What if GTA V is the last... in a box?

Personally, f*ck digital downloads. I downloaded DCUO the other day, and it took 2 days of downloading. It's bullsh*t.

And, I would miss the awesome moment of going to the shops, picking up the game and staring at the box and reading the manual, waiting to get home and play the game... makes you feel really proud that you've got the game.

Instead you'd be sitting there on your couch depressed that you have to wait two f*cking days to start playing.

If you have fast internet, digital downloads are not an issue at all. If you have slow internet, oh well for you. I guess if you can afford to buy $60 games you should afford better internet as well. I personally like digital downloads. But the only part i hate is how on PSN you have a limit of 2 systems now. And if 1 system goes bad and you cant deactivate the content, your down to 1 system. If that goes bad, all your content must be rebought.

But i DO enjoy having the box. It makes me feel like a truly bought it.

i can afford a $60 game, but i can't afford to have my entire town rewired to get faster internet. it's appaling in this town, seriously.

I have a 1Gb connection. It took me 2 days to download a 32GB file from Steam. And that was when I was home alone, so nobody else was sucking it down.

Not to mention throttling, etc. Completely digital gaming is just not practical now and might never be practical enough to do away with physical media.

And I have WLAN which should run with ~5MB but it never runs faster than ~300kb/s and even that is fast for my connection. It's usually even slower. cryani.gif

Uhh not true. We can afford the occasional $60.00 game because we save for it. We cant all afford an overly expensive faster internet connection every month. So there is a very big difference that you seem to miss

It wont be the last in a box because the internet in most countries is not good enough to handle everyone downloading their games after paying for them. Games consoles will eventually go down that route, you pay for a game and then download it. However at this time the internet connections are not good enough to handle everyone doing that, only a few million.

Not only that but the internet is getting cheaper but there are more limits. No longer is it unlimited, if you had to download a game every now and then you would have to get a pretty big package. Internet providers would have to start offering connections with no throttling and what not.

Triple Vacuum Seal

@OP

Games from the GTA series are pretty much the only games I give a sh*t about so I will certainly always collect the boxart; but I wouldn't worry about that since there will always be a market for GTA boxart from an artist's perspective.

I am very sure that if you want the artwork for every GTA in a tangible form, then you will continue to have access to it some way. Just probably not in the form of a CD box because CD boxes will be obselete eventually. I know posters will always be made too. monocle.gif

Sorry I'm too lazy to write down a reason for that:

I don't want all that:

"buy this game really overpriced on Steam (reason: you don't have to walk to a Gameshop) and then you HAVE to activate it 2nd times, install newest patches and create 2 accounts in Social Club and Windows Live and then you can save your game. but when steam is down and abandoned in many years, we laugh at you. haha. idiots."

I want a game in a normal box with a CD or at least any other removable media and want to activate the game normally one time, I don't want to be forced to create ANY internet account or logging into it for installing AND I want to start the game, independent from internet connection status.

Any of you guys thought about installing GTA IV in ten years? mh?? What's then with social club. And with Windows Live. Or the R* activation servers. Think about it.

I get my games through steam, but GTA is the exception, I buy the boxed version. The boxes are nice, and the manuals make it special. Remember GTA SA's booklet and map?

Strengths of GTA IS the boxart. I am pretty sure Rockstar will realize that. I would buy it - but it would be no where the affection I have for box art - which I look at and ponder daily.

well my speed is only 512kpb max, so downloading a 7 Gb guess how much it will take ?

In the best case 4 hours but really IN THE BEST POSSIBLE CASE so it won't happen because the speed can vary very strong. 5-7 hours to be on the safe site if not more. monocle.gif

I won't care if rainbows, ponies, and dicks were on the box art. Just to know I'll get my hands on the game, I'll be okay.

I don't know how people can preffer digital sales. I mean seriously, recently Valve and Microsoft added a no lawsuit clause in their user agreements. That's right. They can take away all of your games, give you nothing in return and you can't do anything about that.

Hackers are also a problem, if you get your account stolen you lose hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars/euros/pounds, and you can't do anything about that either.

In conclusion, while digital distribution is cheaper, it's much less safer than retail. So just go to the store and buy your games or order them online.

F*ck EA, nobody gives a f*ck about them.

Sony & Mircrosoft already confirmed next-gen consoles will NOT be download-only like it was rumoured, they will have normal optical disk drives just like this gen:

http://www.vg247.com/2012/05/30/report-son...nload-only-ps4/

AGAIN IN BOLD LETTERS.

SONY & MICROSOFT CONFIRMED THAT NEXT-GEN CONSOLES WILL HAVE OPTICAL DISK DRIVES AS USUAL.

Oh man, will I be sad if they don't have any box copies. My GTA collection from GTA 3 to EFLC have all been box copies, whether its the old school huge box to the modern dvd disc set. The art work that adorns the covers really sets the story, the city and the game atmosphere exceptionally well. I'm really looking forward to V's box art. There's more than just the game itself, the whole package is important to me and some gamers.

The industry is moving toward digital delivery: EA expects its digital sales to overtake boxed games

I don't have a big problem with the idea of GTA being only a download someday, but I think it will mean the loss of classic GTA box art.

A downloadable game's "cover" is more like an app icon. A simple image that's recognizable at a tiny size. The classic GTA multi-panel comic strip/collage won't survive because it has too much detail for something that's not going to be printed.

The simpler, more ordinary style of Rockstar's art for TBOGT DLC may be the future. cryani.gif

and i have a 2MB internet speed and 200KB download speed , it will take 24 hours or more so i can download games . sad.gif
