GTA V Control Scheme improvements? (tl:dr?)

If any of you have played most/all of the games the mainly 3D and some handheld R* releases you might understand better what I'm talking about here but while playing MP3, a little toked up, I had an idea.

To me Rockstar seemed to take some general mechanics of a previous release and implement it into another-game-down-the-line's design. I first noticed it in San Andreas, which had a very famaliar stealth/stealth kill system and auto lock-on reticle, if you had played Manhunt. I think it was the mission where you're sneaking around in the mansion, in my I thought of Manhunt being influential on scripting and designing it the way it is. The GTA III-era Grand Theft Auto games obviously had more of everything all around, for the most part, each new incarnation.

The Warriors game, which I thought was fun and to this day in my opinion is the BEST movie-to-video-game adaptation I have ever played, seen, read about, or heard about. It also inherited some of Manhunt's blood, stealth system, but it had a pretty badass fighting system for the time, still feels good to play it now and again on a PSP if you have one. And Bully later on had some pretty good fighting that had you improving your moves as you went along, you unlocked more throughout the game.

Some say that GTA IV doesn't have a lot of content, well I tell in a year or less, average grade PCs will be cheap and so will the game, you can mod the f*ck out of it. Granted, it crashes from 1% of the time to 50% of the time when I play since I have *too*many* of them installed for it to be stable. But, the point is my PC isn't the best but the RAGE engine at the time of GTA IV had so much potential. This same PC that is running all these mods (that in in theory for a future release, all the modded features and higher quality graphics mods, look some up on these forums) can run pretty much any game that is a PC and Console release, I guess because Rockstar didn't do a very good GTA IV PC port to be frank. I hope and believe that Grand Theft Auto IV was what they felt would be a cohesive consistent progenitor for the current generation Grand Theft Auto game. If you looked at the progress from GTA III to Vice City to San Andreas, the amount of time it took them to do what they did was well worth it.

Red Dead Redemption obviously has heavy influence from the GTA series. But, although there's not much to be seen of the original Red Dead Revolver game (I'm talking about before Rockstar developed it) I haven't personally seen any gameplay that has slow-motion in gameplay (akin to Max Payne 1 and 2 which game out before). It is probable that the actual slow-motion dead-eye was R* San Diego taking what they learned and liked from MP1/2., and used in RDR 1 for that reason.

Now, some kinds of gameplay features are not that big, in terms of space on a disc. And if R* is willing to release MP3 on 4 f*cking DVDs then they might as well just give us a fat DVD double case with as many DVD as they can fit. It makes sense to me. The main gameplay itself, MultiPlayer included or not, would be on each disc, and then the main missions are broken up onto each disc. I assume the missions are just sets of detailed, scripted animations (cutscenes) and lots of audio files (character dialogue), and then just the code for what you gotta do: pick up a X, drive to Y, chase Z, kill Red blips on the radar, haha. Each disc would be good enough to free roam in, with the whole map, because you'd be able to do MP online it needs the map on each disc. The missions could take up as little as 25% of the disc or less as far as i'm concerned. Everything that can happen at any time in the story would have to be on each disc.

Anyway, for the future, what we have to look forward to... Well, we all experience and how know much better euphoria is than most average (and in my opinion ANY) current animations for reactions or character physics at all. GTA V will be a game where you should be able to feel each step, whether you walk it or you're driving up a flight of them in a car and your character vibrates in the seat, with a hooker on top preferably. Each impact should feel visceral. And moving should be just as visceral, shooting as well. I don't see why the bullets ballistics from Max Payne 3 couldn't be implemented into the game, like some "leak" or "rumor" suggested. If it can be done online with MP3 they can do it for us again, hopefully they will decide to. And in MP3 you can do a roll, as well as the beautifully animated shootdodging. And the enemy AI/animation/reaction to being targeted/shot at/hit all looks just as good, if not better.

I think a really good implementation of this kind of thing in GTA V would be a context sensitive dodge system, and maybe the design philosophy/animation tech of having the character animated to shoot in the aimed direction in almost all circumstances (run & gun or otherwise). You remember in GTA III and I think VC and maybe SA you could do a dive out of the way of incoming cars? Surely there could be a way, say, hold down your jump button when you are looking at/near a large enough object that is you coming in at high enough speed, and do a dive out of the way, similar to a shootdodge (in programming, animation terms). You could double tap jump to roll (similar to MP3 again, double tap run or a separate key on PC). That way the jump buttton doesn't have to be strictly roll-while-aiming like it has been and can be something else, maybe... Melee attack at the person you're aiming at? Attachments? Laser sight? Suppressor? Would be awesome...

