IV hangs during/after startup splash screen

Hey all!

 

After reformatting and installing windows again (it was time to upgrade to x64 ), I decided to start modding again. So... what's modding without GTA:IV?

 

I installed IV, patched to 1.0.7.0 then tried to run it (no mods installed what-so-ever at this point.) The game started up, the splashscreens showed (R* logo), but after the last screen it just hung; nothing happened.

 

I tried a lot: running with xliveless, with a no-cd crack (I have the game legit, but I thought it may be a securom issue), all to no avail.

 

So I uninstalled the game, re-installed. Applied NO patches what-so-ever, then tried to play. Voila: the game worked! Awesome. Now, me being stubborn I patched to 1.0.7.0 once again. Tried to start the game and... same issue!

 

So somehow the 1.0.7.0 patch is messing my game up. Has anyone else run into this issue? I'd love to work with the 1.0.7.0 patch because that's what I have made some mods for and my documentation is tailored to that version.

After patching to 1.0.7.0 you should start the game from the launcher, you mention the RGSC logo, the old application should not be used anymore.

Try disabling RGSC completely in combination with xliveless, rename file paul.dll in the game folder into something else.

Videocard: Ati Radeon HD 5770 1GB

RAM: 3 GB DDR2

 

 

Just downgraded to 1040, the game is working now (had to fix missing menu texts using the instructions on this page though: http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2198415 , as well as using C++ scripthook v0.4.0). I think I'll just keep using 1.0.4.0 :-/.

 

In essence I am now forced to come up with a more robust way to make my mods compatible with different versions of IV, which isn't necessarily a bad thing .

 

EDIT:

I was already using xliveless. I wasn't talking about the RGSC icon, just the R* icons in the game startup splashscreen.
