Mr Rabbit
Thanks for informing me of why french is spoken first I hate being too negative, so I will say I liked the John Lennon Imagine bit, the initial Freddie Mercury part, The Who and Muse but it was cancelled out by all the crap. At least Paul f*ckin'McCartney didn't make an appearance A-f*cking-men to that, as someone said on this thread "we get it Paul, you were in the beatles , now f*ck off." loved Muse's performance, was praying they were gonna show, sat through one direction, f*cking tinie tempah, taio cruz and even the spice girls, which I will admit had a good bit of nostalgia about it but still, and when I saw the back of matt Bellamy's head I was like "oh yes, please" wish they had done one of their classics but I suppose the song they used that will be on their new album was very very approrpriate (think it was the actual 'official song' so add another very) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/518208-2012-olympics/page/14/#findComment-1061577411 Share on other sites
AlexGTAGamer
The highlight for me was seeing Boris Johnson dnacing to the spice girls, he looked so silly I was in stitches Boris reminds me of one of those drunks you see on holiday at a disco, or on the town on a Friday night. Kippers
That was so god damn amazing. I sat on the couch every day and soaked it all in. I've forgotten what normal TV (and a social life) feels like. I'm going to miss this Olympics. Bravo London. Having said that, I have tickets for Paralympic athletics, so it's not over yet! I've forgotten what normal TV (and a social life) feels like.Same here, if I've been in the house, the Olympics has been on. Watched so many bizarre sports and got drawn in by even more. I couldn't tell you all the different events I've watched, there's just too many. Boris really does seem like a top guy. But how the f*ck he got elected to be mayor of a city I'll never know. Anyway, more Queen + Team GB! Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/518208-2012-olympics/page/14/#findComment-1061577485 Share on other sites

Iminicus
"It's not about the money, money", she sang on top of a convertible Bentley. Rolls Royce I'm liking the closing better than the opening. Though, what Russell Brand has to do with British Music is beyond me, I thought he was more a comedian. Gotta be honest, I'm watching one of the many replays and missed most of it. I did see Ed with Pink and I loved that. I think I might be a convert of his now. Iminicus
Am I the only one who prefers the Paralympics to the Olympics? I find the human stories there to be so much more emotional than the Olympics. DarrinPA
I Love the Olympics but I felt like I missed out on so much do to NBC televison. They showed full games of indoor volleyball, until the gold medal game which they showed the first set - then cut out all the other sets - after a commercial they jumped to Brazil about to win in just a few points. What happened to the game? It's not about the final score, it's about the competition [and checking out the hot olympians ] They didn't show The Who on NBC, they cut to a new TV show for an hour, and now an hour of the nightly news. I hope they show it afterwords. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/518208-2012-olympics/page/14/#findComment-1061577855 Share on other sites

There's the main channel, BBC One which only shows the Olympics and the news while the Olympics are on. Then there's another one, BBC Three, which again pretty much only shows the Olympics while it's on. Those channels have commentators and stuff. There was also 24 Olympic channels that covered every single event with no commentary or cutting away to other events. All in HD. JoeyLeone25
The Opening Ceremony was a well choreographed ride through British history directed by one of the great British directors of the post-modern era. The Closing Ceremony was a pointless combination of singing and dancing made by, well, a bloody choreographer. It was ok, but I didn't understand why they couldn't integrate more of British culture into it or at least dedicate a portion of the show to Brtain's sporting heritage. Aside from that, fantastic London 2012 Olympic Games. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/518208-2012-olympics/page/14/#findComment-1061579148 Share on other sites