And maybe a weapon wheel, would free up Left and Right d-pad for shoulder left side or right which I'm almost positive will be in the game (shoulder aiming switch).

What do the bored fans out there think the crazy ones, the MP3 and GTA IV "haters", whoever read through this weed and MP3 induced forum post, of something like this and the chances that R* and I having parallel thoughts and that they could do something like this exactly or even similar?

And if you have any thoughts of what they might bring to the table from other R* releases, or maybe to sh*t on another game entirely like SR# or new features in whatever "Dogs" games coming out ("Watch..." and "Sleeping...")?

Edit:TL;DR

Originally was going to say "f*ck OFF THEN" but anyway,

This post is just my aspirations, observations, and inspired speculations on what GTA V could be. I have noticed some general improvements from game to game that R8 has released throughout their history. Might as well read it if you're gonna post. I also am interested if anybody else has noticed certain things that R* games have adapted from games before them, not just the famous ones but any/all games that had the R* log on the box.

Take a look at each game, if you have played them, and discuss what you have found as you go down each title on the list, from whenever, and see if general design improvements have stemmed out of previous entries, if that makes sense. And also discuss what possible specific features or mechanics from games POST GTA-IV that might very well be in 5

You don't write a TL;DR and then say 'you might as well read it'. That's the point of a TL;DR: If people don't want to read the whole thing, they can scroll down and look at the short version.

Edit: Sorry, but that entire wall of text is completely unnecessary and confusing. You don't make it clear what you're actually asking and half of it doesn't make sense. Maybe shorten it and I'll provide better feedback.

Just added TL:DR section but to better understand skimming through the text after if not reading it is a good idea.

This would be a good blog post aimed at people who just started tuning in to the GTA V hype scene. But aside from that, I think we all assume your post to be true, right? You're basically saying "hopefully they upgrade the game, use more of the engine, and include features they've pioneered in their more recent titles" and that's essentially what has been discussed on this forum for the past ten months.

In 2007 Midway had released the game "John Woo Presents: Stranglehold" and it have slow motion with the name "Tequila-time". tounge.gif Anyway Red Dead Redemption was improved in all points compared to GTA IV. Graphics are better so more realistic and really epic, physics are more smooth, more realistic wind effects, a lot of content etc. etc. It's a awesome game. That's the reason why I'm looking forward to GTA V. The improvements won't be as strong as GTA IV - Red Dead Redemption but still very awesome. It'll be interesting how many hours I can fly planes. cool.gif

I've completed MP3 on every difficulty setting & with free aim, I haven't even tried either of the lock options. I then went back and played GTA 4 & the on foot controls feel sluggish but that's to be expected. I still find the gunplay quite visceral & satisfying though.

I think it was wise of R* to create their own proprietary game engine, which seems designed to make the most of the amazing Euphoria physics engine (Havok seems to be the most used though). This has allowed each of their games to borrow from one another much more than they did last gen but still feel different enough. I hope to see many elements from RDR & MP3 implemented in V, specifically the gunplay. One thing that I thought IV did better than any other open world game before or since, is the driving. At first it was infuriating but like the best games, the more you play the better you get. Only a few minor tweaks are needed in that area IMO.

I agree with you about The Warriors game. Especially as one of the songs that plays on the clubhouse radio 'Knock on Wood by Amii Stewart' was produced by my father. Shame it wasn't in a GTA game but still a great R* game nevertheless & real surprise when I first heard it smile.gif. I'd like to see R* do another game based on a cult movie from the past, like my favourite movie of all time 'John Carpenter's The Thing'. I did play the PS2 'sort of sequel' but imagine what a Rockstar 'survival horror' would be like. If any developer could revive that genre (pun intended).

Uh, excuse me, but what the f*ck are you talking about OP?

Also, the ability to actually dodge sh*t, instead of jumping forward like a retard to escape those insanely aggressive drivers would be nice.

But that pretty much ended my agreement with you. f*ck attachements, and the permanent sh*t stain COD and other first person shooters have left on the industry.

I'm talking about improvements that go beyond the scope of a single series, improvements were made in other non GTA games that have shown up in GTA games in the past, and what we may possibly expect to see in GTA V.

I don't see what you are talking about.

I don't know from what I read but do you have something against weapon attachments on guns? It would be interesting to me, if implemented in a balanced, realistic, and fun way. You wouldn't need or always have to have something fancy on your gun. Plain iron sights, normal stocks/grip, mag. CoD has something to do with this? I don't even know...
