sausage fest
ok so im an xbox owner, and I remember a while ago reading a couple articles on gamespot talking about how gta v could be the first download only game for xbox. I know you guys would be like it can never happen but think about it. They said space issues were a huge problem making gta iv. You see games like rage and BF3 asking you to download couple gigs etc... the possibility is there. Would you guys be against it? Not to mention the fact that microsoft makes a killing off of xbox games digital sales

They can only hold about 7.5 gigs 3. They can be lost I hope this game is the first downloadable one, the only issue is it will take a very long time. Frantz Fuchs
LA Noire was like 16GB and that came on 3 discs. R* can provide V on 3 discs too. There have been on 4 discs too so it's not a problem. Edited August 12, 2012 by Frantz Fuchs
GTA_La_Costra_Nostra
I'm going to disagree. I mean they have a hard time making games with as big of maps like Skyrim and probably GTA V as it is. I don't think they could with the technology they have now.
Eagle-Eye
HE'S TRYING TO START A WAR! LETS FLAME HIM!!! I'm kidding, but yeah, if they made it downloadable, it would be more efficient. But some people dont like using a PSN Card/XBL Points to buy a Game, instead, they buy the disc instead. So both have purpose, but in my opinion - If they made it for both disc & download, the sales increase

Other than that I see no point in making the game download exclusive. Sure, it saves a trip to your local gamestop - but like you said, the game could take a long time to download, making it more of a hassle.

Snake Without a Tongue
and the people that does not have internet connection? To hell with them! But yeah, not just that, but what about the people who don't want to spend six hours downloading 25gigs or whatever. There are more people out here than just crazy gamers with nothing but time and money to spend. No business will ever take the the less convenient and more costly approach. I recently upgraded my PS3's hard drive from 80gb to 250gb, so if it were to be downloadable only (which it won't), I would be OK with it. I don't care how much it costs, I'll never buy another PS with less than 100gb. I don't even download games and I'm still performing triage on my install games. Finn 7 five 11
Every single game developed in Xbox360 that runs off a disc must not need an install, downloading "a few gigs" for the rest of the game online would probably count as an install because many Xboxes were sold without HDD's (Wonder who's great idea that was.) But developers have found ways around that now. I think how they have it is disc-only or download-only. One day we will probably have download only consoles/PC's, but it will be a long time before that happens, at a guess 15 years or more, Australia is just getting an upgrade so everyone has super-fast internet (peak 1Gbit) and the plan was started two years ago, and isn't expected to end for another 10, and even then not everyone will have internet fast enough for massive downloads, and that is in a developed country. There are more people out here than just crazy gamers with nothing but time and money to spend. No business will ever take the the less convenient and more costly approach. I buy a lot of games on Steam and I think that IF (big if) it is to go this way for consoles, they could do a similar thing to what Steam does: pre-load. For example, I purchased MP3 on Steam and that game is 28 gigs or so to download. Where I was at the time, had a sh*tty 600 kb/s connection. Steam does pre-loads for many games, especially popular ones where a few days before release, they allow those who pre-ordered to download the game files. They don't allow you to download the files needed to launch the game, those you download quickly once the game unlocks on the release date. Release date for MP3 comes, I already have the game downloaded, Steam unlocks it...and I'm playing very quickly. Everyone is happy. This also prevents a lot of pirating. Sleeping Dogs is already "out there" for example, and the PC version I have not seen a single person play yet because the Steam files have not been unlocked yet. While the 360 version a lot of people are already playing despite the game having not released. If done right, it could work. But like previously stated, not everyone has an internet connection on their console or is willing to pay to buy it digitally. If you worry about scratching or losing your discs, you need to learn how to take care of your things. In all my years of owning games, I have never scratched or lost one. All you need to do is put it back in it's case when you aren't using it, and put it away.

Emergency_Room
It would not surprise me to see some type of large HDD install for Xbox 360. I would though rather have it on discs instead of having to download it but can live with either option. I think HALO 4 is going to require an HDD install for multiplayer. If anything the XBOX would be what would keep this from happening with alot of xboxs not having large hard drives Not really as big of a problem as people think. One thing that gets overlooked is the fact that you can also use an external hard drive or a flash drive on an Xbox 360. I could see two things happening. First a special edition that includes a 16 GB GTA V flash drive. The other thing I could see happening is stores like Best Buy running a deal where if you buy GTA V you also get a 16 GB flash drive free.

Gtaghost22
Believe me. It won't happen. I don't really care since i don't have a 360 anymore and i'll be getting it for PS3, i blame microsoft for choosing this outdated format, 2. They can only hold about 7.5 gigs PS3 uses Blu-Ray, it holds up to 50 GB.

tj11
I'm on PS3. But either way, I'd rather have a game on a disc than a download. All kinds of things can and do happen to digital media. Factory pressed discs can last many decades, when looked after. I download stuff all the time, but nothing compares with a physical disc, no matter the format. KrushLTx10
If this were to be a reality, some people would be enraged. A few months ago I had a max speed of around 200-300 kbps internet. I upgraded to a much faster max of 12 mbps a month ago and now can download large games easily. Unfortunately, not all of us have the privilege of having fast download speeds to download a large game and that can possibly hinder sales for this game, because most people would stray away from it since it would take them 2 days or something like that to download it. I remember RDR with the Undead Nightmare Pack taking me 2 days, and man it wasn't a fun time lol. I don't see this happening though.
gtamann123
I hope its not download only because my Hard Drive is running out of space. So if its download only and I can't play it I'm going to freak out lol.
MIKON8ERISBACK
Yeah. We have to face it. The Blu-Ray disc is the only storage medium with the technology to handle all that data. Although the size of the game overall does not necessarily dictate the size of the game in gigabytes.
Algonquin Assassin
I'll most likey get the game for 360, but I'll get the PS3 version if it's download only. I'd imagine the sales would be down considerably compared to a disc version.

Come time when the PS4 releases, I'm gonna be inspecting the memory capacity for the system as well as the games, and then decide accordingly -- even if it means waiting for a greater-memory capacity version to release, in order to avoid another full day of mad scientist-like work to replace my HDD.
