be any straight point to point roads that span the entire map, so including turns and deviations on the way, it could very well take 20-30 mins in a car. Assuming the map is big enough.

Maybe about 20 minutes as it would get boring going back and forth between places.

Really, when I play IV on freeroam, thats practically all anybody does, goes back and forth to places, for hours on end.

It never gets boring.

while watching the trailer i realized either the Draw Distance is gonna be amazing in GTA V or the map is short as hell

user posted image

Now in this pic notice that the Hills back there seem very close to the Pier its either an illusion on the games Engine or the map is really small or moderate.

P.S. i don't know how to resize pics in this forum

Hmm, I wouldn't say rely too much on the trailer. Not trying to go too off topic: but after seeing the images(unless they're old images, which is highly unlikely) I'm convinced the trailer was enhanced, including the draw distance. Though in the screens the draw distance is so good it shows hills in the distance and you can actually see the details on the skyline of LS far away instead of just color, I'm still not going to say it was as good as in the trailer.

No, i'd say JC2 takes a good hour, if not more, to get from one corner to the other. (if you follow the roads correctly.)

AFAIK JC2 is an Island.

Technically it's a lot of islands, but most have bridges across if im not mistaken?

It takes about 16 minutes to jog from Grove Street to the San Fierro garage - give or take, I timed it years ago. I think people overestimate the size of San Andreas' map; it would only take about 25 minutes to get across the thing on foot, and far less than that by car.

30 minutes from one side to the other by car would be absolutely ridiculous. 15 minutes would also be ridiculous. We'd be lucky to get a map that takes 10 minutes to cross when driving.

IMO, a map that takes 10 minutes to drive across would be nice, but like this: If you made a straight bridge across the map and drove at 80mph and it took you 10 minutes to get from N to S or W to E, I'd love the map to be that size.

In GTA IV, I did several runs from end to end of the map (diagonally, which is the longest possible straight line), I did them with the Comet, the fastest car in the game, and drove as fast as I could following the roads suggested by the game. I got an average of 3:45 minutes. For GTA V, I know that it'll be bigger than San Andreas, but I haven't done that experiment with it. My bet goes for roughly 10 minutes. Anyway, map size isn't what makes a great game, and I'm sure GTA V will be a seriously GREAT game, so map size must not be a worry.

But we're not talking about straight lines, we're talking about corner to corner following the roads. Note that the complexity of the roads is also a fact that determines how large does the map feel, which is why you want to include it on the timing.

I hope it will take 48 hours to cross the map by car (in-game time). I don't know how much 1 in-game hour in GTA IV corresponds to real time but if you know you can make the calculation.

1gta hour = 1 real time minute.

1 gta minute = 1 real time second.

48gta hours = 48 real time minutes

WOULD BE AWSOME IF THAT LONG WOULD TAKE TO GET TO THE END

Longer, way longer than 30 minutes.. Just Cause 2 is very big.

I already would be statisfied if it takes about 15 minutes in realtime from one end to another end.. if there is even an end on a side (like infinite desert instead of water) if it's not an island this time.

There's a limit to everything bro. Overdo it, and its gonna taste sour. Having a map at least equal or 2 times that of San Andreas is fine.

For people who say...."I don't want an over-sized map as it takes forever to get from place to place"

Did none of you use the taxis in IV? Or the stagecoach in RDR?

General talking i want the map to be colossal so it Should take 10-12 Minutes from the fastest Jet and should take about 30 Mins from the Fastest Land Vehicle i enjoy huge maps

The Bigger the Better.

That was true for past GTA games, but in GTA IV they doubled it to 2 seconds equals one in-game minute, and I believe RDR slowed down time even further.

Even RDR has a huge map and lots of space with nothing ... I prefer a map with high quality and large (SA)-filled spaces of vegetation, rocks and the odd tree wow.gif

When you say "nothing" do you mean "no buildings"? RDR was filled with detail.

Yep!

However long it took the Hydra to cross SA, about the same time the fastest jet in V will take to cross it.

Where do you find blue whales?

A.) Inside Atoms.

B.) Inside Goldfish bowls.

C.) In the Ocean.

Between 15 and 25 min. across.

RDR is the same as IV.

1 in-game hour is 2 real world minutes. So a day is 48 real world minutes long.

I say 10 min.

You guys are too obsessed with map size. If it turns out to be the exact size as SA I'll be happy because it will br much denser.

I'm more worried about things to do in the map rather than its size. IV's map size was tiny but has worse there wasn't much to do in it
