Iminicus
Golds per capita/medals per capita. Pretty sure NZ would be at the top of that table. johnny_zoo
Oh God they've just gave Bolt one of those horrid stuffed mascots: OK how do you download videos and imbed them as gifs here Ive been wondering how to do that. Also I want to download the 100m videos from BBC sports website how can one go about doing this. I can think of a screen recorder but those cost money any way to get it free. I tried 'save target as' but it doesnt allow you to do it. I cant get the URL so Keepvid is out. Anyone have any ideas? Robinski
Jason Kenny just took his second gold of the games with the cycling Men's Individual Sprint. If the Team GB Cycling track team were a nation, they'd be 10th on the medal table. 5 Golds and 1 Bronze. In other news, many track cycling events make no sense until you hear explanations for them. The women's points race (in the omnium) was a complete clusterf*ck where I had no idea what was going on until the last 30 of 80 laps, and in the sprint I couldn't figure out why they were intentionally going slow. Not to mention that that race is 1000m but only the last 200m is timed. It all makes sense once it's cleared up, but it's not intuitive at all. Robinski
GB Women's hockey team are through to the semis despite losing their match against the Netherlands. Something like that normally wouldn't warrant me posting, but the GB team was featuring the biggest Olympic badass in the form of captain Kate Walsh. She took a particularly powerful hockey stick strike to the face in their opening game which shattered her jaw, went off to get it all plated up and came back to playing today. The only sign that it happened is a pretty gnarly scar on her cheek. El Dildo
hey. remember that guy who ran the 400 with no legs? Oscar Pistorius? yeah so after his first qualifying he finished dead last in the semifinal. he never had a chance. and people are like "OMG WHAT A HERO, WHAT AN INSPIRATION." am I the only one who think it's absurd? he's not a hero, it's not an inspiration, it's kind of embarrassing. he never should have been here. I still can't figure out why exactly he was allowed to compete. I know he achieved the Olympic "A" qualifying time at the world championships, but what difference does that make? he's still a double-amputee. we have an Olympics for people like him so that he can run against his peers. and maybe then he won't be utterly embarrassed in the semifinals by having his ass handed to him by the able-bodied athletes. I really hope they don't invite him back for 2016 and I really hope they squash this little experiment right now before other disabled athletes try to lobby for inclusion in the able-bodied games. /2 cents Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/518208-2012-olympics/page/9/#findComment-1061558087 Share on other sites
Doc Rikowski
Ok, let me get this straight... 8 Badminton players have been expelled from the games for not trying to win their games in order to choose which opponents they would face in the next round. Spain basketball team decides to lose against Brazil in order to avoid USA in the semi-finals and nothing happens? Why the double standard? Note: the Spanish sport press (Marca) even publicly requested a loss against Brazil and made an online poll asking to its readers to vote on the subject. Obviously the majority voted for a loss. I'm sure karma will fix this. --- About Pistorius: he did qualify for the semi-finals so he did beat many people with both legs to be there. How about their embarrassment? El Dildo
that's fine that he could beat able-bodied people. he could beat me, I'm sure, and I have 2 legs. he's still a pro athlete. but obviously he doesn't belong at the highest level at the Olympics. he came in dead-last in the semifinal. it's nice that he's persevering against the odds and all, but it's just stupid to think that you accomplished anything by participating in an event that you have NO CHANCE of winning. just stick to the Paralympics. no one will think any less of you. Iminicus
I want to tell a story about referees, well, a couple. In the 2007 Semi Final in Wales, France was against the All Blacks. Now, we all know the score. What you probably don't know is the whining that occurred afterwards. After France won, New Zealand cried like the little bitch I know she is. The thing is though, they blamed the referee, the person trying their hardest to make the game fair. Yes, on TV we can see their mistakes but to the ref on the day, things will be missed. Instead of blaming the ref, ( which NZ did until they beat France in 2011 for the RWC ), the teams should focus on what they did right and what they did wrong. The people should just be all like 'Our team played their best, next time we will get it' Does it suck your team lost? Hell yes, but what will 4 years of whining do? f*ckING NOTHING! On Saturday night NZ time, the Waikato Chiefs played The Sharks from South Africa for the Investec Rugby Championship. All on twitter, South Africans were crying about the ref. Especially, since they were losing. But crying about the ref didn't help them. They still lost. WHy they lost is cause the players didn't have the heart. There are many cases of both these countries whining about the refs and many cases of England, Australia, America etc. And that doesn't solve f*cking anything. In fact, it distracts from what the players accomplished. The Chiefs won for the first time and the Sharks played a good game. Canada might have lost but f*ck it was against the strongest American side in years, which is an accomplishment for Canada to get there. So, lets congratulate the Canadian team for a well fought game. And leave the ref alone, they are after all only f*ckING HUMAN! /end rant. BondTrader
I don't know... the Olympics seem very corrupt at times, but I'm not gonna make any formal accusations. A Goal-keep delay is supposed to be eight-seconds right? Apparently that was six, plus the fact it's supposed to be a yellow-card and not an inside the box free-kick; at least as far as I remember that's the rule. Now, speaking of questionable moments, the Federer defeat seems fishy to me. Murray did play well but in Grand Slams he can't get past the Semis against Nadal, Djoko or Federer and he was able to go 3-0 on Federer? I mean, of course the crowd must have helped out but I'm not convinced a 3-0 victory by Murray on Federer is completely legitimate. No offence to the British but it's hard to believe due to the fact it was in his home soil. The Killa
Canada deserved to win that game, and they should have. I hope Canada appeals this because that Danish referee is an incompetent piece of sh*t. No they didn't. They fought hard but if they deserved to win then they would have scored 5 goals, or should have not made so many defensive errors as well. Also, the referee was poor but there was definitely no pro-US conspiracy. There were so many times Tancredi (Canada) should have been sent off, among others that didn't get called. An indirect freekick in the box for time wasting was an interesting one too... So because he has no legs and finished last in the semi-finals, he doesn't deserve to race in the Olympics, which he qualified for, I might add. It's not like he just showed up, the IOC said, "Why not?" and they let him race. So what you're saying is that everyone that finishes last in a semi-final has no chance of winning, and therefore shouldn't even try. Nah Tso Gud
Golds per capita/medals per capita. please tell me this is your attempt at making a bad joke Huh? It's a perfectly valid measurement of how a country does at making great athletes out of its population. With a higher population you've statistically got a better chance of having naturally gifted people. The fact that it puts GB way on top is purely coincidence Sort of, you have to remember things like the fact that many residents of countries, especially a melting pot like America wouldn't even compete for the nation that they currently reside in. Someone just won a medal in hurdles today, he was born and raised in the USA, and still competed under another nation.
