Gta IV & Saints Row

I could do without all the saints row hate. If that's possible ph34r.gif

The thing I really like about saints row 2/3 is how they never back down, never give up and never say die.

It might sound crazy to some people but I was really motivated and inspired by saints row 3 in a way I never thought possible.

It made me think about my own life and how I take it too seriously. It made me think about how I can make my own life better. If I just have the balls to take some risks.

The main message I got from gta iv is that most people ARE selfish buggers and that life's "sh*t" as niko put it

Don't get me wrong it's only a video game. Just like movies all video games are different and I love gta iv. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say it's one of my favorite games of all time BECAUSE of it's dark story

However..... It can't be all bad..... Their needs to be good times.

I think gta iv, rdr ending where perfect I wouldn't change anything.

But why do the protags have to "cry" and "bitch" about how they hate their lifes, killing people ect. Once again that stuff needs to be said it has a place in the game but it shouldn't be the focus

Gta NEEDS to MIX gta iv with saints row 3 imo. Make it over the top but realistic. Tell a powerfull and moving story.

However DON'T have a protag who complains all the damn time. Their needs to be fun times, sad times, funny times.

There are funny times in GTA:IV.. well there are funny people.. Although i do agree, most of the time in GTA:IV Niko's story was a bit of a downer.. but thats the harsh reality.

i think i chuckled about one or two times while playing Saints Row 3. That sort of "over the top" comedy doesn't appeal to me. IV had some pretty funny moments.

Oh man. I agree with you, which may be putting myself in the flame target area as well, but this is like someone going onto a westboro baptist church forum and calling jesus christ a fag. You have been warned.

But yeah, I do agree with you. If real life is really as bleak and depressing as everyone says it is, then why do amusement parks, stand up comedy, the demolition derby motorsport, disney, and freespace 2 exist? Yes, I just used freespace 2 as an example of why reality isn't so horrible. It's that damn good.

Real life is not nearly as horrible as people make it out to be. If it was, we'd all have killed ourselves long ago. Come to think of it, if all movies conformed to the serious standard we wouldn't have films like judge dredd, true lies, commando, or a lot of james bond films. Life is only sh*t because you make it sh*t. If your life is sh*t, that's your fault buddy. Don't bring the rest of us down with you.

I would Like for Some of Saints Row Features to be in GTA. I like the Car customization . I like the Clothes customizations. Weapon attachment features. I like the Character feature customization, like Hair, Beard, ear rings, tattoos, etc. Robbing peds and stores. I liked getting in my My Justice on 24 and riding to the mall while smoking a blunt. So GTA could use some of the feature.

Somebody on here made the comparison that GTA is like a Martin Scorsese film and SR is like a Michael Bay film. One is made for fun, in your face action, and the other is for deep, thoughtful storytelling. The don't need to mix. (Don't know the guys username that said this, but I totally agree with it.)

Yeah, I also thought Niko was a bit of a whiny bitch.

Tommy Vercetti was a pure emotionless, psychopathic bad ass! My most preferred so far.

On the other hand they don't need to not mix either. I mean, anyone remember the original star wars movies or the dark knight batman movie? Those had some dark turns and yet they still had in your face action.

i just finished maxpayne 3 on pc and i irl laughed out loud on alot of occasions good story nice ending and great game. the protag was a f*cking downer as always but sh*t still made me laugh.

if we will get something of a mix of mp3 gtaiv and gta SA id be very happy.

i`ve only ever played a touch of sr3 and was always of the impression of a little to much comic and circus action just my own opinioon tho

R* always seem to hit the nail perfectly on the head imho im sure the right amount opf everything will be there. (no homo to R* btw)

ok first of all, i hope u arent a 12 or 15 years old kid, because you shouldnt, whatch a game and reflex about your life

specially if its a killing and gory game, you should just follow the protagonist story and reflex about HIS life while playing. Once you stop playing. his life its in pause and yours in continue.

Thats what a mature gamer does, of course im talking about serious story-driving games, like Heavy Rain, LA noire, even GTA IV story its a little bit serious.

