I sure hope so, but who the hell knows. Nevertheless, the thought of the marketing campaign ramping up gives me a chubby. I hope its an Epsilon inspired scavenger hunt. You get an email from them with the standard Epsilon gibberish, but cleverly hidden inside are clues to a real location in the world. Maybe you go to said location and find Epsilon pamphlets placed by one of R* cronies. Upon opening it you discover the next set of clues. just a cool thought I had.

As a test, I set my date forward by a month on my Windows PC and the Windows version played just fine.

Well somebody tried that a few pages back, on Mac, and it gives the message that it has expired anddoes not launch.

 

Also, I think Rockstar know what they are doing. They didn't spend 5 months making a screensaver that accidently expires next week - after promising new updates next week also. It's common sense I think...

It gives a message and doesn't launch because the screensaver was compiled with the software in trial mode. It's a protection so some company doesn't just use the trial version to create a screensaver to mass distribute. Since the software they used for Windows is free and doesn't have any sort of trials, the screensaver continues to work. Like I said, if Rockstar was going to make the screensaver expire, they would have done that in Flash. Looking around the Flash code, there's no "expire code" in it.

 

Further more, Rockstar took steps to ensure they could update the content in the screensaver remotely. They wouldn't have bothered with this if they had planned to make the screensaver expire.

 

They didn't spend 5 months creating it. After they knew internally they were going to face a delay, the screensaver was put on the back burner until marketing vamped up again. Kinda like the box art. They had it back in January but when they knew they were going to face a delay, they held off releasing it. That doesn't mean during the months between January and April they were working on it the entire time.

 

tl;dr: Some Flash designer forgot to check if the software was in trial mode and everyone is reading into it too much.

 

EDIT: Oh and this same exact thing happened to the band Muse a while back. They released a screensaver using the same exact software Rockstar is using and somehow trial mode got activated and made the screensavers expire. They had to release a new version to correct the issue.

I might snap a picture on my iFruit phone to aid you in your quest. I just installed the Instamatic app that allows me to add filters and share it with my friends.

Well, now we know that the moon rises and sets fairly realistically and has phases, and that the clouds do move and change shape as we've seen in the trailers. Just little tidbits about the environmental effects of the game as demonstrated by the time cycle going by in the screensaver.

Ahh ya that too. Also the fluids/water/particles(?) system looks pretty improved. Kind of just grouped that all into the location point I originally mentioned but ya that all looks pretty nice.
