If on the release day of GTA IV(yes IV), I told you that the next GTA game would take 5+ years to develop you would probably get wide eyed. Thats a long time, and its assumed that ALOT can be done in 5 years. Its rumored that there are 400+ people working on GTA V around the clock. Thats insane.

So personally this makes me think GTA is going to be HUGE. A huge MAP, a huge STORY, huge CUSTOMIZATIONS, huge amounts of CONTENT.

But just because the game is taking this long and Rockstar is being so secretive doesnt mean that its going to have everything we ever wanted. Lots of the things we wish for I feel might fall short.

There are topics on all of these and IMO all these things should be improved in V due to how long they are taking to make it. But I feel like we will be disappointed to an extent. Im afraid that when the game drops we will be like "Why isnt this in the game? They worked on it for so long."

What are your thoughts

well...this is honestly how i feel as well! However i've chosen "won't know until game releases" because we really don't know what's going on...its not like they revealed tons of the info to make any assumptions out of it...we know tiny little to nothing about this game yet to say what features it will miss that we all hype. its just a common sense unfortunately that a lot of features won't be in GTAV that we're hyping up for!

I can't be dissapointed if it's only slightly better than GTA IV but I'm sure it will be much better.

I agree. All I am expecting is an improvement on IV. That way, it'll be hard to be disappointed.

I am not saying IV was a bad game (it wasn't), just that I think it's obvious R* will make improvements on what IV had and probably add new features. If that's all you expect, it will be hard to be disappointed.

I am not going to expect some massive overhaul of everything. That may be the case with the end result, but better to aim lower in your own expectations so as not to be disappointed.

Before the trailer dropped I would have been happy with the game as long as it better than IV (which wont be hard IMO).

But now that we have been stewing in our own non informative misery I really have high expectations for this game. When they say "This is the big one" it better be.

I know I will be happy either way, but I can pretty much promise that there will be a few things missing because Im expecting alot at this point.

When IV released I thought it was the greates game ever. But after I reflected on it I realized all that was missing. I dont want to do that with V

Agreed. I have tried to keep modest expectations but its hard

...a lot of people want GTAV to be less GTAIV and more GTA SA (which's IMHO much supperior game...) thats why all these negative thoughts before we know more on this game, me including...i don't like GTAIV, thats why i'm aware GTAV will be too much like GTAIV was...

I just expect GTA IV with more to do, new setting, missions story and so on. This way I won't be disappointed. If they do more than this then I'll be pleasantly surprised and the wait hasn't changed that.

There is such a thing as 'too much hype'. Many people think that this long wait is going to make GTA V even better, but sometimes things just can't live up to. I really hope R* is honest about the many years in between IV and V,

Same here. The only MAJOR improvements Im hoping for would be the shooting/cover system.

But LOTS more stuff to do and LOTS more ways to spend money is a must

I swear, if this GTA doesn't have things to buy again like properties etc...I am going to be seriously disappointed. That is really my biggest want in V. To have a purpose to get all that money, so I can spend it on buying sh*t in game like properties, maybe cars etc. Not having any of that, was my biggest beef with IV.

After Vice City came out, I was really growing doubtful about how the next GTA would turn out. I figured there wasn't much left they could squeeze out of the PS2 and San Andreas would only show minor improvements over VC. Well, when SA came out, it caught me with my pants down taking a big runny dump. I never would have believed they could pull off such a huge game world packed with stuff to do on such limited hardware capabilities.

My point is, while over hyping the game is never good, I still think it has a good chance of surpassing a lot of people's expectations much like SA did.

GTA IV was good, but everyone should know that V will be better than IV. And IV was real good imho, so I have nothing to worry about. So you all keep worrying. happy.gif

I thought GTA IV was great. I loved the story and the characters. I missed some of the features that GTA SA had but only in the latter stages. Expectations for GTA V? Not that many, if its like GTA IV with a couple of more choices then I will be happy. Cannot wait for the map though, somewhat expecting it to be big.

I'd say a little bit. I'm starting to lose excitement and hype, and so is the rest of the community. I don't think the next trailer/press release/screenshot montage would bring any explosions in hype that wouldn't just be there in the first place. However I do understand that if your gonna announce platforms, you must also provide a release date along with it. And that might as well come in conjunction with a new trailer or screenshot montage or two.

I wouldn't be surprised. Took them long enough to make IV, even longer to do LA Noire and RDR so 5 years is short, really.

Yeah well. That's something people do to themselves by clinging on to every and any word written about the game and overanalysing it. Manage your expectations.. or better yet, have none. That way whatever makes it into the game will be fresh.

I expect more from R* probably more than any other game developer. I know I will have a game that ill spend hours on. i will be a little hurt if the improvement are small however. I like seeing GTA evolve for the good whether it's good "sa" or bad "GTA 4 excluding DLC."

Does it have a negative effect on me, no because expect any short comings to be fixed in the future. I know 90% of people will think it's the next Holy grail of video games at least until the story is complete. Then the rethinking and thought's will come in and people will decide if it was worth the wait or not. Most likely people will forget about the wait for the game and Yell for DLC.

This is exactly my point. The longer the wait the MORE you expect. And your expectations may become unrealistic.

As I said in another thread. R* released a trailer and than went quiet for 9 months. This left alot of questions. Questions that many were forced to answer with their own imaginations and that can be good for some and dangerous for others

I don't think it's correct to anticipate that twice as much work is going into GTA V as GTA IV just based on time since GTA IV/EFLC. I don't think GTA V really got started until a decision was made to move Agent to the back burner.

The 2009 announcement of Agent, logically, meant that was supposed to be the next Rockstar North game after TBOGT. Announcement implies it was considered by decision-makers to be within a year of being releasable, and indeed Agent was listed among 2010 releases in a 2009 A&A. GTA V didn't get fully going until that plan was derailed.

The time of Agent being at the top of Rockstar North's to-do list began no later than fall 2009 and continued no later than spring 2011. The public bookends to the saga are Agent's announcement at E3 2009 and Take-Two's earnings call in May 2011 (first to disclose GTA-size earnings guidance for FY2013) followed by Jack Tretton's statement of uncertainty about Agent at E3 2011.

These games are too big for Rockstar North to manage two at a time like they did Manhunt and GTA III and Vice City. Manhunt 2 had to find a new home because of GTA SA and GTA IV. There are over twice as many map artists credited for GTA IV over GTA SA even though GTA IV has just over half the land area of GTA SA. It's likely there are even more people working on GTA V, and it will express all that extra work plus a lot of work that can reused from GTA IV. But Rockstar North is not infinitely scalable and GTA V won't be impossibly big. Just next to impossibly big. smile.gif

Meh. I feel like some people around here are expecting a bit to much. I mean have you seen some of these topics around here? And the wishlist?

It didn't affect my expectations for the game in any way, they could've just given V information when they had the chance though. I really hope this is the biggest game yet because there has never been a GTA with the over-the-top fun from San Andreas and TBoGT, the graphics and engine of IV, the vibe of Vice City, and the length of San Andreas.

I for one feel pretty confident that my expectations are reasonable and will be met. But as time goes on I hear more and more people here having unrealistic expectations.

Me too, still playing TBOGT on xbox 360 and GTA IV with Niko on PC. And the only thing that stopped me playing GTA-SA was when GTA IV came out.

If I have to play GTAV for 6 to 7 years waiting for the next-gen GTA, I hope that Rockstar will keep GTAV alive all those years with high quality DLC via a subscription / annual pass mechanism.
