It's almost confirmed that the protag is a dog. Look at the first scene of the trailer. The narrators voice and the look of the dog totally match. Yes, and every mission you're supposed to do, he just gives a Top Ten list as to why it won't work instead. Then when you just let him stand there, he grows impatient and starts to fiddle with the buttons on his jacket. Personally, I'm liking the idea of playing as a concrete slab in the sidewalk.
