GTA Wiki or Grand Theft Wiki

I'm wondering just for reference. I personally use both, considering the fact that Grand Theft Wiki is more secure and "Legit", but GTA Wiki focuses more trivial details. However, some of their articles make me scratch my head and say "What the f*ck am I reading?"

I use GTA Wiki because it has a mobile site and I like Wikia better.

As a former administrator of GTAWiki (Russelnorthrop), definitely GTAWiki. Most people here probably don't know the story of Gboyers vs. McJeff.

People don't want to know or don't care about story of Gboyers vs. McJeff. People visit these pages for trustworthy information, which they can find on Grand Theft Wiki. Wikia spreads some much sh*t in their topic that this isn't funny anymore. Some topics like GTA V Vehicles contains one thing: link to Grand Theft Wiki. Is that the way the page should work?

 

Even if Wikia has somemoderators they got sloppy. They don't check informations provided by viewers, which leads to misinformation (like Cobra gang - under link provided by universetwisters).

Yes but it's not Wikia's fault. It's the patrollers, admins, and bureaucrats fault. Because Gboyers, Eganio, Spaceeinstein etc. all left the wikia ran wild and Jeff, Tom, Dan Ilan and I were left to deal with it. I'm sure even Grand Tehft Wiki has fan-made canon pages like Cobra MC, and I'm sure the staff will eventually find that page and it'll be deleted.

 

Remember, there are almost 7,000 pages at GTAWiki now, it's hard to find stupid little pages like that when they couldve been made years ago and ther are no articles leading to it.

 

Also, just letting you know that that wasn't a rant at you Tycek, I respect you highly but it was hard to get that across with sounding like I'm fighting.

But because of these patrollers, admins and bureaucrats the whole page is losing credibility. What if CNN or BBC start to spread some false information and blame it on reporters and news gatherers. I know it's not the same scale and comparing TV companies to wiki regarding one game isn't the best way to show the problem, but I believe you may agree with me on point of this comparison. Job of these companies and wikia are gathering information and spreading it. Posting false information isn't the way to do it.

 

GTW doesn't have Cobra MC (I checked it) and fan made pages are vanishing quite fast.

 

Beside that Wikia must making huge problems, because The Vault (Fallout Wiki) left Wikia not long after GTW.

 

I didn't take your post as a rant towards me, don't worry, but I have the impresion like you fighting already lost war. Wikia probably got viewers because of Google positioning, which is placing Wikia on first positions. Wouldn't be better way to battle with GTW with layout, information, screens, speed and things that are important for viewers?

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but it isn't really Wikias fault. It's the people on Wikias fault. The same stupid people that edit GTAWiki could be the same stupid people that edit GTW. But because of the Google positioning that you mentioned most of those people end up at GTAWiki.

I understand perfectly English(I don´t write well in english, I know it, but write and read it´s pretty different).

Simply ,imo, the spanish version (specially) is more complete.

The English version of GTAWiki is amazing too, and I´m not going to be critic or judge a website made(unselfishly) by fans for fans.

GTA Wiki is more comprehensive and contains information that Grand Theft Wiki doesn't, probably due to it being more popular and therefore having more editors. I also find that when the guys behind the Grand Theft Wiki copied all of the info from the GTA Wiki over they copied over some misinformation in the process and never changed it. I think the bullsh*t on the GTA Wiki can be weeded out with a bit of common sense.

 

At the end of the day the information on every wiki relies on the knowledge and dedication of its contributers so the odds are kind of staked against Grand Theft wiki with the size of their user base. The Red Dead and Max Payne Wikis are operated by forum members who maintain and moderate them pretty well I think in order to have on definitive GTA Wiki there needs to be affiliation and support from this site or another big GTA fansite.

 

On a side note universtwisters I must also commend you on that Carcer City Wiki - really well done the time and dedication that must have taken is comendable. I really hope that mod works out for you, keep up the good work and dedication.

GTA. wikia for sure. I love the way they describe features and have pretty intersting articles too. But any site is not 100% accurate.
