Has RDR ruined the 'fresh' experience of V?

When IV was released, I couldn't believe how great the graphics were. So fresh and life like. One of my first thoughts was - imagine what a re-vamped San Andreas would look like in these current gen graphics, with detailed countryside and deserts and so on. Then came the V trailer which completely blew me away with how amazing it all looked.

I just started playing RDR a few months back and fell in love with it. The landscapes were beautiful with great views spanning over the vast desert and woodland.

Now I'm kinda regretting not waiting till after finishing V to start with RDR as the whole RAGE countryside/desert won't feel so new now. Obviously the map/layout will be different, but I'm just talking about the overall feel.

Does anybody else feel this way?

I Shot The Sheriff

I know exactly what you mean, but the brand new setting / atmosphere, the vehicles and the fact that the desert won't be too similar should be enough to avoid that... I think it surely will

Since when is GTA 5 set where RDR is.

I think he meant when it comes to an American West desert. I assume Death Valley in California is sort of similar to the desert areas in RDR which is comprised of various areas like Colorado and Arizona. The vegetation and overall look is pretty similar.

Did you read it? He said the atmosphere and everything like the country side will remind you of RDR when you play GTA V.

And I know how you feel OP but knowing Rockstar I'm sure they'll go beyond how great they did in RDR and make this look extremely better.

oh finally i can be happy to be a pc owner ... (well i use the pc the most )

never played RDR, i wanted to and was going to buy it.

i have a PS3 and also have played Max payne 1,2, and 3 on pc.

i think ill wait to buy RDR for the ps3 after i get GTA V, unless R* take forever.

i dont want anything to ruin the atmosphere of gta V , although it would take alot to do that for me as i am a GTA NUT

Redemption only gives us an idea of how much they improved the RAGE engine between 2007/2008 and 2010. Redemption looks much better than what IV does.

If that's the difference ~2 years makes then what will the difference be between 2010 and 2012/2013? I think V will look way better than Redemption does.

I think if you were to pander to concerns like this, you would have to miss out on a sh*tload of games to keep anything "fresh", very possibly all of them.

Nobody else feels this way, because Red Dead Redemption came a LONG time ago now, like over 2 years ago, everyone has already played it and completed it. You're very late to the party, I can't believe you have only just played RDR now.

Nope, I feel just fine, GTA V will feel fresh to me. I would only understand you more if you played LA Noire and felt that way. I did'nt play LA Noire, so it's all gonna be fresh and new for me.

@ noid449

Come on man, RDR costs next to nothing now. You can buy that for pennies now, it's been out a long time, don't be so tight. RDR is the best game this generation along with the Uncharted series.

Buy it right now!

It's a really good game. It won't spoil your experience of V in anyway.

I hope your right. But judging by the few shots we got in the trailer, the countryside looks pretty similar to that of RDR. I hope and think R* will make a fresh feeling regarding atmospere - afterall, it's not set in 1911!

@OfficialGeneral

Sorry Mr General, but not "everbody" has played RDR. And not everybody who has, played it "2 years ago".

But I'm not surprised you felt the need to attack my thread, as you appear to still have a grievance with the way I feel on ghetto-gangsta bullsh*t.

Exactly! It won't feel like Redemption. Two different settings. Redemption all country with little towns and set ~100 years before V which will be setting mostly in a modern city.

I think the graphics will remind of us IV but much more improved.

I agree. You could have gone into a coma after playing GTA III and wake up to play GTA V and you'd be thinking 'holy sh*t' for a little while but you'd have missed out on everything in between and that's more valuable if you ask me.

I don't see how GTA V will feel like Red Dead just because it's got countryside. It's going to have a totally different vibe to it.

It's definitely going to have a totally different vibe. This will all mostly be due to the different ways RDR and V will be handled. And plus the fact that the dynamic between horses and motor vehicles will be radically different.

I'm not really a huge gamer, just a huge R* fan, so I haven't really played much else other than a few racing/sports games.

