Versous
The next generation of consoles is long overdue. PC gamers say it, console gamers say it & most importantly a ton of Developers say it! It is no secret anymore. I'm am almost 100% sure, that the promotion of these consoles will begin between january and june(E3 2013) next year. The only "true" next-gen game we saw so far is Star Wars 1313 and it looks better than anything right now... Even PC players admit it! A lot of people would add Watch Dogs to the list but it is confirmed that it'll be released on current-gen too so to me it isn't what I would call a next-gen game (The game running on PC looked amazing) Theres a possibility that there will be a PS3, 360, PC/ Nextbox, PS4 version tho. What I'm trying to say, is that between now & the end of next year we are going to see more & more of actual gameplay using incredible & impressive new technology. Not only Tech demos like Cryengine 3 Unreal Engine 4 Luminous Engine & the other stuff we can already watch now. I believe this kind of gameplay footage is definitely going to turn heads of core & casual gamers. A lot of people will be wondering what these consoles are capable of. So my guess is that Rockstar don't want to release GTA V somewhere between the promotion of these next-gen consoles. What we've seen from the game so far looks like a tweaked version of GTA IV which is a lot more colorful than IV as well. But there is no way, that GTA V can visually compete with a Watch Dogs which is a fair comparison since it is going to be a game of the same genre! To be fair we have to wait & see how the PC version of GTA V is going to look like but this will not be relevant for console users. We also have to wait & see how the Ps3 & 360 versions of Watch Dogs are going to look like of course... So yeah, I strongly believe that GTA V got to be released sometime between end of 2012(at the earliest) and June 2013 alone because of this. theworldfamous
Yeah makes sense.. there have been devkits spotted (offered for sale even..oops click). But to call it incredible technology? Apparently they're both very much like PC's and based on DX11. Pretty but not revolutionary. At least from the looks of things they'll have a decent amount of RAM, which is good news for GTA-like games. And if they are indeed so much like PC with an intel/nvidia combo.. that's great news for developers and the best news PC gaming has had in years! Don't get me wrong.. if those predicted specs turn out to be true they're pretty powerful machines and arguably a bigger generational leap than what separated xbox and xbox360. but it'll take a while before developers unlock that potential. Rest assured V will still be cutting edge game for a long time. The first next gen titles will have nice graphics, but they will relatively straight forward, risk free games that are easy to produce and easy to market. It'll be a while before those consoles will see anything as ambitious as Grand Theft Auto, remember how it took a couple of years for this generation to get truly going as well. wwinterj
At the latest I think we will get GTA V May 2013 but next gen or any other game really is irrelevant to my opinion. We haven't seen any next gen games up and running and as I've said time and time again when next gen consoles hit the market it'll take at least a year before the fanbase is big enough for developers to jump ship. It's the same with every console cycle. I'll be honest also this gen of consoles still have a lot of good games coming out for them so it's not like they will drop of the face of the earth once next gen consoles are out. I really don't understand this topic at all as next gen or it's games(whatever they are) don't have any effect on GTA V.
theworldfamous
It's not like they have to get the game out before the new consoles are revealed. But it's preferable, it makes it a lot harder to amaze people. The original Bully on ps2 did suffer from most of the attention going to the new consoles. I think they want to make V the definitive game for this generation that everyone has to have in their collection, like SA was for ps2.

mvega0422
You make good points; something similar was actually discussed recently. The final year of a console's generation, that console sells much less. This means less pool of "new buyers" for that year and it can actually lead to huge decreases in the sale of a game. Assuming we get PS4 by Spring 2014 that would mean GTA V would have to be released before March to get some of those 'new' sales. And the sooner they release GTA V, the more potential 'new' sales they can get. I think the number was something along the lines of 11 million extra potential sales if they release by December? Not sure, but regardless, the parent is right, they need to release it sooner rather than later to really make history.

I wish i had your optimism my man, yeah i know about those predictions and stuff, but i can see them changing those predictions, or actually accepting the losses all the same. Before the end of March means either someone in March or at the end of 2012, cause i don't see it coming out in January or February, no way. Not really sure why the OP thought this needed a new thread though, but ah well.

