GI AU statement RE: Their cover

Yes I know this isn't strictly GTA-related, but in the light of the rigmaroll caused by this over the past week, I felt that this would prove interesting to many on here. This statement has just been posted on the Austalian Game Informer Magazine's facebook page:

 

 

 

To our Australian and New Zealand readers,

 

Last week I posted an update on this Facebook page explaining why I hadn't shown the cover of our upcoming issue as I'd usually do. I had organised to be part of the worldwide reveal for something I was not allowed to talk about and this small update was supposed to just build a little excitement amongst our local readers and nothing more - it wasn't intended to go further than this page. Instead it went viral and "the internet" decided to turn it into something it was not - gamers are truly passionate people.

 

Unfortunately, after promising me on multiple occasions that nothing would be revealed about the Call of Duty: Black Ops II multiplayer until the time our cover went up, Treyarch/Activision released a trailer a week in advance followed by a number of other announcements. So what started as a build-up to this hands-on/trailer reveal, has ended up being a build-up to something you already knew about. I would have told you straight away, but as far as Treyarch/Activision were concerned the trailer wasn't a reveal and in their minds I'd be breaking embargo.

 

I was looking forward to enjoying this reveal with Australian gamers, but in something I can only describe as a painfully stressful week, the occasion has been taken away from us and instead I have been dreading this moment. Due to the way this cover reveal built up in a lot of people's minds, I feel like I've let you down and for that I am sorry. I can assure you there is considerably more to learn from the article than what you saw in the trailer and hopefully those of you who are not interested in CoD will still enjoy the issue's other 92 pages of content.

 

So as you can, see the whole thing has been a bit of a mess all around.

TBH when the GI AU cover was first delayed I did think it was GTA. Earlier today I realised it was unlikely that it would be GTA and instead it would be some brand new game (most likely a game being developed in Australia). Finally when it was announced to be Black cocks 2 I thought it was some big joke, but now I realise it isn't and that both activision and GI f*cked us over yet again. This is some BS!

Regardless of your thoughts and opinions on the game, it is quite clear GI AU have worked tirelessly on the magazine, you have no right to go saying "oh cod is sh*t" because never once did they even give a slight inclination as to it even being related to GTA, it was you guys who blew it all over proportion, I am sorry but once again it all started on this forum.

It's cool that you like it but too me I see it as the same game for the past 4 years. I knew it wasn't GTA like I said but give us a real game that the company doesn't want to milk. They make it seem like it was a important game that hardly got's and info. COD has had so much info already and GI gets alot of money for doing it but also alot of hate for it to. Half Life could of been on their or Fallout for all I care but COD makes me think that GI doesn't care about gamers.

If you or anyone were seriously expecting HL3, then - frankly - you should wise up. It was never going to be. Nothing suggested it would be, not even GI. They said they had exclusive info on something, that's all. The hype was generated in the collaborative imagination of the internet. GI aren't going to benefit from this, so labeling them as bankrupt or villainous is a little bit silly to say the least.

 

@Raynos - This isn't now a COD:BO2 topic, but since you ask I'm not particularly following the development of the game. If it's good, I'll get it.

dude, you could say the same thing about the GTA fanbase cause it does largely consist of 12-18 year olds who are casual gamers as well (just look at this forum) ...

 

... COD is a good game for what it is a Multiplayer party game.

 

and R* north are not exactly programming geniuses either buddy its not like the GTA series is some revolutionary gameplay masterpiece. Yes, not even III is, everything R* did with III was done by other developers before and in a better way. GTA fanboys need to calm down, game mags don't owe us anything and R* neither.

 

the humor is what makes the GTA series so awesome IMHO. gameplay and graphics are mediocre so far at least IMO.
