SA only got 2 months of marketing, but it sold great and is the greatest selling game on Ps2 of all time, and that was back in 2004 when the internet was just starting to get popular, so yes it could defianiatly happen. Yes because all the previews, screenshots, print ads/posters/billboards which started to show up six months before its release isn't marketing? It's kind of funny how people consistently assume its first trailer started the marketing... I guess they're just speculating (fun fact: things that happened in the PAST you need not speculate about.... there's readily available documented evidence available online). and lol @ how the internet only really started to get popular in 2004... I bet you weren't aware that people were already sending emails and visiting websites in the early to mid 90s... and that gta fan sites were already getting seven digit unique visitors/month in 2002. When V was announced it just spread all over the internet in just a click. But you never know, I am looking more to a 2013 release though. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed it to April or May. Viral marketing has only just started, but it's "unofficial" marketing, as R* has yet to confirm it themselves. Marketing will begin with a first preview in September. A second trailer in September. More detailed previews in October. November is trailer 3. December is where all of the major previews will come in, like retail copies being available to journalists. Early January will be the Launch trailer. Finally, the game will release at the end of January or the very beginning of February. It's prime real estate, considering there's next to no competition in the beginning of every year. Yeah, I seem to recall a longer period of time when everybody was on the GTA-SA forums, talking about screenshots, the environment that had been revealed, the culture that was implied...it was a good long happy period of buildup to the game, and I had SA screenshots on my computer wallpaper for a what seemed like a long time (just like I did with RDR). It was a good time, not like now. If Rockstar marketing actually thinks this Epsilon tweeting bullsh*t is effective and useful marketing, they have their heads even further up their @sses than I thought. When the next beautiful GTAV trailer comes out, or a slew of good screenshots along with some decent contextual information about the game, I might have an "eseculation" but until then, I am not a happy camper, not since a couple months after the glow from the trailer wore off. Second - this has been discussed a lot and it just does not look like happening, they could it is not like it takes more than 2 months to get the cash together, or it is not like some of you will already have the cash set aside but it just doesn't happen, short marketing campaigns are usually short and dense. However I would say that GTA is one of very few franchises, possibly the only one, that could get away with such an action, but just cos they can does not mean they will. I would not hold my breath on tis one, I have long maintained may 2013 and i am sticking to that. If it comes out in october though I will be delighted, the sooner the better. True, but they didn't show anything really revealing until the first trailer was released, and yes, I know the internet was used in the 90s and that it was used a lot, but if you compare how many people use the internet now to back then it doesn't even compare. Also with San Andreas they released info and screens before the trailer, because it was a different time and you didn't get as much trailers for game because you didn't have youtube and gametrailers and everything.
