KaRzY6
Okay, so these 3 countries are probably the 3 big 'new lands' the Brittish colonised. Which do you think has the best relationship with Britain? Canada and Australia are Commonwealth members, but the US seems to have a great relationship with the Brittish. Pyrrhic
Ill never get sick of the Australia vs. Great Britain vs. New Zealand rivalry . I have absolutely no idea what Canada's relationship with GB is like but they're lucky they got to change their flag. I'd love for the Aussie one to be changed. Why would you want the Aussie flag changed? I like our loyalty to Britain(with the Union Jack), and I hope we stay in the Commonwealth. If I remember correctly, they were discussing leaving the Commonwealth a few years back. But it never went ahead. prob America since theyve got the bigger army That's true. Ever since WW2(you could say WW1), they have fought in each war together. America kind of drags them into it though, especially the ones against the Soviet Union(Communists). Icarus
I have absolutely no idea what Canada's relationship with GB is like but they're lucky they got to change their flag. That didn't go off without a hitch. That took six months of debate in the House of Commons and the only reason it ended sooner rather than later was because the government invoked cloture on the debate. You'll still find people to this day who hate the Maple Leaf and would rather fly the Red Ensign. Personally, I love the Maple Leaf and am glad we ditched the Red Ensign ages ago. Yes, we have a history with the Commonwealth, but it was time for Canada to start forming its own identity and it's a bit hard to do so when your flag (the Red Ensign) is defaced with the Union Jack. Dingdongs
Haven't we talked about this in like 3-4 separate topics over the past 6 months? Algonquin Assassin
We still carry the Union Jack so........us I guess. I know people have said we should change our flag, but there's no need to fix what isn't broken IMO.

TBH, with a boxing kangaroo(suggestion of a future flag by many), it would look could of sloppy in my opinion.

Algonquin Assassin
That's true, but for the most part we still have a solid relationship with Great Britain. Anyway perhaps this is a bit irrelevent, but while the Olympics were on I thought it was cool how they said us along with Great Britain, Greece and Denmark are the only 4 nations to have competed at every modern Olympics. In essence the London games felt like an extension of home to me.

The Union Jack doesn't just show own great relationship with Britain, but more to show we are in the Commonwealth and the queen is our head state. Pyrrhic
That is EXACTLY what I would like. I even made this topic a while back as a suggestion to have (along with the original Aussie flag) a boxing kangaroo option for a flag on GTAF.
Jay
suggestion of a future flag by many Well no. Not really. At least not anyone who is being serious, isn't drunk, completely bogan or in any position of power. The only alteration I can see happening within our lifetimes is a straight swap of the Union Jack with the Aboriginal flag. And that's only because Liberal White Guilt is more powerful than the Republicans right here and now.
Pyrrhic
At least not anyone who is being serious, isn't drunk, completely bogan or in any position of power. I would love to see the Boxing Kangaroo as the flag and I'm serious (I am), not drunk (I am 15), not bogan (I go to a Catholic boys high school) and obviously not in any position of power. The only alteration I can see happening within our lifetimes is a straight swap of the Union Jack with the Aboriginal flag. This is probably even more unlikely. All the aboriginals will have a whinge about it being a bloody sacred flag and it should only be used by them. A town, Mordialloc, near where I live, had the Aboriginal flag flying and aboriginals tore it down because they didn't want white people using it. It was replaced within a week and was then tore down again.
Jay
I would love to see the Boxing Kangaroo as the flag and I'm serious No way. I am 15 Oh, that explains it. Do some modern history, international relations or political theory courses either in year 11/12 or at university. Not as a favour to me, but yourself. It's also true that while the local Indigenous population aren't treated very well here, they're not all completely irrational.

Bad joke i agree, but i do kind of think the flag would be cool, pretty damn unique that's for sure, but i doubt we will change the flag, and if we do it's probably going to be something Aboriginal related like you mentioned. Icarus
That's one cheesy looking flag. Also, shouldn't there be seven six stars on it just like the current Australian flag? If I remember correctly, my Australian co-worker told me the stars represent each territory of Australia. [EDIT] Looked as the Australian flag again.
