That may be a trivial matter to discuss but I think that small aesthetic thing is actually worth talking about.

My question is, whether you want to see on-screen car names or car logos when getting into a vehicle.

Let's compare both options.

Names:

+ Have been around since the beginning of the series of GTA

+ Does not take up much room on the screen

+ Easy to alter, as it is a mere line of text

- Requires an inofficial tool to change this mere line of text

- Often looks bland and uninteresting

Logos:

+ Much more eye-candy than the usual string of text

+ Each logo may reflect the characteristics of vehicle by its on-screen appearance

+ Each logo is unique to every vehicle

- More difficult to alter; requires any advanced graphics editor (Photoshop, GIMP)

- Requires a tool which can extract and pack textures of the game

- Takes up more space on the screen

+/- A feature from Saints Row series

EDIT: or*, not 'of' in the poll.

GTA is for the mature gamer and we don't need eye candy. Text will do just fine and it has done in the previous games.

I really liked the car logos from saints row 2, it just added more depth to the game. I don't see why only they can use it, I'd love to see it in V, normal car names are a bit boring.

.JimmyHopkins.

I voted for names only ...it's simple,it works and it's nothing that important to me so...if it works perfect, then there is nothing to fix.

A Saints Row "feature" in a GTA would make GTA look bad.

It should stay always with text only. It's like a tradition in every GTA game tounge.gif . f*ck picture eye candy. It only eats up MB's and f*cks some better features away because of not enough space left.

I like it the way it is tbqh. The way car names are displayed in Saints Row gets annoying sometimes.

I like staring at the words on the bottom right of my screen, just like every other GTA game I never want that changed

text. .having all kinds of logos on screen just adds to the clutter. I prefer minimal HUDs.. they can leave out the car name entirely for me

What about the possibility of both?

That's what I was wondering and wanting. The car name with the manufacturer logo next to it. Having the manufacturer logo would mean that a certain logo could be on multiple vehicles, granted that there's not a different manufacturer for every vehicle lol. This would, I think, add a certain amount of depth to the game.

A tad off topic, I think it'd be neat to see a car sales lot hosted by a specific car manufacturer.

Just the car names

I honestly don't care much about the logos. Sure, they're a nice addition on making the world more "open", but they're don't have to be included onscreen when you enter a car imho.

I liked the way they did it in Saints Row 2 - it gave the cars more of an identity. Rockstar already gave all the cars in GTA IV their own badges (as shown below), which look more professional than the ones in SR2. They only pop up for about a second in the corner of the screen, so "clutter" is not an issue.

You can already see the logo(s) on the car. So I say just the car names.

I would say none at all. Or it be like early "help" items. It shows up a few times then never again. I really think it isn't necessary at all since the identity of the car is already on it. It's overkill. I never really did care for it.

Besides someone is going to eventually make a fansite with all the cars from the game in it anyway.

They could actually drop the name-pop-up altogether. Back in the day, the names and brands weren't on the cars themselves, so they put them as text when you entered them. Now, most of the vehicles carry some form of name or badge that can be seen, so players can learn their names that way. Most GTA players will learn to identify cars by appearance anyhow, some more quickly than others, so the name pop-up is not really that necessary. Not to mention, I bet a fair amount of people just identify some of cars by their real-life counterpart anyhow. I rarely think of the Comet as anything but 'the not-quite-Porsche' or the Sentinel as 'the not-quite-BMW-M3.'

Both will be good. Manufacterer's picture, and model name underneath.

Rockstar didn't pay much attention to manufacterer's in IV. It was interesting to know that Cavalcade and Washington had the same manufacterer. It adds atmosphere to the game.

Well for a realistic touch is quite good there some models of the same manufacturer

I think they should just stick with the names of the cars but you should be able to toggle it on/off in the options. Personally I like the feature since I often get into a car thinking it is a certain model only to find out it is a sh*ttier look-alike. The cars are easier to identify by their branding and badging in the PC version due to the enhanced graphics but the feature is helpful (for me at least) in the console versions.

Vehicle logos wouldn't really work since they would only tell you the manufacturer and not the model in most cases since very few cars have unique badges.. in fact the Banshee is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head that has.

I prefer just the text, the game will be in HD on powerful consoles so any other information we want to find out about the cars we can investigate ourselves: it's more interesting and realistic that way.

SR (along with a lot of others) look cheesy when the logo appears, just leave it as is.

Who cares?

Just give us the classic car name on top, neighborhood name in the middle, and street name on bottom, and maybe put it in a classic font. Little things like this should not be changed imo, hell the HUD should just stay unchanged from IV imho.

I agree too. Plus seeing a logo has no importance to the game. Seeing the car name all nice and slick as in all past GTA games is nice. All the same font and size as the other cars. When it gets to logos, it can just start looking tacky having different shapes, colors, and sizes of logos.

May be both, but not occupying a big chunk of the screen like in SR, just keep it simple in a corner

That's what I love about R*, you have to keep an eye out to see all the tiny details. I didn't realize every parodied car manufacturers has a logo & have been checking them all out on their respective wiki pages. I'd prefer them to just keep it the same & not clutter the screen with even more stuff, even if it only flashes up temporarily.