BUT dont compare that ridiculous over the top sh*t called saints row.

the moment i bought the game and finished that horrible airplane mission i whas disgusted.

Of how ridiculous that game whas, im a mature gamer. I only play serious business games, not all the time tough, but i love games with good story

thats why i think Metal Gear Solid its one of the best franchises ever, and im a big fan of GTA since GTA IV. because it whas a serious and realistic history

i could just keep going... but!

On topic: DONT COMPARE GTA MASTERPIECE, TO THAT PIECE OF sh*t CALLED SAINTS ROW.

gta has become more famous because of his quality and realistic experience.

now tell me. Saints row has became uber famous like gta? NO

why? Simple: LOW QUALITY GAME, GTA? :EXTREME QUALITY GAME.

DONT EVEN TRY TO MIX IT because gta its nothing like saints row, saints row its ridiculous gta its realistic.

sorry if i spelled something wrong, im not from the states ;D

What I want is a perfect blend, I feel Saints Row 3 went too far with the over-the-top bullsh*t, and GTA IV went too far with the serious "life's crap, everythings crap" thing.

Saints Row 2 I thought was brilliant, there were some very serious moments, and there were some very silly moments, but the majority of it was right in the middle. You still felt you were a gangsta, an underdog (except for nearer to the end). Saints Row 3 was a pile of crap, "Gangstas in Space"?! "Trouble with Clones" wtf was that?!

Anyway, I could do without the customisation of the character. It needs to be about the same as CJ, if a little less. In Saints Row I never feel connected to my character, whereas with Niko you almost started feeling sorry for poor bastard.

I know what you mean GTA is my favorite out of the two but i play Saints Row for the things that gta does not give me. To say that there are certain features that GTA couldnt incorporate is absurd. I read these forums and some of the things in the wishlist are things that Saints Row have. I would love if GTA incorporated all the features from the previous gta and some of the features from Saints Row as I mention above . I would love if gta had a simple mall. lol

Honestly I thought the serious moments in SR2 were corny IMO. Like when Carlos dies . I understand what they were trying to achieve, but I had to laugh because of how out of place it felt.

Frankly none of the characters in the Saints Row games inspire me to care about them if they die or whatever. The storytelling certainly isn'my cup of tea.

As for Niko what makes him my favourite protagonist is his jaded view on everything. He can be funny when he needs to be, but ultimately is a realist.

I've grown out of 1 dimensional protagonists who think with their guns. Does it hurt to have someone who displays a range emotions rather than the stereotypical "I'm a bad ass" meathead?

CJ by far was the most annoying; he whined the most and had no clear goals. Sure, Niko was questioning a lot of people, but mostly because the jobs were complete jokes (going on a date with that gay guy, going to the internet cafe), and they didn't pay well enough and were distractions from finding Darko.

As for GTA IV's story. I thought it had plenty of chuckle-worthy moments, mainly because it was down-to-earth conversations and people with eccentric personalities (i.e. Packie, Brucie, Roman, etc.). Most of the characters were true to themselves and didn't take their development into unexpected territories.

Life is only sh*t because you make it sh*t. If your life is sh*t, that's your fault buddy. Don't bring the rest of us down with you.

Empathy is sorely lacking in this world. Maybe you'll learn the value of it when you endure the same kind of struggles you flippantly disregard and claim people have brought upon themselves.

This is the beauty of entertainment in general and gaming that goes beyond the superficial gloss of mere spectacle, it gives us an opportunity to gain some insight and understanding into the human condition.

IMO that is why i prefer a game like GTA IV because at its core it has something of meaning and weight to say yet is always balanced with the moments of levity and paradoy sprinkled throughout.

Saints row is skewed in the complete opposite. Sure a few basic game mechanics elements and customisation is welcome but as a whole i would prefer the integrity of the GTA franchise to remain intact and does perfectly fine without the influence of saints rows excessive yet ultimately vapid approach.

