OXM UK: GTA V Lead Character COULD Be a FBI Agent

only just got around to reading it. Interesting speculation, I must say. Not so sure whether I'd like it, only cause R* would make it an interesting take on the undercover genre. I read some more articles on OXM by this dude and he sure loves to speculate and he's as gullible as some of the members on here. He repeated that bogus cars for V in MP3 rumor so that's an indication he's not exactly smart.

His big evidence is that casting call that went out. Which I have to admit, reads like a list of Rockstar characters. But it's still a rumor. It may be a hoax, it may be from Rockstar. But even then it could still be a distraction. It's obviously a partial list and none of those FBI agents read like a protagonist to me. Nobody on there really.

Looking at the possibilities for a moment, from a story perspective, this could be made to work. It could be that circumstances conspire to draw him into a life of crime. Perhaps he gets framed, forced to work outside the law in order to take down the antagonist(s). There are all sorts of ways to devise a workable plot based on this sort of premise.

The problem is that this all stops working once the player is in free roam mode. I can't imagine a law enforcement protag, corrupt, fired or otherwise engaging in indiscriminate carjacking, murder, theft, mugging, assault etc. It just doesn't fit.

A plot like this would work as a movie or a non-free roam linear game. But I can't see it fitting into a GTA framework unless there's something utterly genius in the story we haven't thought of.

As far as the article goes, the joining of the evidential 'dots' is tenuous at best. Its pure speculation and as such the conclusion has to be taken with a massive bag of salt.

I can't comment on VCS having never played it.

well, he was a soldier but got kicked out because of something (i forgot), so the FBI agent being fired then becoming a criminal is be possible.

This is pure rumour and speculation. They make reference to the casting call but from what I remember that surfaced in spring last year but by that time all of the major roles would've already been cast. In recent interviews the guy who played Bill Williamson in Red Dead Redemption said that they auditioned just prior to christmas of 2008 (for a game that was released in summer 2009) and the guy who played John Marston also said that he was only notified by his agent at the last minute (obviously Rockstar only told the agents of people they liked the look of at short notice to maintain secrecy). These statements suggest to me that if that casting call is legit (and there's no evidence to suggest that it is) then the characters listed either aren't major characters in the game or only have a few lines i.e none of them is the protagonist.

For a different frame of reference, Michael Hollick worked on Niko Bellic for 18 months, give or take.

And GTA IV was originally meant to be released in Autumn 2007 so that would mean that the latest he could've worked on the game would've been the spring of 2006 meaning that he was probably cast over two years prior to the release of the game. I'd say this time around Rocksdtar were more used to scheduling and stuff due to the other titles they've worked on since IV so my gues is that the VA for the protagonist was cast in late 2010.. several months before the casting call appeared.

Unless you're like Mike from Breaking Bad, where you have aquired a unique skillset being a top notch law man, then something forces you to leave and you put those skills to good use working for the bad guys cause you may need to put your grand kids through college. You then work your way up the ranks.

A dirty ex cop could work and in fact I think it would work quite well. We know that the Rockstar guys like Breaking Bad due to the Mobile Meth Lab story in GTA IV which couldn't have been just a coincidence. That story also shows that the news articles are one of the last things to go in.. it makes sense due since they want them to reflect real life events that are happening in the time setting of the game and also because the news contains information about missions which could be leaked.

Wow, what an argument " Seems rather too scientific and coordinated for a mafia operation, doesn't it?"

Actually, no. It does not. And I don't see a reason why FBI Agents should rob a building like that. I don't see a reason why FBI Agents would rush into a bulding like that at all. They're disguised which implicates there has been a phase of planning where they thought disguising would be a good idea. But if they had time to plan no government agency would send three men in pest control outfits....that's just silly.

Secondly, the game is still called Grand Theft Auto. You're supposed to to things you're not allowed to do. The idea of an FBI Agent constantly breaking the law (without the possibility to break the law as much as you please without long-term consequences it would rob the games spirit) is dumb as fcuk.

Seriously...this article is the dumbest sh*t I've read in years.