I know there will obviously be a new feel to the atmosphere as this is a diffent setting/time. I'm simply talking about the introduction to a RAGE countryside in general. I wish I had let V make that introduction instead of RDR. GTA is the title I want to experience new things in terms of a sadbox game.

Psh it didn't spoil us, it simply kept us occupied. I still firmly believe on the fact that RDR is simply Grand Theft Auto in the 1900's. It was much more fun going to that time era instead of revisiting time periods we've already been in. I felt it was much more of a unique experience. smile.gif

i know if they would have made RDR for the pc i would have finished it already.

id be modding it , id have a 5 legged horse and a 4 armed gunslinger smile.gif

i dont hate consoles i just prefer the control system of the pc and if i want to use controller i just plug it in the pc :0

but there are just some games i have to bite the bullet and play on my ps3, because of this exclusive console games, and i just never got round to doing that with RDR.

i agree the playing of all the gta series, even if you prefered one over the other is a must. the advancement of the gaming engine and story line wether directly related is all part and parcel of what is GTA. to truely enjoy i think people should play all of them at least once.

Well if you took such a long time to play RDR, then you need to wake up if you call yourself a gamer. Most gamers have indeed already played RDR, especially those who also like GTA, I'd say 97 % of them. At the very least, most gamers would have played RDR at least within the last year. You have only played RDR now, and to me that's very strange, considering you like GTA and that RDR was highly publicized, it was a huge critical and commercial success - so much so that gamers still talk about it up until now.

I'm not having a go at for you for our discussions on that gangsta, ghetto stuff, that is a separate subject. See it how you want, but it's nothing to do with that. I just think it really is strange that you haven't played RDR up until now. Anyway, RDR is not based entirely on a Southern California landscape, it has elements inspired by of other areas of the southwestern and western USA - so no need to feel so sad that you 'ruined' your GTA V experience.

I'd say if you played LA Noire, consider your map-exploring experience of V not so fresh.

LA Noire didn't even use the RAGE engine. And I don't think R* will be making a exact replica of LA's streets. Besides, its a 65 year time difference. LA Noire was filled with white people and not so many minorities. Even the buildings and stuff. There was no downtown with skyscrapers! There's no airport! Beaches? LA Noire was a stripped down version of LA FROM THE PAST.

Same thing goes for RDR. We'll see even more changes from Red Dead to GTA V.

no no no R* always make something new and good for the benefits of next GTA games and RDR was an amazing experience and i really loved it.

and i'm totally sure we'll experience something new in GTA V and totally different from past GTAs !

I'm not really a huge gamer, I just love GTA. Of course I remember all the publicity surrouding the release of RDR, but the whole 'wild west' genre wasn't really my thing (something that has now changed thanks to RDR), so I didn't so much as batter an eyelid.

It was only after browsing these forums and reading how positive people would speak of RDR that I decided to buy it, and found the whole thing nothing but pure brilliance.

I see where you're coming from but I think the difference between the 2 games won't ruin the freshness, I mean in RDR you're riding around on a horse, listening to the slow background music, enjoying the scenery etc. but in V I expect it will be more of us going 150 mph down some tiny country road in a car too big for the lane and knocking people off motorbikes, while listening to some good music.

Well i finished RDR yesterday for first time....

I bought it march this year, but i didn't really like it and i was playing for very little and just forced myself to play it.. i didn't enjoy it at all... Only part i liked was those missions in end of game with your wife and son.. those were really cool and ending was great, but rest was really not my thing...

I just can't accept game without bikes and cars....

So no - ill wait for GTAV and read dead didn't do anything to spoil it....

Wow, how's the view?

OT: I can sorta see what you mean. Hopefully, V will deliver a sufficiently different experience of a countryside to differentiate itself from RDR. Nature probably won't be untamed or untouched as it was in RDR. Stuff like the wind-turbines, for instance, will give the country-side a more three-dimensional quality, if you get my meaning.

RDR is set in 1911 and 1914 so it's way different than GTA V. RDR is more about the old west with small towns and a big countryside. GTA V is set in 2008 and is going be more set in Los Santos than the countryside.

I found RDR to be completely forgettable, so I'm not worried about how it'll affect my experience with V.