I think what IV was trying to convey is ultimately it doesn't pay to live a criminal lifestyle which is the common theme in most gangster films since the protagonist usually receives a horrible fate. However I do agree they tried too hard to make Niko the sympathetic good guy which was a mistake since no GTA protagonist is a good guy, an anti hero would be a better title for them.

From the tone of the narrator in the GTAV trailer he seems like he'll be a complete 180 from Niko, he didn't seem the least bit upset about his american dream not coming true almost like he was looking for an excuse to commit crimes again and whatever "you know how it is" was became the small push he needed to come out of a very short retirement.

GTA doesn't have deep thoughtful storytelling nor is it realistic.

Saint's Row 3 is a nice game but it's corny. It always tries way too hard. GTA needs to learn nothing from that.

And what's wrong with reflecting on a game? What you don't think about what you play or watch? You just consume? Okay, I guess.. makes my job easier, for one. Maybe if people reflected on the GTA stories they wouldn't be such assholes? Anyway I really like the stories in the IV series. I thought there were some genuinely touching moments and it's still funnier than Saint's Row. Comedy is always better when it's true.

So more of that with a little more of the old San Andreas vibe.

I agree with the story telling part GTA is King, but some of the features are things gta could use . the Clothing feature along is better in saints row 2 then GTA IV car customizations,Weapon Attachments,Tatoos, Store robberies Ped Robberies. Those are all features people want in GTA.

car customization in saint's row was pretty lame, imo. Most of the parts were ugly and didn't do anything. Rockstar already pretty much set the bar for customizing cars with midnight club. Indeed, most of the cars were ugly (poor design) and the handling was even worse. Saint's Row also features a lot of gameplay systems that are technically functional but don't do much for gameplay and the tendency to score and reward just about everything cheapens the whole thing further and makes it kind of exhausting to play. It's constantly forcing you to act like some ADD'd up monkey. Which is fun in short bursts and good of them to stop blatantly copying GTA and try to find their own groove, but it kills any immersion into the story or gameworld and emotional investment in the characters and that's what GTA tries to do.

GTA V don't need to be a mix between saints row 3 and GTA IV. GTA V need to be a mix between IV and San Andreas...

I didn't like the style of Saints Row... For me that game sounded like a serie that wants attention with a purple dildo in your hand. That's not the style of GTA. GTA talks about the REAL world of crime. I get what you mean... GTA needs more humor and funny times. Yeah the need, but why not in the GTA old style ? Needs to be saints row-ish humor..? That was vulgar. My opinion is: GTA V needs to be a mix between GTA Iv and San Andreas

It's always gonna be a matter of taste. And people forget that GTA, even though it's set in the US, is a quintessentially British game. In a sense the game isn't even about the US so much, but about how Europeans see America. It's every stereotype about the US and it's people rolled into one. I think that's why to American's there's always something they can't quite get their finger behind and makes a little magic. And why it's taken as more serious comment. But that's also the difference between American and European sense of humor, Americans are about the punchline and there's winners and losers, European humor is more biting, tragic, sarcastic and sillier at the same time. Generally everybody loses and blessed are the dumb. I'm not saying either is better, I enjoy them both, but GTA is just very, very British in it's comedy, world view..everything but the actual setting.

For me GTA IV was a great serious movie, and sr3 was a bad acted comedy.

Kind of like Goodfellas compared to Meet The Spartans huh?

I can see some points. I myself do like the SR games, its fun over the top gaming.

I want to point out that if you take the protags and story out of the mix, I wouldn't mind seeing some stuff from SR put into GTA. I think that is what most people are saying in this thread that do not like SR. They keep going back to saying the story was this or that or the characters were unrealistic, that is fine we understand that.

I wouldn't mind some of the mechanics of SR to be in a GTA game though. Not all of it, that is for sure, keep the games going in the direction of where they are going. I just wouldn't mind some things spilling over to each other. I like some of the weapons and skills involved with those weapons in SR and I like some of the activities in SR compared to GTA. I am sorry but insurance fraud in SR is a lot of fun to me.
