Cockpit view: Good or bad?

What do you guys think if GTA V included this feature? I personally wouldn't find it useful however considering the map's size, it would probably be enjoyable to ride on the highway in cockpit view mode enjoying the environment. lol.gif

Actual cockpit view rather than hood/bonnet view would mean having to increase the detail of car interiors compared to GTA IV. That might be a resource tradeoff they're not willing to make because GTA always has potentially more detail than the hardware can handle and they have to decide what to sacrifice.

True, possibly in the next generation of consoles we will see it.

Nah. The high quality interior is an overhead, of course, but it's not a significant one. Ideally, it'd be nice to load high quality interiors for all vehicles in the scene, to make sure that they are ready if you decide to get into the vehicle, but it's overkill and probably isn't going to be noticeable anyhow. Just load the interior for the vehicle you are getting into as you are getting into it, and problem is solved. With there being only one interior loaded at a time, the overhead becomes insignificant.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

I would really enjoy a cockpit view; it adds so much to the immersion in my opinion. I would love to use the right stick to look around my car and see my passengers, mirrors, etc.

So, dashboard pop in when you get in a car. I'd like to think that wouldn't be noticeable but it would probably glitch a lot.

I'm happy with the hood view, but like GTA IV with taxis I'd like to see interiors of buses/coaches and limos.

Ideally, it should load during the getting-in animation and switch at the same time the view switches. The view switch will prevent you from noticing the detail of interior switching.

However, if something lags and it doesn't load in time, yes, you'll get a pop-in. A relatively mild one, since you'd have the low detail interior in place. Since I don't think it'd happen often, I think it's acceptable.

Besides it's not like other stuff dosn't get pop-ins.

I'd like to think an actual first person driving view has a good possibility of happening this time after they cock teased us with IV's second trailer. For those that don't remember:

Plus it'd be really nice to see this view on bikes so you can get a better sense of leaning into curves and turns and just overall more precise driving.

Ahaaa yes! I was upset. I wonder how much power gta v will take out of the Ps3 and xbox..

I would really like that feature although I think it won't happen because of the resource issue. They will keep it like in IV which wasn't a bad solution.

If we want internal view, we might as well go all the way.

Well R* does things right, so if they were to do an internal view they would more than likely give you the same view you get being a passenger in a cab. In short a 360 view.

It would be, and could be animated the way it is now, the steering wheel doesn't move. That would save on memory. The internal view would be static.

I just kicked to the curb "Test Drive Unlimited 2" and it had a cockpit view and really I do not see the point in it. Some people suggested wiper blades and turn signals.

Let's not get carried away.

Nah. I think it would affect the driving in a bad way. You would lose the view on a lot of traffic surrounding you.

It would be optional and some people might actually like it better.

I won't even care if all the cars have the same cockpit and it looks crappy as hell, I just want it. Now.

If its going to be half assed, i see no point in adding this feature.

Midnight club LA, had amazing cockpits. Only second best toGran turismo 5 and its a 2008 game!

But i cannot see them putting that much level of detail inside of the cars for Gta V.

No, it could be an advantage. You drive straight ahead rite? You don't have to see your surroundings.

Try the view in GTA IV where the camera is at the front of your car, it actually is way better to drive cause you're at the right hight and you can evade cars more easily. Everything looks bigger now and distances are better to calculate or something. I really don't get why people don't want this optional. It's realistic and would add to the experience + it has a lot of advantages.

I've been wanting this since forever, I hope it finally makes it in. I don't think hardware resources have to be a problem. You'd only have to load the detailed interior for the car you're in and only if you're in cockpit viewmode. And it doesn't have to be Forza anyway.

It would really add to the experience and immersion. To the people who think it'll make driving harder, it only does at first because you're so used to the outside perspective. But once you get used to it it's much better.. it feels more like driving a car through a city instead of piloting an RC vehicle through a maze.

Excatly! Just imagine running over hundreds of people and seeing their reaction as you speed towards them in first person happy.gif

I dream of a world with GTA cockpit view.

Also would be nice if helicopters, planes etc had a target thing to aim guns with.
