This is probably going to be a very short lived thread/poll but I NEED TO KNOW!!

A few times I have been shocked to find out there are people that have not seen Fast Times at Ridgement High. Today was one of them. I was shocked to discover that the young person(22) who we recently hired at work hadn't even heard of it.

Aside from this movie launching Sean Penn's* career, it very well may be the first teen highschool comedy movie. f*ck!!!! It defines and entire genera and I can't believe there are people that haven't seen it, or [worse yet] heard of it.

Unfortunately it is not available to stream from NetFlix because NetFlix sucks. You may need to look elsewhere for a copy.

*As well as other people's careers. Just check out the cast list from IMDB.

I'll just add one small personal side note. I have been wearing black and white checkered Vans since the first time I saw this movie. If you wear Vans and have not seen this movie then you owe it to yourself to learn how Vans made their way into the mainstream...that is at the very least. Movie is downright hilarious and a classic and you may owe it to yourself to see it just for posterity.

Edit:

Thanks mod who fixed the poll, but I think the numbers are reversed. Still love ya. smile.gif

I'm 20 and I've literally never heard of this. The title kind of rings a bell, but if I just saw it written down somewhere I wouldn't instantly know "Oh hey that's that film I haven't seen!". Anyway, I'm pretty sure the definitive high school comedy is now Mean Girls.

I am intrigued by Sean Penn being in it though. Does he die like in just about every other movie he's done?

Dude! You owe it to yourself.

'Mean Girls' might be the current definitive high school comedy of today, but Fast Times defined the genera. Oh...and how can you go wrong with a 1982 comedy. The sound track alone is worth it.

In all seriousness, anyone who has been to highschool needs to see this movie.

Thanks for responding to my f*cked up poll. Although, your responses just strengthens my sadness in how this classic is fading.

Over 20 and haven't seen it. Know of it because of a certain infamous scene by the swimming pool that has been parodied to high heaven.

Vanilla Shake

I'm 21 and this is one of the greatest films ever. Loved it since I was actually in high school.

"Aloha Mr. Hand."

I'm also a huge sucker for the soundtrack.

I'm 24 and I've watched it before. I always enjoy those movies about high school, since they tend to bring back some of the good memories of the times I had back when I was a senior.

My ninth grade English teacher was almost exactly like Mr. Hand in every way, except it was a woman. She was so anal about not eating food in her class.

I'm 18 and HAVE seen this film, and it is worth to watch. I literally enjoy watching old 80s films. Somewhy they have this magic and everything, even when the movie is bad.

Yes, I seen this on TV some time ago. Of course it was Penn that grabbed my attention. It's before my time. I'm 27 but I would love to watch it again. icon14.gif

I have to say that whenever I think of a High School movie the first thing I think of is Breakfast Club which isn't really a comedy but its sure the first to come to mind. Forget Mean Girls, that sh*t wouldn't even enter my mind if we were talking about good high school films.

As for this, I've never seen it all the way through - just bits and pieces through TV when its been on. I've always been interested in actually sitting down and watching it all now I could actually appreciate such a film.

I've seen it many times. I only really enjoy Judge Reinhold's character, and Spicoli of course.

Then there's this...

Never mind Fast Times, there are people who haven't even seen Animal House. I both envy and distrust them.

Never seen it, but like SIKKS mentioned know of it because of the famous scene parodied a lot. Got to try and watch it though. Might be 'bigger' in America.

What was that cheesy rock song that parodied the scene too? Something about somebody's mom...

I'm 24 and unfortunately I haven't seen it yet. I've been aware of the film for a number of years and would like to see it, but I've never seen it on television which is where I usually watch films.

This scene on the other hand, I've watched countless times. I even have it on my hard drive somewhere.

I only just saw that for the first time about two months ago.

Saw it when it came out in the movie theater with my dad. He is so homophobic that he took me to any/every movie that had naked boobs tounge2.gif .

As far as Fast Times. If any of you who haven't seen it plan on watching it - be sure to get the real version and don't just watch the cut up, censored TV version.

The Breakfast Club is the first movie to pop up in to my mind when thinking of a high school film no doubt.

And yep, don't even go there comparing an absolute classic like The Breakfast Club to a sh*t like Mean Girls.

As for the film 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High', I've never really seen it, but I should give it a watch someday for sure.
