I really can't see R* starting serious marketing before October/November when they'll run out of Max Payne 3 stuff

It seem foolish not to.

 

MP3 has been out for a few months now; 2 month mark has been passed. The people who wanted to buy it, have already done so at this point. The rest either don't care for it, or have already made up their minds to buy it and are just waiting for a price drop w/e. The DLC they can only market to those who bought the base game, for obvious reasons. So marketing it as heavily as they have been now, isn't going to get them anywhere. They can switch to marketing GTA V as their "lead" and still talk about MP3. Those who are concerned with the DLC will listen and get it. But by marketing the DLC heavily until Oct/Nov...well they aren't really going to get anywhere because you need the base game to buy the DLC. I am not quite sure how to word this point, but I hope you guys get what I mean.

 

They can move on to marketing V heavily and still focus on MP3. If by Oct/Nov we are still in heavy MP3 marketing mode...I am worried.

You're correct. I don't think people realize that this can be done. I personally believe that the consolidation of the DLC's into three packs shows that they have come to terms that MP3 has sold what it's going to sell. No point in dragging out the DLC's because people will lose interest. Package them into three large DLC's and people may be more inclined to purchase. Rockstar aren't going to focus solely on MP3 anymore.

They've done this before and they will. If they announced 2 screens while Max Payne 3 marketing was on a peak, why couldn't they give big info about V while DLC marketing is going on? it's not as important as a full game.

I don't know about you guys, but when a Rockstar employee links to a article on Eurogamer that is about GTA V Viral marketing, and he also names it GTA V viral marketing on the tweet...do you really need any kind of confirmation?

 

I agree with someone here that said that this viral marketing is cool, but it's a bit too late. But i still do enjoy it. But they could have been doing this stuff months ago too,unless....this is a leadup to a big update and a release soon, but thats very doubtful.

I agree, and why doubtful, they're attracting us hardcore fans with some "bait" so we start discussing and cracking their Epsilon riddles and whatnot, and they interact with us with Rockstar's own devs, so when they post news, they will attract us hardcore fans and the other non-casual gamers.

Well i said doubtful because if the predictions stay the same, a release in March is very possible and i find the chance of a March release more believeable than a 2012 release. 2012 sounds too good to be true if you ask me...and most of the time when something is too good to be true...it actually is.

Yeah i agree with that. It's really good to have that tweet from Felipe Busquets, he flat out calls it the GTA V viral marketing too, so finally something real indeed. I can't think of many other developers that starts marketing their games like this.

But I think it was at the same time they launched some trailer, I'm not sure. We're starting to enter the Rockstar dev tweeting hour, until 2am GMT I guess.

Anyway, the guy in San Andreas with the back pack is part of the cult. When I read that all I could think of was the part of the gtav trailer where they show the back packers standing in front of the mountain. If this is the first place rockstar starts with their viral marketing I think its going to show that this cult will play a very big part in gtav story line.
