You guys should know that this was already in 2004 on the website. I highly doubt that they already knew the outline for the map of V, 10 years later.

So was there anything noteworthy to come out of that screen saver aside from pretty concrete feelings that the scenes are in game locations and the possibility of EpsilonInsider being another ARG/Find The Blue/deepthroat type situation?

We got a kick ass preview of the updated lighting and reflection system and cloud cycles that are gorgeous...

As a test, I set my date forward by a month on my Windows PC and the Windows version played just fine.

Well somebody tried that a few pages back, on Mac, and it gives the message that it has expired anddoes not launch.

 

Also, I think Rockstar know what they are doing. They didn't spend 5 months making a screensaver that accidently expires next week - after promising new updates next week also. It's common sense I think...

It gives a message and doesn't launch because the screensaver was compiled with the software in trial mode. It's a protection so some company doesn't just use the trial version to create a screensaver to mass distribute. Since the software they used for Windows is free and doesn't have any sort of trials, the screensaver continues to work. Like I said, if Rockstar was going to make the screensaver expire, they would have done that in Flash. Looking around the Flash code, there's no "expire code" in it.

 

Further more, Rockstar took steps to ensure they could update the content in the screensaver remotely. They wouldn't have bothered with this if they had planned to make the screensaver expire.

 

They didn't spend 5 months creating it. After they knew internally they were going to face a delay, the screensaver was put on the back burner until marketing vamped up again. Kinda like the box art. They had it back in January but when they knew they were going to face a delay, they held off releasing it. That doesn't mean during the months between January and April they were working on it the entire time.

 

tl;dr: Some Flash designer forgot to check if the software was in trial mode and everyone is reading into it too much.

 

EDIT: Oh and this same exact thing happened to the band Muse a while back. They released a screensaver using the same exact software Rockstar is using and somehow trial mode got activated and made the screensavers expire. They had to release a new version to correct the issue.

Hahah, you know man..i've been much more absent from the forum compared to early this year and last year. Last year i pretty much had somewhat of an addiction to this forum, but i think a lot of people did . But after the news of the delay this year, i decided it was time to spend my time on other things. Among them...playing a lot of awesome new and old games. But you know how it is..one can only stay away from GTA related stuff for so long. Soon i started playing GTA IV again and then you start to look forward to GTA V news again. And luckily, updates seem to be happening again. The wait for the game itself though isn't hard at all anymore, which is good.

Not really, except for that 29th is of course GTA IV's release date If i were ya'll i'd just take it easy and with a grain of salt and not expect anything big next week. We all know about disappointments...let's chill