It was ok, but I didn't understand why they couldn't integrate more of British culture into it or at least dedicate a portion of the show to Brtain's sporting heritage. Aside from that, fantastic London 2012 Olympic Games. That is exactly how I felt. I saw the opening ceremony in a bar whilst on holiday and there were no noise as there was loud music playing in the background, and I understood what was going on and I enjoyed it even though there were no sound. I watched about half an hour of the closing ceremony and got bored, I thought it was sh*t. I didn't like many of the acts/artists and I thought Jessie J was a bag of crap, as usual. Robinski
I think the closing ceremony was supposed to be more of a straight up party, and after the amount of Britishness in the opening i can't say I blame them for toning it down. The Opening was a massive and impressive spectacle, where the Closing was just a bit of lighter fun. Oh my god, that's so f*cking stupid. Who wants to wait until midnight to watch five seconds of the Who? Once again, f*ck you NBC. You f*cking ruin everything. You guys really need to get NBC off Olympic contracts. I can kind of understand cutting down a delayed broadcast of something like this (although obviously I'd prefer it didn't happen), but with something like the Olympics that they've deidcated nearly half a month's worth of programming to you might as well show the full thing. I can't even comprehend how they had the balls to stop just before the end of something so prestigious to try and hock some terrible little sitcom. That was crazy. Anyway I'm always interested in what edits happen to stuff like this, and I found this blog post. Someone's compiled the setlist for the entire ceremony and highlighted what NBC cut: You guys missed some great stuff: the final medal ceremony (men's marathon), Muse, Darcey Bussel + the Royal Ballet, and more Emeli Sande to be specific. darthYENIK
Yeah, it felt kind of felt like they took the easy way out. I mean, no other country can bring out all that musical fire power, and ignore the most active native acts still out their from the past. Of course I'm talking about heavy f*cking metal. Where was Deep Purple? Where was Judas Priest? And where was Iron Maiden? And where was Black Sabbath? They're all touring. Not to say the rest was bad, just it felt like a softball thrown for an easy homerun. Anyway. NBC completely cut out Muse, Ray Davies, and Kate Bush. Not that I was excited to see Kate Bush, but the other two I wanted to see. (thanks, Iminicus, for the link to video of the BBC broadcast) And apparently NBC considers this year's tape delayed Olympic coverage a success. You know, the same way a rapist considers rape a success. I'm just glad it's over, so I can go back to only watching an hour of NBC a week(30 Rock and Community), tops. Edit: yeah, Robinski. I really wish the American people could somehow get the Olympics out of NBC's hands. They don't understand the cultural responsibility that they hold. They treat the Olympics like a ratings feast, that they stuff their fat greedy faces off of every other year, to the dismay of the American public who is held hostage. And then they talk about the ratings success of it, like the American public has a choice not to watch the most important sports event of the year. It really does feel like rape. Doc Rikowski
Cutting The Who?!?! Blasphemy! And the Marathon winners ceremony... The most symbolical race of all the Olympics! I wonder what would have happened if there was an American on the podium... --- Anyway, latest news: Belarus shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk stripped of gold for doping I watched that final and while watching I was thinking that there was something fishy. First of all she looked like a man. Not like a not so beautiful woman, but like a man! Secondly all her throws were very good and seemed effortless (no shouting, no sign of fatigue while throwing). Her physique also seemed weak compared to the other top throwers (despite the fact she looked like a man ). On the other hand NZ's Valerie Adams, gold medal in 2008 and a proven champ + a 6 ft 5 in (1.97m) strong woman, was struggling to keep up. Same the other two in the top positions. I knew something was wrong in that final. It just didn't look right. Glad justice has been done. EDIT: Valerie Adams is getting her own gold ceremony now. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/artic...jectid=10826799 Edited August 13, 2012 by docrikowski Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/518208-2012-olympics/page/14/#findComment-1061580437 Share on other sites
A J
Good to see justice being served like that. I know exactly the woman / beast you are talking about, whilst watching it my girlfriend was telling me, that's who my next girlfriend will look like And she did seem completely effortless when throwing, and almost emotionless too. f*ck drug cheats, ban for life should be opposed on them (if it's a clear-cut case of cheating) It's interesting to read how the Olympics is viewed in different countries, here it was 24/7 coverage, Olympics this and Olympics that, difficult to escape the overzealous hype of it, but it was good to see the Country as a whole come together, and even a non patriotic - non fan of athletics, I was at times yelling at my tv screen to run faster etc... Well, Sarajevo went through a war in the 90s so it's understandable but overall the abandoning of Olympic venues is a common problem in many countries. It's really a waste of money and energy. Cities should build the venues already with a project for the utilization of the venue after the games are completed.
