Aaaahww, the first one was my favourite. sad.gif

I have yet to play Absolution, but it looks promising. I also skipped Contracts.

Contracts is one of the best. ph34r.gif

By the way, Hitman Absolution is on Playstation Store for £20 today. ph34r.gif

Contracts has some levels from Hitman 1 remade, I believe.

Walkthrough of Hitman 2 Silent Assassin on the HD Trilogy:

So they basically took the PC versions and ported them to the X360 (with the exception of "Blood Money") and PS3. This is not a bad thing since these games looked better on the PC anyway.

Got my copy today. Very nice packaging - the art book is a nice touch. "Silent Assassin" and "Contracts" are on one disc and "Blood Money" is on the second. It has a code for downloading "Sniper Challenge" if you already didn't get it before the release of "Absolution". I am in the middle of "Doom 3: BFG Edition" so I want to finish that out before playing around with this and start revising my "Hitman" guides.

I installed Disc 1 of my X360 set ("Silent Assassin" and "Contracts") onto a flash drive and played around with the training levels for a bit tonight. As I said earlier, they simply ported over the PC versions of both games and modified the controls for console use. If your first "Hitman" game was "Absolution", prepare for a culture shock. The graphics, while good, are dated compared to "Absolution". This is especially true for "Silent Assassin". I use the VGA cable and have my setting at 1,280 x 1,024 so the graphics are at their best. Even so, you can tell how dated the graphics are.

The one thing that bugged me the most in "Silent Assassin" is the music - or, more specifically, how it was encoded for this set. They did a poor job of encoding the music - it sounds like a worn cassette copy, especially when the music gets loud. Very disappointing considering how legendary this soundtrack is. I never turn off the music when playing this game but, because of the poor encoding, I may have to turn it off.

However, they did a much better encoding job on "Contracts". One problem though, the text can be hard to read at times. It could also be my display settings.

And I also forgot how SLOOOOOOW 47 walks in both games. After playing around with "Absolution" so much it was quite a jolt going back to the originals. In addition, both games share the Achievement List - about 500 GS for each game.

I just began playing the game (just began the first official "hit") and the music sounds fine enough to me. Maybe it hasn't gotten to the loud parts yet? The menu music sounds fine too. What I did notice is that some sounds clip (like Diana's voice in the mission brief). Turning down the sound volume in the game's options menu fixed this. Have you tried doing that?

It sounds better than my PS2's version.

So I've got no complaints.

And honestly, they're done a lot more than just ported the PC Version.

They've corrected a lot of bugs.

The only thing that annoys me, is how Diana has such an accent. lol.gif

I tried that. I even went to Composite Video seeing if my VGA settings had something to do with it. I also put on standard PC speakers. Didn't fix the problem.

Are you using Optical Out by any chance? My current setup doesn't do Optical. I've always wondered if that has to do with this kind of sound problem since I played "The Darkness" which has a similar, and worse, variant of it.

Have you tried using HDMI Cables?

I've been chilling the in 'meat locker' listening to this beautiful song!

It's nearly passed half an hour now.

I love the dark atmosphere of Contracts, how much I have missed you! <3

I don't have HDMI either.

As for the music:

Yeah, Jesper Kyd did some amazing stuff for the "Hitman" games. It was his score for "Silent Assassin" that drew me into the "Hitman" games. I'm disappointed that he wasn't able to do "Absolution" but hopefully he can do the next installment. I've also been fortunate to acquire all of the "Hitman" soundtrack CDs including the one for the movie (the best thing about that piece of junk).

Yes, I am. But it could be that you're just more sensitive to good (or bad) audio encoding? Yesterday, inbetween missions at the hideout (in SA) I thought I heard what you might be referring to. It sounds a little tiny bit like a cassette tape, but it's not nearly bad enough that it prevents me from enjoying the music. If I remember, I'll do a test to see if it sounds worse using analog audio.

Yeah, the music is awesome. Especially after you've just completed an objective during a mission, or changed into a disguise, it changes up and you feel like a total badass. cool.gif

All of my other games sound just fine, including "Contracts". It's just "Silent Assassin" and "The Darkness" that has this particular problem and "The Darkness" is a whole lot worse. When I wrote my guide for "The Darkness" I wondered if the sound encoding was made more for digital than for analog but didn't have the proper equipment to test things out. You and Mr. Reaper have been very helpful in answering this issue.

It sounds like this issue does crop up on Optical but not as bad as on analog. Still, I should start looking around for new amplification equipment that takes Optical and/or HDMI audio. My current amplifier has been around for more that twenty years and is a nice little workhorse but I should modernize it to take advantage of these new standards.