MosquitoSmasher
But i agree with the OP, especially with the next gen consoles in mind, and it seems MS is readying up for a release next year. More and more leaks from the new console are coming, and not all of that is nonsense. No way Rockstar want to have to worry about that when they release GTA V. As much i don't see the game coming out this year or early 2013...it has to happen sometime though. Cause let's say those predictions arent correct and Take Two accept their losses, it's gonna come out later 2013? With the risk of releasing alongside a brand new console? I see the OP's point and it's definitely interesting to wait and see what Take Two/Rockstar are gonna say about this...sometime soon.

MosquitoSmasher
I must say that i've never ever seen anything like this before. With that i mean how people really analyze things and speak with alot of logic too. I find it quite special, cause i've been on plenty of other forums of games like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and so on....and there wasn't any kind of speculation or interesting theories. I'm impressed and i enjoy reading these theories and speculations, but as cool as it all is....we need some real information, Rockstar you hear us?!!! Gtaghost22
The Last of Us looks better than Watch dogs and it will be released for PS3. Next-Gen consoles will be released in 2014. GTA V won't be released in Jan-March. Period January: Everybody spent money on christmas, terrible time to release a game. February: Bioshock's month, TakeTwo won't release 2 of thier games in the same month. March: Too close to bioshock's release date (Feb 26) December 2012 is my guess. With the risk of releasing alongside a brand new console? These financial analysts are not just mindless c*nts. The predictions mean that the game will be released between now and March 2013. TakeTwo didn't change their predictions drastically on the last finance conference so this is a strong evidence that GTA V is not delayed yet. This and we got a trailer 9 months ago which means the game is months NOT YEARS away. I would say that GTA V is at least scheduled for 2012. It kills some of the magic, but it made me appreciate the actual design over graphical muscle, and there isn't a whole lot that approaches GTA when it comes to design. It has style. That Star Wars demo was pretty neat, but pretty much what I expected. And no offense to star wars fans, but as nice as the graphics were, it's also an indication of the creative direction for next gen. It continues the trend of more directed/scripted gameplay, less original IP and more recycling of established franchises, more generic space marine sh*t (slap a Mass Effect logo on it and it would work just as well)
AtomicPunk
Next-Gen consoles may be talked about and shown at E3 2013, but the consoles will not come out until fall of 2014, IMO. The next-gen release has nothing to do with any big games slated to come out on this-gen, this is just the last wave by dev's. GTA V coming october 2013 will have no effect on next-gen systems, as they will have no effect on GTA V on this gen systems. I do predict that if R* wishes to stay relevant on next-gen systems, they will produce a game withing 2-3 years after next-gen systems come out. Thank you, and good day. MosquitoSmasher
I was having a discussion with someone about GTA V and he said he's almost certain the only reason they don't show much, is because they are not allowed to show a thing. He also says...it's GTA V, and they only use a new nember for a new generation. Like how IV was for this generation. He believes that's the reason that it almost took them a year to come with something truly new. ....not that from november to july is what i;d call almost a year though. They'll also replace the two random chars you saw in the gameplay trailer with known charachters from the SW universe(Boba fett is rumoured). So, the possibility remains that it's not just going to be another generic space marine shooter, but a game that will have a certain Star Wars magic in it. Fact is, it looks great for a next-gen launch game. Edited August 11, 2012 by Versous

73duster
At first i thought, "Good lord! Not another release date thread!", but this post actually makes sense, IF the next gen consoles are REALLY as close as some suggest. However, i have YET to see anyone SPECIFICALLY connected with either console say anything except the OPPOSITE. Sony has repeatedly said that the limits of the PS3 have yet to be reached. Perhaps if i saw something more than speculation by those OUTSIDE of the console makers say something more definitive, i wouldn't be so sceptical. The next gen console is going to need a lot of time for promotion, and preparation for developers learning to use the new technology. They aren't going to just drop a new console within the time it takes to develop and create a game.
