2012 Olympics

Recommended Posts

Anyone else watching the openIng ceremony? Wasn't expecting much but I think it's been pretty damn good.

Now, on to sporting matters. Really looking forward to the men's basketball, running events and boxing the most. May watch the cycling where I reckon we can get gold and gymnastics kinda tickles my fancy. Oh and not forgetting the most important event, women's beach volleyball as mentioned by Gareth.

Well in my opinion it beat the sh*t out of the Chinese one! Little bit Anarchic but what would one expect from Danny Boyle! Not so keen on the NHS section (all dancing but no singing....) the musical numbers were great apart from the bit which featured Muse! But that's just my opinion!

I'll be watching swimming. On April 30th we (Norway) lost a great swimmer, Alexander Dale Oen. He was a very good swimmer and would be able to do it very well in the olympics. sad.gif

The opening is pretty massive, I like it biggrin.gif

Apparently, there's going to be a false flag attack after the Olympics, and London will be evacuated. Either a terrorist attack or a faked UFO attack. There's already SAMs and missiles being set up on rooftops. And also apparently, a lot of people are going to die to sell the whole thing.

I don't know if any of this is true as it has yet to happen, but a lot of evidence suggests something bad is going to happen. So just to be safe, I'd say get the hell out of there if you live in London. Better safe than sorry.

Don't be f*cking stupid. If you don't have anything relevant to post then f*ck off.

E: The SAM sites have been set up on flats as a precaution against a potential terrorist attack. They were made public knowledge AMD have been there since March/April. In what way would a "False Flag" attack benefit the UK? Think things through before you post them.

Be interesting to get an international perspective on this, but everyone in the UK (myself included) think this has been a f*cking good opening ceremony.

Had humour and creativity, was miles better than Beijing, which bored most people.

What are all the other countries saying about it?

I thought that maybe, just once, we could do something "British" and just leave Paul McCartney's invitation in the postbag. Then that little f*cker sneaks in at the eleventh hour to sing a song that we've all heard a million times thanks to him having nothing to otherwise fill his days.

We get it Paul. You were in The Beatles. Now f*ck off.

Otherwise fantastic.

What a fantastic opening ceremony - prefered beijin's fireworks as ours were just thrown up willy nilly in the space of a minute but overall as a ceremony it was fantastic, I say better than Beijing.

2 complaints - no doctor who, and the queen should have actually parachuted in theta would have made me cheer, but overall FANTASTIC

@robinski ha, made me laugh, I would have prefered another arctic monkeys song or maybe muse but well McCartney was inevitable unfortunately.

I share the sentiment about Paul Macartney. Really enjoyed the ending with the petals making the Olympic Bowl (I don't know the correct term). A tad annoyed that Beckham didn't play a bigger part but what can you do.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed by the Opening Ceremonies. The copper petals that formed the cauldron were pretty sweet. My only complaint was no Coldplay sad.gif

I got to tour the Olympics Stadium two years while I was in the UK. Was amazing to see how much it's changed.

I was working, but managed to hear the fireworks! Also did nobody see the irony in 'youths' lighting the cauldron...reminds me of Hackney on a Friday night. The bits of the ceremony I did manage to catch I thought they were really well made. Then again it was Danny Boyle and if you didn't have faith in the man then that's probably because your a Commie.

I'm a bit annoyed Redgrave didn't light the 'petals'. I did like the idea that it's our youth, our Olympic future etc who get the honour, with everything it represents. It just peeved me a little that it wasn't someone I'll remember tomorrow morning. The bookies made a killing off that. No one wins!

Otherwise, fantastic! Everything British was there. The Queen, Queen, James Bond, JK Rowling, Volodmort blow up things, The NHS, Our kids, our music, our fashion, our dance moves..MR BEAN, who was easily my favourite appearance. Not expected at all.

The fireworks were crazy, the lights next to the seats were fantastic, the hills and countryside, the sheep, the factories, the middle class, the industrial revolution, War, respect, weather reports and, of course, the shipping forecast.

Well, for the guy who asked for an international perspective, I enjoyed it. Overall I always find these ceremonies tedious but this was less tedious. Now, I'm going to agree with those who say Paul McCartney shouldn't have been the one to end the show- sure, the Beatles are as British as you can get, but f*cking Paul McCartney again?

FYI I dislike the Beatles Yes. I said it.

I also didn't like the Olympic torch in the middle of the stadium. I preferred the Beijing one and how it stuck out of the stadium.

Found it much more creative, although I compliment the roses as a representation of Britain.

And I gotta say (I know I'll get criticized for this) but I hated how some kids lit the Olympic cauldron, yes, they hold the Olympic future but the torch is supposed to be a passing from the past into the present, and although those kids are athletes who knows if they'll ever compete in the Olympics? Besides the fact that it wasn't only one torch that lit the cauldron, but around 8 since all kids had one. I think the Olympic torch is supposed to symbolize all the athletes from different nationalities as one. During the worldwide relay there is only one torch that is carried by thousands of people, and the fact that 8 torches were present at the time degrades all the time and effort people went through to keep that one torch lit for all those months.

Loved the opening ceremony. Will mostly watch swimming and track events. Wish I went while Sydney hosted. I'm only 2 hours away. sad.gif

I really enjoyed the opening ceremony last night (The Red Arrows, I.K.B and Rowan Atkinson were my favs). The only thing I don't understand is why did they choose the song "Hey Jude"? I would have gone for Queen's "We Are The Champions" personally.

Well they can still play it for the closing ceremony I guess. biggrin.gif

Ceremony was great, but there are some parts that made it felt it was dragged on especially the digital age theme.

I didn't catch the beginning, but I did saw the "queen" and Rowan was awesome!

I wished the Olympic flame would be it on top of the stadium so everyone can see it. It's place right in the center.

This may cause some viewing problems for audiences.

So I got back from work last night and thought I'd sit down and watch the opening ceremony, well BBC one only went and cancelled it and were showing Lord of the Rings, they had just got to Mordor here:

But then I saw lots of famous folk like Mr Bean and thought it can't be Lord of The Rings, but then....

You forgot the hill where they planted all the flags looked a lot like Bag End. But they left out Sauron with the famous children's book villains, but used f*cking Voldemort. [/LOTRGEEKRANT]

For a start, this isn't the appropriate place to be discussing a potential terrorist attack. Second of all, do you actually understand what a "false flag" attack/policy is? Apparently not so I will explain it for you. A false flag policy Is when the government of a particular nation, in this case the UK, stages an attack from another source in order to allow the justification for another policy i.e. an invasion of a foreign nation. A UFO attack would make no sense as that would imply we wanted to invade space. A terrorist attack would also make no sense since we are already involved in Afghanistan and the war on terror. Unless of course you were referring to the IRA. However, a British military occupation of Ireland would in no way benefit us so you "theory" is completely irrelevant.

Please take your conspiracy tosh elsewhere.

On topic, do all the boxing matches consist of 3 rounds or is it just the preliminary matches? Also, I had no idea that Handball was so cool. Those Macedonian chicks were bringing the pain to the GB team.

E: how come when I turn onto Beach Volleyball it's men!? Olympics freakin suck!