I planned to turn the music off but I realized that the music cue changes when you get close to a Guard so it would be more helpful to me to leave it on.

At this point I've acquired the Expert and Professional based Achievements. I've also acquired the "5 Silent Assassins" Achievements (which are stackable by the way). I am now playing it on Normal and focusing on the weapon collecting Achievements.

I am also trying to find the best place for the "Call the Caddy" Achievement. It turns out that you need to smack 18 people with the Golf Club in one mission and in one playthrough. I think "Temple City Ambush" might be a good place. Kill the Guards with firearms and kill the unarmed Civilians with the Golf Club but, since I haven't reached that point on my Normal runthrough, I don't know if there will be enough Civilians to get that done.

You would think that "Anathema" would be a good place but it is actually not. Too many armed Guards and they will kill you before you can get this task done - mainly because the Golf Club doesn't kill in one hit and they tend to fire their guns or hit you while you are trying to kill them.

I've captured the menu music using analog audio and HDMI. I personally don't hear a difference:

As you can see, I even had the music volume up on both captures.

I also captured The Darkness while I was at it (seems like we have similar tastes tounge.gif)

I haven't yet been achievement hunting on Silent Assassin, I've just been playing on Normal to get my bearing on the levels (again). I find it interesting to replay these levels now that I'm older and have more gaming experience. I'm getting the SA rating on levels that I used to really struggle with on my first playthrough 10+ years ago.

Wow. I didn't expect you to do that. Thanks.

I listened to both of them and I heard the problem in both. You can hear it when the music reaches a loud crescendo but not so much when it is more quiet. When it reaches a crescendo it starts to sound rough - maybe the highs got cut off during encoding, I don't know. All of the other platform versions - from PS2 to PC - sound great. It's just that IOI somehow dropped the ball on sound encoding for the X360. From what little I played of the X360 version of "Contracts" it sounds great. As for "The Darkness", this problem becomes more prominent in the end credits.

At this point I have acquired most of the Achievements for "Silent Assassin". It turns out that for "Call the Caddy" you don't need to kill all 18 in one mission. I killed a lot during some runthroughs on "Anathema" but thought that I got more than 18 which led me to believe that you need to do them all in one run. I finally got to "Temple City Ambush" and killed all of the Guards, mostly with the Shotgun. Then I went after the Civilians with the Golf Club and got the Achievement after killing only six of them.

Now all I need to do is find the one mission where I can kill at least 47 people for one of the other Achievements. "Basement Killing" maybe?

Yeah, I can hear it now you mentioned it, but in my opinion it's not as bad as you made it out to be, although that's completely subjective of course. I agree that it's disappointing and we should expect more from an "HD remake".

At least now you know that it's not your sound system that's the problem.

I agree that it is not that bad but it is still noticeable. "The Darkness", especially the end titles, is a whole lot worse. BTW, because I was focused on going after the Achievements and trying new ideas for my guide revision, I mostly tuned out the sound problem. The reason this issue irks me is because this game has one of the best soundtracks of any game I've ever owned and the lousy sound encoding is like greasy fingerprints all over this fine piece of artwork.

I've also finished acquiring all of the Achievements. It turns out the the only place to get 47 kills is indeed "Basement Killing" as there is precisely 47 people in that mission. As a matter of fact this is also the best place to go after the "Call the Caddy" Accomplishment too because since you are going after the 47 kill Achievement you can go after that as well. Bring the Golf Club, Ballers, and 9mm Pistol with you. Drop the Golf Club at your starting point. Kill the Guards with firearms. When they are all gone then grab the Golf Club and kill the Civilians with it - there should be more than enough to get "Call the Caddy" (22 actually). Then go into the basement area and finish everybody else off to get 47 kills and the second Achievement.

I've also found an easy way to acquire the Custom Rifle from the mission "At the Gates" so you don't have to wait until the last mission to get one. I've been trying out some new ideas on other missions too which will make their way into my latest revision.

I downloaded this from PSN the other day. I only got Blood Money and Silent Assassin. I was going to only get BM, but SA brings some nostalgia.

I completed BM on Professional the other day as well. I've never seen BM look or sound this good. A huge upgrade from my PS2 version. Playing it again brought even more appreciation to the game. It really is near perfect, and definitely the best Hitman. At the end of the game, I let 47 be cremated - Absolution never happened.

The Hitman Trilogy is now available on the PS store for FREE for Playstation Plus members. Couldn't be happier right now! Playstation 3 only though.
